re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

^^
Not a bad design but as marketed it is not come close to the "So called TANK Design" as they have marketed. I think the more i see the model more i can accept to the design.

* Cover for Rear Mounted wheels could have been better.
* Alloy Wheels look much so tiny.

I will definitely think of owning it if it comes with the following.

* Good Quality Interiors.
* A 100 - 120 BHP Engine with Torque above 250 NM
* Wider 16/17 inch Alloys.
* Good Handling.

Is this the next-generation Mahindra Bolero (U301)? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300

Reminds me of my 2004 chianti red Honda CR-V; looks close enough.

Any approximation on the mileage expected of a TUV? Asking since today's launch of Ciaz Hybrid for 8.25l seems to be a blockbuster launch with 28kmpl!

I think M&M has done a decent job in terms of the overall looks of this one. They were not kidding when they said boxy design. Even the fog lights are boxy. The only few things which seem to be in a circular shape are the tires and may be the steering wheel as well.

I just hope that they don't come up with that speculated under tuned engine with 80 bhp. It might be very underpowered for a 7 seater. If they can tune it to give 100 horses at least it will be well worth it.

A very minimalistic no nonsense design. Mahindra has actually underdesigned a vehicle. I say underdesigned because a little more character would have been good. There is altogether too much monotony. Probably a xuv 500 (2015) kind of grill with slender vertical slats and more black honeycomb inset would have broken the acres of bland painted panels.

Zingwheels article below and corresponding TBHP thread does offer food for thought for MM to complement its sales in sub-4m SUV battle where the tough tank seems to lack ammo and Tivoli could be used right by its marketing to compete aggressively

re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

Visited the M&M showroom this morning and inquired about the TUV300, the sales lady very clearly told me that Mahindra has told them not to reveal the details of the vehicle before the launch. She also said that she did not know more details. On telling her that most of the details except the specs and features were already on the net, she did confirm the following:

1. Models would be T4, T6 and T8
2. Ex Showroom prices would be between 6 - 9 Lakhs.
3. 80 PS with 230 Nm engine.
4. Not the same Quanto engine but a new model.
5. AMT would be offered with the top end model but waiting period of 3 months.

She also mentioned that the vehicle would be available for Test Rides from the 11th.

Me thinks that this is one of the most anticipated launches especially wrt the pricing.

In the US, I always loved the way Jeep looked. Mahindra's design seems to be inspired from that. As Jeep is planning to come to India, they will look like a copy of Mahindra. So sad :-)

If this is True! Game on Mahindra! Wow, what a great time for indian auto industry. Expected to launch list is pretty big and pricing is also aggressive. Looks like in the next couple of years, we will not have an inch left on our city roads.

Pretty decent looking car... I think it would have the road presence wherein the car in front gives way upon seeing the flashing headlamps! Looking forward to seeing the car in person in the next few days.

re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

I think the looks are classic, and this in fact can pull more crowd than any quirky designs. Neatly designed 7 seater and if the price band is between 6-9 lakhs, they have a great product. Though they cannot expect to sell a lot of top variant cars, they sure can have a lot of buyers from the rural segments for the lower variants.
The hippy crowd from Metros with stretched pockets will look at more funky designs, while M&M can silently sell a lot of cars such as this, all over India.
It will be interesting to see the numbers of this car a year from now!

re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

Am a bit surprised by some of these comments on the design. The design is Boxy (as intended), but is clean and free from the usual OTT that M&M is prone to (Case : New Scorpio Rear applique)

I think it is a break from some of the overly curvy and embellished designs for the Mini-SUV segments. Needed someone to take a bold and butch stance.

What could have been better :
1. Chrome claw marks on the grill (similar to new Scorpio and XUV) rather than a direct replica of Jeep Cherokee - Not expected from Mahindra, you are not a Land Wind from China
2. More of black cladding, especially the Bumper, Wheel Arches, Underbody Guard - The plain slabs of metal make the product look less sleek & flabby
3. Rear headlights with LED and a bit of character (This is strange about M&M designers - On one hand you have the Christmas-tree multicolour LED rear on the Scorpio and then you have this 1970's plain rear lights on the TUV)

I suspect with cladding all around TUV will look much more tough than what it is right now. Now looks like a shrunken Jeep Cherokee (Front Grill). In fact this would have been a great mini-SUV if they had looked at Freelander 2 as the inspiration (Rather than a TANK). Was waiting for the XUV Automatic, but will definitely have a look at the AMT TUV !

I feel the headlights should have been squarer given the overall boxyness of the design. Something like this (sorry that's the best I could cook up in paint).

Would have also somewhat revived the look of the best looking Bolero till date.

This is one vehicle where BHPians are equally divided on their opinion about it's styling! Many members hate the boxy design and an equal number of members like the styling.

This surely looks a lot more appealing, something like the older Cadillac SUVs.

P.S.: Not comparing a Cadillac to the Mahindra in any ways, no flames please!

re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

Though Mahindra has got most of the elements right in terms of design for the new TUV3OO, the rear surely seems to have a 'not so good' feel. Faux skid plates both front and rear and some side cladding would have surely helped in cutting the bulk of metal like some of our members have pointed out.
After market alloys are definitely going to find their way in for the rather boring alloy design.

It all depends upon how "WELL" they are going to price the TUV3OO for the kind of ride, and robustness they are to offer on this product.
