There are fantastic discounts available on the E if someone wants to go for it now.
Can you please PM me or mention here the discounts on the E and also what deal did you get for your C250 d ? Thanks in advance.

- Globally, BMW lost the top spot to Mercedes for the first time in over a decade.
- Indian sales contributed to less than 1% of the total global sales of each of the German 3. In the case of BMW, it is less than 0.4%.
- 434,583 of JLR sales is Land Rover and 148,730 is Jaguar. Thus almost 75% of JLR sales is contributed by Land Rover.
- For the first time in 54 years, the top selling car model in Sweden is not a Volvo. It is VW Golf.

- China continued to be the biggest market for luxury carmakers, with Audi as the top player.
- Even though China's economy is only 5 times as big as India's, each of the German 3 sells almost 50 times as many cars in China than in India.
- Top selling luxury brand in the US is BMW and is closely follwed by Mercedes. Audi is far behind.

Top-selling luxury car 'brand' in the US is actually Mercedes-Benz. They have a slender lead over Lexus while BMW comes third.

Mercedes-Benz: 340,237
Lexus: 331,228
BMW: 313,174

BMW Group (including Mini) sold more cars than the Mercedes Group (including Smart) though.

Surprise of 2016, Audi loses number 2 spot to BMW in India.

The slide for Audi continues in 2017, (January-March) of this year as numbers slipped by 22% year-on-year. Its volumes fell to 2,131 units as against 2,738 units in the same period last year,

Looks like the new X1 has revived BMWs sales. Any idea of model wise break up? The launch of new 5 series should further consolidate their position this year.

Definitely this is a bump due to the new X1 which is better than its rivals on most parameters. Audi cars like Q3 are awaiting upgrades and things may remain similar for this year.

The A4 contributed good numbers to Audi in the past. The new A4 TDI took a while coming and the 1.4 TFSI is a joke. Also some models like the Q5 were taken off for a while due to dieselgate. Despite these setbacks I am surprised its such a close fight between BMW and Audi!

Actually both BMW and Audi are not in the fight at all if you look at the numbers from Mercedes – I think launching new models without much delay (after the international launch) is working very well for Mercedes. BMW looks to be on the path of revival, but I don’t see much going for Audi – their new models maybe brimming with technology, but from a design point of view it’s as fresh as yesterday’s newspaper.

would not write off Audi yet. Their latest cars come with the latest features where BMW lags. Also they have seem to have improved the A4 gearbox by replacing that CVT. They need to update the interiors of Q3 with the latest designs and they will be back on track. The new Q5 is coming and only the Q3 remains to be updated

re: Mercedes, BMW & Audi sales figures in India

I test drove the A4 1.4 TFSI - The engine was clearly lacking and was seriously out of breath very quickly. The engine also sounded very rough. And to top it is priced like a joke.

I also drove the A4 TDI - It is fast, but not furiously fast like the C250d (I've been spoilt by the 500 NM torque). The gear shifts were smooth, and the engine didn't run out of breath.

The interiors were good, but the sound quality was underwhelming. Overall, not a great package for drivers. (some reviews give A4 the crown in comparo for being jack of all trades. I however, wouldn't. It is not great at anything except for the fancy instrument cluster). I'd rather pick BMW for value (after good discounts) or the C250d. (Merc has its own set of problems, but once you get in, it gives a generous dose of luxury like no other). If I am back in market, I'll buy the BMW.

BMW India Grows 8% in 2017, looks they are improving though the gap has increased due to an overall increase in this segment. Also confirmed CKD production of 6 Series GT.

It sold 3,533 units between January and May this year, after registering 14% growth in 2016, with sales of 7,800 units.

BMW will be adding the new 6 Series Gran Turismo to its locally manufactured products in 2018.

Considering that 6 Series goes in for local production, BMW should price it right.

If done well, E Class has two challenges at its hand. The driver oriented 5 Series and the 6 Series offering rear seat luxuries.

Not sure how MB would take that up. With the LWB being manufactured in India, it is a long time and high volume commitment for MB. They cannot afford to loose the fight in this segment.

Re: Mercedes, BMW & Audi sales figures in India

This just in from Mercedes:

Quote:
- The best ever June with 40% higher sales than June 2016

- A record 3521 units sold in Q2 2017, which is a strong 18% y-o-y growth as compared to the same period last year

- A record 7171 units sold in Jan-July 2017 period, which is a 8.7% growth compared to Jan-July sales 2016

- The E-Class remains the highest single selling model in Jan-June 2017 period with exceptional demand for the long wheelbase E-Class | The C-Class remained the second highest selling model in the entire portfolio

- The GLC remained the highest selling SUV in Jan-June 2017 followed by the GLE

- The growth in the SUV segment was highest with 31% increase in sales compared to Jan-June 2016

The looks (sedan v/s notchback), the detailing and reclining feature of the rear seats, coupled with slightly lower pricing (assumption) should see people still picking up the E Class LWB over the GT; along with the better brand image (look at their sales, even before the newer models were launched).

This is going to be a bit tricky for them. They have to price is close to the E 200/220 LWB if they want to make it a success. Putting a bigger engine and pricing it against the E350d at 70+ won't work.
However, this will create a problem within the portfolio as the 6 series GC and Coupe would be priced nearly double of the GT as they are CBU. They would need to relook at pricing of the 6 series coupe and granCoupe.

Audi has the most aged product line amongst all the germans. Their latest cars won't make it here until next year. The A4 is the only new generation launch which too hasn't faired well. They need to get the all new A6 in ASAP to gain volumed.
The Q7 and upcoming A8 won't bring in the numbers.
