Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

Slightly OT, but related to the 1.6 engine. If Suzuki- Fiat alliance works out, a win -win situation for both Fiat and Suzuki.

Somethings is seriously cooking in MS. I never expected this much of an effort in either building a product or selling it, since the cars would sell irrespective of how they marketed it or what they offered. But with the S-Cross, I am bowled over by the product as well as the efforts put into marketing and promoting it.

While I am not a fan of the looks, a simple nose job can definitely increase the desirability quotient. A quick attempt below.

Fantastic attempt. Please send it to Maruti Suzuki so that they can apply it in reality. I vote for the second picture, looks more like an Audi but does the S Cross a lot than the other two.

But what matters to me is the engine that's underneath. That 118 HP and 320 NM figures are mouthwatering and the most that makes me happier is the RPM that this car settles to at in 6th gear @ 100 kmph = 2000 rpm. In my Swift it is at 80 kmph that the room is 2000.

Anything above 100 kmph feels stressful so I hope that isn't the feeling in the S Cross.

How bad can that be ?

Maruti seems confident of the S Cross. Conducts a 4 day media drive. Drive unlike competition doesn't seem to be a designated path, here S Cross travelled from Ghothi to Sula Vines - Nashik.

That is already a known quantity. It is pretty efficient in the Ciaz. I guess the ERTIGA weighs about the same as the S - cross, so wouldn't be too sluggish.

UK version's 1.6L CVT Petrol weighs 1185kg.
ASEAN NCAP's 1.6L CVT Petrol weighs 1185kg.

The 1.6 DDiS is 1305kg in UK.

See here for details http://www.suzuki.co.uk/cars/cars/ne...ross/tech-spec

Oh and according to AutoCar India, Indian S-Cross 1.6 DDiS weighs 1275kg and not 1185kg http://www.autocarindia.com/auto-rev...ve-392011.aspx

See the links I shared above. You can easily spot the difference between the Indian and UK version.

For comparison, the Hyundai Creta has 6 airbags, ESP and Hill-Start Assist.

Of course this is no new comer, but it would be interesting to know if 1.3's state of tune has undergone any changes, particularly impacting the much talked about turbo lag.

As I recollect the Duster TD experience, I remember that the 85 PS was easier to handle in bumper-bumper traffic, perhaps due to linear torque delivery.

Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

Spotted a couple of white S Crosses overtaking our car at a road-less road in Bhandardara, traversing broken surfaces with (mini) SUV-like abandon.
Both had the 1.6 badge with HR 26 regn

Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

From the looks department, the car looks too front heavy. I mean, with the length and size of the bonnet, this design according me demands a longish boot to complete the entire picture.

None the less, the 1.6 DDIS's torque and bhp figures look amazingly brilliant. 32 kgm will shatter the day lights out of the driver when he is in the mood for it.

Pics of S-Cross taken at scenic locations. While S-Cross does not look the best, I think it looks much better than other Maruti products in India today.
