Mod Note: Our TUV300 Report has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!
Pictures of the test mule of a new utility vehicle have surfaced on the internet. The vehicle, which was spotted near the Mahindra Research Centre in Chennai, has a more upright stance, shorter overhangs, flatter bonnet and more compact side profile than a Mahindra Scorpio. Additionally, this test mule has halogen tail lamps unlike the Scorpio's LEDs.
All these points lead us to believe that the vehicle spotted is the next-generation Mahindra Bolero (codename U301). Like the present-generation car, the U301 is likely to feature a body-on-frame construction. Reports suggest that the car will be available in various body lengths. There could even be a sub-4 metre version of the car.
While it is not clear which engine will be used to power the next-generation Bolero, it is rumoured that the car could be given the Quanto's 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel motor.
The Bolero is a very important vehicle for Mahindra. It has been the company's (and India's) largest selling utility vehicle for a long time now, regularly touching sales figures of 10,000 units a month.

Actually it looks bad for a Bolero ! With a high floor line and hopefully (!) boaty feel with that height, they would kill the Bolero customers.
Could be! Doesn't look like the compact SUV at all! Compared to the current Bolero, this one looks to be a little curvy, if I may say so - at least above the shoulder line. ORVM seems carried over from the current gen Scorpio/Xylo.

Hardly see the sub 4 meter testing the Indian customers desire to buy a big small car.

If that's the case then it would be a complete case of bad copy of Evoque
High time the Bolero brand gets some proper investments given the money it has brought and is bringing M&M.
And this thread could be in for the long haul considering how long the Mahindra test vehicles normally run. :)

True! It even looks like a swift in a bigger platform.
Wondering whether the Indian model will have the rear door hinged at the back. Might be one of the very few Indian cars/SUV with "rear-hinged" doors. Something that's not common on Indian roads.

You add a 4wd to the sub 4m car and you have a vehicle that addresses almost all the shortcomings of a Thar. That would be an interesting option,if the looks are more Jeep-like
I hope this is not the next generation Bolero! I have a different opinion to most people here. Mercedes puts more and more curves on successive generations of the M-Class but their G-Wagen stays with the same boxy shape irrespective of its iterations. The Bolero in my opinion- should be like that. If you take away its USP- maximization of interior space due to good old solid straight lines- it may end up being a model whose earlier generations were much more popular. Also there's the uncharted territory of the rural area folks preference for straight functional lines compared to curves.
Looks more like the XUV to me; BTW location of spotting? TN?
I think the one in the front is the new Maxximo and the one in the rear is the next gen Bolero.
Good pics but i believe that a thread already exists on it.
I dont think its a new maxximo. I think its a all new micro lcv from mahindra to compete with tata ace zip
