Rated higher than Skoda Yeti and Nissan Qashqai? Another surprise is that the S-Cross is priced higher than the Skoda Yeti in UK.

With Maruti speaking of 'premium' positioning - I think they might be getting another Kizashi ready for launch - a classic case of a brilliant car spoiled by poor positioning.

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

The GC from the pics don't look too impressive.

The SX4 cross sold in the UK has 165 mm clearance but that will be inadequate for Indian conditions. I hope it's more than the 180 mm clearance the SX4 sedan gets.

New hatchback spotted testing!

I saw this heavily camouflaged hatchback being tested on the Kala Gram road in Chandigarh today. One of my friends took the photos from his phone camera while I was driving. I have no idea what make is this. That's why I am making a new thread.
Mods please move it appropriately.

I had in fact seen the very same car being tested on the Chandigarh-Shimla highway as well a few weeks back however I could not take any pictures at that time.

This is the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross crossover. Not a hatchback, though.

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

Guys
Any idea about the launch time frame? I am currently in the market for a 10-12 Lakh diesel crossover( 4WD preferred) and am torn whether to wait till the S-Cross arrives or to go with the Duster.

The Duster is a capable machine and fits my bill perfectly, but I am kind of surprised that the facelifted one was not introduced along with the 4WD option. Now if that arrives 2 months down the line.......

I think Renault has miscalculated in thinking that adding 4WD would bring big sale numbers. Not more than say 10 % of the buyers would find logic in spending an additional 1 L ,I would feel. The facelift would have added more zest to the charts than the 4WD, as it would have appealed to the general car buyer. But then again ,maybe that's the last arrow in the quiver before a full fledged revision happens on the Duster. Just my 2 bits.

Also,is the Hyundai iX25 in the similar catagory ?

I don't think the SX4 crossover is going to match the Duster w.r.t. Ground Clearance and 4x4 capability.

I highly doubt whether its going to have 4x4 at all looking at the ground clearance and the type of vehicle it is. At best it'd compete with Ecosport but then I'm one of those who think of Ecosport and Duster 4x4 as two different classes of cars than calling them both compact SUV.

The S Cross comes with optional 4WD. Here is the comparison link originally posted by fellow bhp-ian IshaanIan ( sorry, I do not know how to post 2 quotes in a reply . )

Funny though, this shows the S Cross having the Skoda Yeti and the Nissan Qashqai as rival models. And yet in India the 2WD Yeti is a 18 L affair... or did I get it wrong and is it that Maruti also decided to rip us off and offer the S-Cross at @ 16-18 Lakhs ?

4wd with 165mm ground clearance? I'm not sure how its going to match up with the rivals like Duster @ 210mm and Ecosport @ 200mm.

That said, even Ecosport gets 4WD (in Brazil I think) but Indian market is a totally different story for car manufacturers.

I think I need to search about Ecosport and S Cross's 4wd ability before I comment any further. But I still have doubts whether they can match Duster.

It sure looks better than the previous model on sale here in GCC.

Ran into some more images on the web. The pricing will be interesting. If it priced similar to the Ertiga it might just beat the Duster.

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

It has been close to 2 months since the last reports on the S Cross. MSIL has been busy with the Ciaz launch and now the Alto K10. In the meanwhile Mahindra has launched the new Scorpio and Renault the Duster AWD. This segment defiitely requires more competition and I believe that there is a huge underexploited segment to be tapped by the car manufacturers. The Scorpio and Strme are full size vehicles have many shortcomings . The Duster though a capable vehicle lacks the quality interiors expected from a vehicle costing INR1.5 million.

If specced right and priced aggressively, MSIL can make a success of the S Cross and establish itself is a serious palyer in the Rs million + territory.
