Summary of changes: 2014 VW Polo

Mod Note: Please continue the discussion on the Polo 1.5L Review Thread. Thanks!

Not finding a thread to post , I m here posting news on the POLO FACELIFT 2014.

Yesterday, we at VW dealership to take delivery of my Vento. While we were admiring the white vento into our family, there drives in a Red Polo that looked a little different that was zipped past inside the workshop floor.

Instantly, I knew it was the new polo facelift.

I requested the dealership if I could take a look at the vehicle and they readily obliged.

Here are my observations:

1) The polo that was received was a batch now called Polo GP in 90 Bhp variant in the usual red colour.
2) The Engine looks identical to the current 1.6s and visible differences.
3) It is confirmed they are not imported , but produced in India.
4) Double barrel smoked head lights.
5) Euro spec steering wheel which control buttons on either side on the steering wheel, which means its a FULL euro spec steering wheel with no ommissions or deletions.
6) centre console with outer borders of centre ac vents , audo system and climatronic done in metallic finish. ( Not to my liking ).
7) So changes to the inner roof linings I guess. Could not register exact details.
8) Front bumper like that of passat which additional chrome work. Not very classy or in detail.
9) Back bumper with reflectors and other changes as noted in the spy shots.
10) Beige color seats but more contoured like the ones in GT / TSi.
11) I do not remember if the centre console was single colour or twin colour.

All in all the changes were welcome , but not very striking.

Did not discuss much , as my white baby was standing outside demanding for more attention from me.

I would like to add one more feature that is coming with the Polo face-lift. The india specific polo face-lift will get cornering lights same as Jetta. i think that's the segment 1st feature.

The Cross version should have been an option on the GT model rather than the lower HP rating...

One of my long time grouse with all cars sold in India:

Does this refreshed Polo have an all black dash, interior option (like Swift)? At least in the performance oriented variants like TSI or GT TDI?

I guess, the answer would be NO. No wonder, our market hasn't yet matured or the OEMs doesnt listen to us.

you are right. the all black dash looks much more appealing , simple and neat. i dont think or remember that the new polo has one. again , i dont really remember.

manufacturers think we the consumers appreciate non functional and fancy facelifts. but they are wrong.

Does an increase of 15 horses over the 90ps version warrant a separate variant and a GT tag? Unless there is significantly higher level of kit (ESP, Traction control, more airbags) I feel the new GT TDI is redundant.

Unfortunately, I was not able to really talk to the guys at dealership. I was pre-occupied with the purpose of being there. I wish I was able to click photos and really talk to the guys on the floor who showed me the car.

GT TDI 1.5 most probably will get the DSG, according to a sales manager guy.

I think when he said 'same engine', it was in reference to his earlier point about the cross polo.
