I think one easy way to check the difference in build quality would be to check the weights of the cars in different countries. And I found out that the weight of the Indian spec Swift is ~40 kg less than the Mexico or Euro specific swift. And we already know the difference in the crash test results. Now, the interesting thing I found out was that the weight of the Indian, South African and the Mexican spec Ciaz are the same So I think with Maruti Suzuki are not going to alter their 'premium' offerings in India. So though we might get lesser airbags, I think the Indian spec S-Cross will get the same structural rigidity and the works. Wish they gave seven airbags in India as well. I don't think people in this segment would mind paying a little extra for that.

P.S.- I think people wouldn't mind paying a little extra for those stunning alloys in the international version as well At least make it an optional accessory.

This is definitely not the way to check if the build quality of a car is same through out the world. If the Indian swift weighs 40 kgs lesser than european spec, it does not prove much, 40 kgs of weight can not differentiate between a 5 star rated car and a structurally unsafe indian swift.
Companies use high tensile strength which is much more rigid but far lighter than normal steel, for example Ford used Boron steel in Fiesta's doors to bring the weight in check which provides greater rigidity than regular steel at a much lesser weight while they had to reinforce Ecosport to make it pass rigorous UK tests, the indian Ecosport would have failed the crash tests there

One can not compare the weight alone, we need to consider the materials used etc.

Here is some info on S Cross.

Maruti has organized for a media preview on 4 July. Launch date is speculated to be end July. Expect the 1.3DDIS variant too for lower starting prices. Will there be also the K14 petrol version too?

Maruti, for the first time, will introduce a 1.6 litre diesel engine that its parent Suzuki Motor Corp. sources from Fiat Spa. It will also be accompanied with a 1.6 litre petrol engine

A Maruti dealer who did not wish to be named said with a 1.6 litre engine, the car could be a “killer”. In their previous models Maruti has drawn a lot of criticism for their cars being under-powered. The engine will develop 118bhp and 32kgm of torque, which will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Looking at 320 Nm, a question comes to mind. I don't have much experience with diesel engines, but, happened to notice in XUV and Safari 3.0, that the clutch has a pretty aggressive bite. Does handling high torque need the clutch to be that way?

With the upcoming unveiling of S Cross to the media, the battle is about to begin. Specs of the CUV's in comparison . S cross is likely to undercut the competition with its pricing. GC is speculative.

In my opinion Hyundai Creta wil be the winner here. It looks the sharpest and has the SUV stance to go with it. I somehow also feel that Duster will not be left in the dust.

As per initial reports Hyundai Creta was planned for 'Festive Season' launch and pulling it up a couple of months ( to counter SCross) was a smart business move. I hope that it wasnt a decision made in haste and that it wont result in too many niggles in the first batch of cars.

I am sure Maruti would be loosing sleep on the pricing of SCross. With the constant comparison with Creta and the fact that they are relying solely on imports for 1.6 Ltr engine - they look to be in a tight spot. For consumers like me, it may turn out to be a boon and we may well see the top end 1.6 MJD for around 11.

Exciting times are ahead and I cant wait to see it launch already.

Though, the newly-introduced Twin Clutch System by Suzuki (TCSS) is basically a six-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), albeit with two hydraulically controlled clutches; similar to Volkswagen’s dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) technology. In this technology, one clutch is at the helm of gears one, three, and five, while the other clutch handles gears two, four, and six. It can be said a big success of company engineers as they have skillfully combined dual-clutch technology in a budget-friendly package of an AMT. The Japanese automaker says that with the Twin Clutch System by Suzuki (TCSS), any desired gear would be on offer instantly. The Indian buyers would be deprived of this new technology as Maruti would launch the compact SUV with manual gearbox only.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is powered by Fiat’s 1.6-litre, four-cylinder Multi-jet diesel engine in UK, which develops 118bhp of power and 320Nm of torque and it remains unchanged with the Twin Clutch System by Suzuki (TCSS) automatic transmission as well.

The India-spec S-Cross premium crossover would also use the aforesaid diesel engine with almost same power and torque figures. Additionally, S-Cross also gets steering wheel mounted mounted paddle shifters, albeit the driver uses manual operations. The new automatic variant is around 30 kgs heavier and fuel efficiency is also a bit low than the standard variants. As for pricing, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is GBP 1350 pounds (Around INR 1.34 lakhs) more premium than the standard manual variants.
