Maruti Suzuki wins Company of the Year award for corporate excellence - ET

Quote:
Maruti got eight votes against five for its closest rival in the first round of voting. In the second, the jury was unanimous.

The jury said: “Maruti outpaced its rivals in terms of profitability. It had a market share of about 50% in 2003.
Quote:
For Maruti, the opportunity has never looked as bright. India’s vehicle penetration — at 28 four-wheelers per 1,000 people — is close to an inflection point if markets such as Japan, Korea, and China are any indication.

Re: Maruti to become bigger than Suzuki's global operations

Suzuki’s India revenue revs past its home market.

The revenues include income from both two-wheeler and four-wheeler businesses of the multinational.

The biggest pie of the India business though comes from its car unit - Maruti Suzuki India.

Quote:
Its revenues from India rose to 1.3 trillion Yen (Rs 80,138 crore) during the financial year ended March 31, 2018 while that of revenues from Japan closed at 1.1 trillion Yen (Rs 68,494 crore).

Re: Maruti to become bigger than Suzuki's global operations

Suzuki's Operating profit i jumped 37% to 116.5 billion yen ($1 billion) for April-June, versus 85.1 billion yen a year earlier. Rides on Maruti to post record-high operating profit

The result was stronger than an average of 97.3 billion yen based on seven analyst estimates.

Overall sales in Asia, which comprise roughly 65% of global vehicles sales, rose 21% to 570,000 units. At home, they rose 8.5% to 173,000 units.

Quote:
Suzuki is on track to post record global vehicle sales of 3.3 million units for the year to March, but it is also anticipating a 9.1% slide in global operating profit, as it ramps up R&D spending to develop new technologies such as electric vehicles to defend its dominance in India.

India accounted for about 34% of the consolidated revenues of Suzuki Motor in FY18

Quote:
Given the high stakes for Suzuki Motor in India, the company is ramping up its capacity to maintain its current market share. Suzuki set up a new plant in Gujarat and plans to add new capacity of 15 lakh units a year in phases over the next couple of years

Re: Maruti to become bigger than Suzuki's global operations

If I were Suzuki and would have seen this news, I would have given one of the two reactions upon hearing it below:

1) Wow! Those are some good numbers and progress right there by the Indian Suzuki wing! Why not support it by adding some more mouth watering automobile offerings like the Swift Sport, Jimny or maybe atleast regulating the "Tin Can" build quality so the people of India feel safer.

OR

2) Wow! Those are some good numbers and progress right there by the Indian Suzuki wing! Pffff this shows Indians will buy our cars anyway. Let's get a little more greedy and milk them some more by allowing Maruti to continue cutting build quality corners along with witholding great cars from launching there.

By the way Suzuki has been giving India the step motherly treatment, we all know what they would choose from the above.

Why fix what ain’t broken? Suzuki will feel the heat only when people will understand and stop buying their featherlight cars in hoards.

Just recently, Maruti Suzuki share price has been battered down quite a bit. Their profitability has also suffered in the previous quarter. That led to reports that Suzuki will be ready to give other car manufacturers a huge fight in 2019-20.

Hence, to make them any better than what they are currently, Indians will have to stop giving in to the crap they are offering. Alas! It’s most definitely just wishful thinking from my side.

Re: Maruti to become bigger than Suzuki's global operations

With every edition the Maruti cars get lighter by at least 50-100 kgs despite growing in dimensions all round, now wonder it gives great mileage & performance. This boils down to a lack of power plants so they persist with the same engines for decades before giving something new. They don't have a proper automatic except in the Baleno CVT other's are either the head nodding AMT's or the old 4 speed torque converter automatics. All this despite India being their biggest market!

Let us demand Suzuki, we want global models. The Jimny, Vitara 4WD, Swift Sport, Global Wagon R, SX4 S-CROSS 1.6D.

Possibly only thread where numbers are there and SMARTCAT is not responding

On a serious note, If Maruti side is so significant to Suzuki wonder why it continues to sell thin metal cars and ignores safety. We do not get global models, once we get are low spec ones to stay within the price barrier. I am curious to know if their R&D spend in India in similar proportion to their operations.

Honestly, when Indians do not have any issue patronising cars with unstable body structure, why would Suzuki give a damn?

I see Team-BHP members gloating about high mileage in their cars. As long as buyers are happy with what Suzuki is offering, don't think Suzuki will spend a single cent in R&D for Indians.

For most Indians(not accounting the Enthusiasts in general) safety isn't the real priority when it comes to vehicular understanding. For the average Indian, cars are still considered a luxury in many parts of the country. They are OK with the Chalta Hain Attitude and since it is a luxury, price and mileage is on top of the checklist always. Huh, the joke I often see around? Parents who are over possessive about their kids safety in other situations simply forget the safety their kids deserve when being driven around in a car. Just the last week my friend came home with her toddler and her husband. The Husband was boasting of the safety rating his i20 has got. But when the time came for them to drive back home, my friend was sitting in front unbelted, with the toddler in her lap. The concerns I raised, simply fell into deaf ears and they laughed away before driving off.

Now, if this is the outlook or the hypocrisy if I may say among individuals, why won't big manufacturers "use" us as a herd to mint easy money? When we lack the basic understanding of the safety in our cars, making "tin cans" has simply been a way to have a flourishing business here. The moment Suzuki decides to make safer cars here and spend more money behind it, their cost of R&D, manufacturing and ownership goes up. They will lose customers and what is currently their cash cow is no longer going to fetch them enough milk.
