Absolutely:
Here's a brief in order of my visit to each:
PTE: Power Training Engineering:
Mechanical design and analysis, Engine durability testing, New and alternate fuels. Mahindra listed partner.
NVH: Noise Vibration , Harshness:
These guys were testing the noise of the sub systems. Interior noise, Vehicle pass by Noise(Heavy vehicles)
design optimization of intake and exhausts.
SDL: Structural Dynamics Lab:
Most presentable of all. A separate presentation was given for this lab. Testing carried out for mutli axle simulation, stress management, fatigue testing.
At the entrance you can see the robotic arms (test cycle) testing the durability of the driver seat. (Push and pulls based on driver in and out movement), They will guide you how they sampled and created simulation for actual Indian road conditions based on vehicle test requirement.
PSL: Passive Safety Lab:
Everyone looks forward to this however this will just be a power point presentation only.
They will show you the actual crash site with Halogen lamps and high speed cameras. You can see an array of old and new crashed and dented Beats, Nanos and the likes of Indicas and yes even a Volvo.
Tests explained - Full frontal , Side impact, Rollover for buses, Air bag deployment and seat belt anchorage
(I volunteered to tell them to make some of the videos Public in the hope of more people recognizing the importance of a seat belt)
Testing and Certification :
Explained tyre testing and reading the markings on most Vehicle tyres
Lot of the tests were not disclosed to public from this lab.
(fuel tank, helmet impact, steering impact, bulbs, wheel rims, Bumper etc)
Emission certificate Lab : This is where the Avventura and Yamaha were spotted
A few Merc S Class were lying around, however the testing carried out on a Chevy Travera was demonstrated. Moving base to replicate actual road conditions and speeds. robotic arms to for manually operating gears based on test cycle
There were a few more labs before the tour moved to the ARAI academy where they will tell you the options they are throwing for Mtech and PHD courses in collaboration with some Indian and international universities.
Cant remember much, need to dig in the brochure which is in the car and I am too lazy to move right now.
Hope this helps everyone plan there visit. Cheers guys.
