re: Hyundai ix25 Compact SUV caught testing in India. EDIT: Named the Creta

What a bad name!
Word association throws up Crater, Creature, excreta.
Also sounds feminine, which doesn't fit well on a butch muscular SUV.
I wonder if they tested the name in the brand clinics they were doing for the last few months.

re: Hyundai ix25 Compact SUV caught testing in India. EDIT: Named the Creta

I'm sure there's some logic behind it, even if the logic makes sense only to a marketing executive. Here's an old but fun article on naming that still applies, starting with a detailed picture of how Agilent was named. Quote (quoting two execs of a naming company who hate these sterile names):
Quote:
“We don’t do names like Agilent,” Manning tells me. “And so we have to pass on a lot of big contracts. We’d name a car for GM for free, if they’d just let us do something cool. Something with some emotional connectivity. It’d be such a ****ing public service.”

“No one names a car Mustang or Thunderbird or Monte Carlo anymore,” Altman chimes in. “Instead, you have Acura. Alero. Xterra. Integra. All thoroughly researched committee decisions. All emotionally empty … By the time they’ve been laundered, and pressed and packaged there’s nothing left.”

Seriously Hyundai, do you really wish to kill the enthusiasm of prospective car buyers before launch? IX25 is such a nice name, stick to it please.

No, Thanks Hyundai!!! Creta --> Creative?? How in the world

Looks like Hyundai is out of creativity. First "Grand" i10, then "Elite" i20, but at least those were just adjectives to the cars, but Creta, seriously?? It is the name of the car itself. For a car as good looking as iX25, how did they turn up with such an ugly name?? Ain't there any stylish or macho name to suit the character of the car?? Too bad, too lazy Hyundai.

Extract from article- "The Creta has been designed and developed in Korea while our engineers in Hyderabad and Chennai have played an important role in customising it for the Indian conditions"

I hope our engineers have addressed some of the issues raised in forum
1. Leg space for second row
2. Ability to have 3 people sit in second row comfortably
3. Providing 6 speed auto

re: Hyundai ix25 Compact SUV caught testing in India. EDIT: Named the Creta

With Duster only doing ~1400 units in May,
Has Duster already surrendered to the CRETA

But i'm sure one thing that'll definitely differ in the two SUVs is their
off-roading capability.
Hyundai is known for its delicate and beautiful vehicles while the Duster sureply is one off-roader.

Its a strange choice for a name.

But dafter names (like Duster, for instance) have done well in the same segment, so its obviously not the name that matters.

That should be mainly because of production adjustment for Lodgy stock up.

I hope our engineers have addressed some of the issues ...
On the other hand I hope that the "customization" did not include de-engineering with respect to structure, safety, quality etc.

But since the word out is that they are targeting this one as a mass market model, I don't have my hopes high.

If they don't compromise on safety, give us the AT from the Elantra and offer it at Elantra prices, I am willing to take a look, the nausea inducing name notwithstanding.

re: Hyundai ix25 Compact SUV caught testing in India. EDIT: Named the Creta

As far as names go, the Creta is right up there with the Skoda Laura. Hope they don't have a souped up 'X' version waiting in the wings (X-Creta)

The product, I'm sure will be solid. Comfortable, packed with features etc.

re: Hyundai ix25 Compact SUV caught testing in India. EDIT: Named the Creta

Car will surely come with 6speed AT matted with 1.6Crdi engine. It will also be offered with 1.4crdi and 1.4 petrol engines. This has been confirmed by my friend working with Hyundai. He even says that top end will get touchscreen Navigation system with 6 airbags. Wont have 60:40 split seats though.

Re: Hyundai ix25 Compact SUV caught testing in India. EDIT: Named the Creta

As per certain media outlets, the correct pronounciation is akin to "cray-tah" and not "cree-tah".

But surely, it won't 'crater' in terms of market performance, would it? That is confidence by Hyundai

Re: Hyundai ix25 Compact SUV caught testing in India. EDIT: Named the Creta

Overheard a couple of people talk about a launch on the 21st of July and pre-bookings would start a week or ten days earlier. Pretty much just around the corner. Deliveries from September (right after shradh).
