they got in very late into this segment. What is the point of plonking in a car like cross over when Duster and EcoSport are ruling the roost, looking much more beefier and butch? Even the I20 Elite has not set sales on fire so to speak.
They should have modified their existing Gypsy, plonked in the 1.6 liter engine and launched a mini SUV, something like the earlier Serria , that would provide better competition

True they are late but the segment is still open. S Cross seems to be just to 'announce' Maruti's entry into the CUV segment.

The planned 'Vitara Brezza' that will rival EcoSport and the IM - 4(XBEE) and the New Vitara ( not yet announced for India) will take on the market head-on with the existing players.

Duster has been selling in the 1000s for the past couple of months. Ecosport is a sub 4M hatch on stilts and should have been compared to the crosses from various manufacturers and not the Duster in the first place.

The only thing that the S-Cross misses out is the height of the car (since there are reports of increased GC for India). It is very less compared to the others in the segment. But it might turn out to be an advantage in the handling department since it sits low.

All the reviews compare it favorably against other competitors maybe once the car is launched here the review will tell the true story of the it's strengths.

The Gypsy would not have done well as it is very short in width and very tall in height to serve as an ideal mile cruncher.

That said, I would be MOST pleasantly surprised if the build quality is up to international standards instead of merely having similar gadgetry.
I guess this picture confirms the Dual Zone ACC(unless that DUAL button is meant for something else )

Nope, far from it. I guess Indians will love it and buy because it has all the right ingredients to be a success.

It is a pseudo suv, looks decently spacious, has all the gizmos the common man wants, and hopefully the ride and handling will be decent as well. It will definitely lure a lot of people looking for an upgrade from their hatches.

I drive a Punto and will close my eyes and trade it for the 1.6 version S cross or the Hyundai creta and I guess many others will.

I only hope the build quality is not compromised !!

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

I fear that this car might not be a volume leader. People have this SUV fetish and this might not help.

Why couldn't Maruti introduce the SUVish vehicles like Vitara and have this for other markets? Also, I find the Japs lacking in width of their cars. Its Europeans then Koreans and then japs as far as the width goes.

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

Here is the video uploaded on YouTube. Looks good and very well loaded with features. If they price it right, this will be another best seller for Maruti. At a starting price of 8 lacs, it could very well eat into market share of some of the premium sedans.

Is it too soon to ask for a refresh to the Ciaz?

Will certainly benefit from getting the Cruise control and Dual Zone A/C. AT with Cruise Control is all I want. Unfortunate that Jazz couldn't provide it especially since it is available with the paddle shifts as well.

Ciaz in its 1.6 variant will get most features that will be seen in the S Cross.

There will not be a refresh, but probably a Sports variant in the 1.6MJD guise.

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

Maruti S-Cross bookings open at INR 31,000.

Quote:
S Cross is nearing its much-anticipated India launch and sensing that the company dealers have started taking bookings for the crossover at a token amount of INR 31,000
Expect prices to be very competitive. Speculated to have full features in both the 1.3 and 1.6 diesel variants. It is still not known that whether the S-Cross would be launched with an AWD variant or automatic variant in India.

Though reported as available in petrol, is a very remote chance as it is speculated to come later in the K14 turbo variant later.
