Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

A few negatives-
No independent rear suspension (for a powerful car with 1.6L engine)
Alloy wheel looks ugly (and heavy)
Bad front radiator grill

Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

The front end is not to my liking and somehow reminds of the Chevy Forester which is not positive since that car failed here. I think all black instead of chrome would look better on the front.

I must admit. I dont like the looks of the S cross but in the First snapshot above, it looks killer.

Cars in person are a different story altogether. Hopefully this turns out to be a pretty one.

Caffeine Brown looks horrendous in this picture.

However in videos it looks palatable.
My pick would be Urban blue and Premium Silver. Its a deep shade of Silver and looks decent.

Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

I can buy a car of any color, as long as it is silver

In whites, I prefer MUL's pearl white to a ,let's say, Hyundai's milky white.

I foresee the blue selling outselling the others initially, like the orange in the case of Ecosport. But the greys and silvers will gradually pick up.

IMO, S Cross looks good in lighter shades, Blue will have an initial hype.

Guess color wise seeing in reality will differ from the pic, the video seem to depict the real brown shade.

The Autocar First Drive of the S cross... I really like how this one drives, if only they had launched an AT version on the 1.6...

Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

I just can't see how the S-cross will be a success with such timid looks.
The Duster,Terrano and Creta all look the part but S-cross fails miserably. It might drive really well but I think looks are very important for the segment it's targeting. Sorry to say but the Ecosport and the Aventura has better road presence than the S-cross which looks a slightly stretched hatch.
Maruti needs a killer pricing for it's success. But with the 1.6 engine imported and more features it will be definitely at least 1 lakh costlier than the Ciaz.
My gut feel is that this model will fail but let's see.

I understand the point you are making. But save for the Swift, which other car from Maruti has looks which can be attributed as its strength. Majority of their cars are sedate and understated and Maruti normally pastes stickers or chrome here and there all the time. They tried their hand with quirks and produced Ritz which has failed only due to its looks. The car is otherwise a very good VFM package.

Having said that, despite all these shortcomings, they have managed to hit a home run on most occasions. This would again boil down to the pricing in my opinion. As I mentioned in another thread, there is no doubt that its advantage Creta at the moment. But I will hold my horses back until the pricing gets out to predict S-cross as a failure. You are right, Maruti has to put aggressive pricing as differentiator!!!

Re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

As soon as the Creta preview was out Maruti is getting proactive in creating the Buzz about the S-Cross.

IMHO they should've introduced that Olive or Military Green colour (similar to Duster) right at the launch. That would've grabbed more eyeballs and bookings for sure. Even Duster had Woodland Brown and EcoSport had Mars Red to differentiate the car at the time of launch.

I have been trying hard to catch a glimpse of the rear disc brakes and those stupid alloys are not letting me.

Just noticed S-Cross got 5 lug nuts a la the Duster.
