Re: Struggling in India, Toyota asks Daihatsu to help

Toyota Kirloskar will stick to its decision to manufacture mid-sized and compact cars rather than source them from its subsidiary Daihatsu.

I think Daihatsu can start with the Terios C-SUV as it's the most booming segment in India. However, the Terios actually looked like the Premier Rio which is not so proportional and felt taller and narrower.

Slap a "T" badge and customers will be happy to own one I guess. Hope they don't go the "premium" pricing way for Daihatsu brand too, if they launch it in India.

Otherwise, I still don't understand when Toyota & Chevy says that, "Some of our products are too expensive to be made in India"! Why can't something be made reasonably priced by localization?! Or are they trying to have a halo by making such statements?!

Re: Struggling in India, Toyota asks Daihatsu to help

Quite ironical that on one hand we have a thread the heralds that Toyota is the world's biggest car maker, yet another thread that they are struggling in India and is asking for assistance from Daihatsu!

The sales numbers for Jan 2016 (8511) is the lowest for the past 20 months!
The last time the value was lesser was way back in April 2014=7562!

Other than the Camry whose sales don't add much to the numbers, every other car sold by the company has dropped significantly in sales Y-O-Y.

Something is just not going right for the big T!
