Maruti did not get an AT in S cross because it does not have an AT transmission as of yet in its line up. S cross can't be an AMT and neither can be a 4 speed torque converter one , neither a CVT. This needs a proper torque converter based 6 speeder which they don't have. This is going to be a wounder for this car as its competition is going to be automatic and the market is going to incline itself towards automatic diesels any second now once people get a hold of creta, Scorpio and xuv5oo automatic

How are they managing in European markets, if at all it comes in AT? Also, if they have AT then importing it would shoot up prices.

Also, I remember in the CIAZ review that the infotainment system has issue of it being very slow to inputs. I really hope they have sorted out such issues as a slow touch screen experience is such a downer.

+1. 1200 odd kgs is good enough for this segment, after all we dont want a tractor do we? Iam happy as long as I am getting the same quality as UK customers.

That might be Maruti's play here... Its a no-brainer that the new Vitara looks better (ok, very subjective) and will be more successful in our market.

Maybe they will wait for the Creta's sales to settle down after the initial hype and then bring in the Vitara. But who knows, maybe Honda and Toyota will be ready with their own small SUVs/Crossovers by then

No AT meaning I can drop this option from my list.

They are both very similar in many ways.
I doubt if it would be a casualty. S-Cross will be priced higher even for base model I assume.
EDIT : Take my words back. I thought Ertiga is sub-4m. Its not. (Hence I edited the post). But I still feel, it will be priced lower to S-Cross base and we will see market for both.

I do agree there is an overlap, but that is good for Maruti. They would like keep people guessing in their showrooms, rather than going to the next one!

On the other point: I surely expected the 1.3 diesel to show up and counter the 1.4L version of Creta.

Ertiga's biggest USP is the 3rd row which S-Cross lacks. And they will clearly be at different price points.

S-Cross in the UK has CVT for the petrol engine and Twin Clutch AT (TCSS) for the 1.6 MJD. The latter is an advanced AMT unit with twin clutch.

No worries for Maruti and the Ertiga. Simply because the Ertiga is the only 7 seater Maruti you can buy (not counting the Eeco). Anyone who wants the added flexibility of a 7 seater has to consider the Ertiga and will not look at the S-cross.

On the other hand Maruti's lineup is looking confusing.

The premium sedan Ciaz doesn't have the same features or engine as the crossover. This points to the crossover being priced more than the Sedan. Difficult to justify.

The S-cross does not look like an SUV at all. More like a Elite i20 cross hatch. It's like a bigger Swift but then so is the YRA.

On the other hand they are getting the YRA premium hatch which is same sized as the S-cross. Then they are getting the YBA compact SUV which is also a crossover.

Looks like lots of overlap will happen with Maruti. Somehow on paper all products look confused and not conservative. The S-cross is very well equipped in features and in terms of performance on paper but it doesn't make you go "Wow! I got to have it" when you look at it. The Ecosport and the Creta and the Duster initially had that effect.

Similarly the Elite i20 made you go wow when one saw the photos. But in the YRA thread people are wondering what to make out of the design.

Is there a rear AC vent? Do not see in the feature list. Can see the arm rest in picture, but cannot make out whether there is a rear AC vent.

The S CROSS base models will be priced at par with the ZDI ERTIGA (my guess &#128518 and appears better kitted and has a bigger boot ,minus the 3rd row (which people rarely use ).

It also looks slick with black interiors.

Quite a few people who want a tall car end up buying the ERTIGA ( knee problems being the cause ).
They would be more than happy with the S Cross.

They would be happy for the height of the car and ease in ingress and egress but what about the cost factor?

Top end diesel Ertiga retails around 10.8 to 11L in some cities whereas the S Cross would be around 11.5 to 12L. That difference could be a downer for some.

I really don't get what the S Cross stands for ! Its neither here nor there and i don't India is ready for a lifestyle vehicle.
The GLA from Mercedes is a car that comes to mind when i see the S Cross.

What comes to my mind when I see the S Cross is the Subaru Outback. I am surprised why no one has compared S Cross to Outback in this thread. I see a copy of Outback here, a little smaller though ! And I should add that the Outback is an immensely practical vehicle in the USA. It has oodles of space and at the same time is high enough for a mini SUV. If you forget about the exterior looks, the Outback is a great, practical vehicle. I think the S Cross will be similar.
