Maruti Suzuki to stop exporting cars to Europe for 15 months

Maruti Suzuki India Limited will halt its exports to Europe for at least one year, starting in the quarter April-June. The company is likely to restart exports to the continent in September 2015. This 15 month gap will mean a drop of 10% in the company's total exports for the next fiscal.

Maruti's exports to Europe will cease after the company ships out its last consignment of 15,000 A-Star hatchbacks in the next quarter. The A-Star has been the only model to be exported to Europe for the last few years. The production of the car has been stopped in India. Its replacement, the Celerio, will be shipped to Europe from Suzuki's Thailand plant. The reason behind sourcing the car from Thailand is that the Thai-built Celerio is a Euro-5 compliant model, while the Indian-built version complies only with Euro-4 standards. When the company resumes its exports to Europe, it will do so with a new model, probably the YRA premium hatchback.

Re: Maruti Suzuki to stop exporting cars to Europe for 15 months

Is it that the A-star which is the Alto to the world is being stopped by Suzuki because this model was produced only in India. And in which case Suzuki will be finding it very difficult to sell 15000 of this model, that would be exported in the next quarter, in Europe.
I was of the view that the Celerio is the Estilo replacement.

Does this mean that the A-Star will be stopped globally?

The current A-Star which is sold in Europe as the Alto has received a successor in the Celerio. It was unveiled in Europe at the Geneva Auto show.

When the Celerio goes on sale in Europe later this year, the hatchback will be shipped from Suzuki’s Thailand plant.

Cheers!

Which is this YRA hatch? A completely new hatch above Swift, or below it? Or is it a replacement for Ritz?

Suzuki is developing an all-new B+ segment hatchback codenamed YRA. The YRA hatchback's positioning could be above that of the Ritz and the Swift, rivaling that of the next-gen Hyundai i20 and the Honda Jazz hatchbacks. The report suggests that the car in question, the YRA will be out some time during 2015-16.

Cheers!
