More powerful Tata Aria with 150PS & 320 Nm

Motorbash has managed to get hands on the brochure of more powerful Aria, which they claim is launched (without fanfare), or will be launched shortly. The new Aria has 150PS power & 320Nm Torque.

Here are the brochure pics:

It has the following features over the predecessor:

1. Higher 15.05kmpl of ARAI rated fuel efficiency which was 13.5kmpl in the earlier variant;

2. Dual parabola projector headlamps;

3. Premium Harmon music system, tailor-made to suit Aria’s interiors;

4. New graphics.

re: More powerful Tata Aria with 150PS & 320 Nm

Interesting to see that even though the power is bumped up from 140 PS to 150 PS, torque remains the same at 320 Nm as earlier. This essentially indicates the limitation of the current gearbox at handling more torque. Though it is not clear if the torque curve has changed, earlier peak torque was available between 1700-2700 RPM. It is possible that peak torque might be available at even lower RPM, looking at the higher ARAI tested mileage figure.

Is this going to be launched in both 4X2 and 4X4. Any info on the price? How about the earlier variants, would they be retained.

re: More powerful Tata Aria with 150PS & 320 Nm

The Aria is perhaps Tata Motor's most competent product in all aspects.

With the Aria, Tata Motors actually have a vehicle that can take on similar competitor vehicles from other OEM's and still hold its own. A flawed initial pricing strategy and confused product positioning let the Aria down.

I do not own an Aria, but have driven the 4x4 version of it extensively on the plains and the hilly regions of North Bengal and was deeply impressed by the vehicle's tractability, power delivery, ride & handling dynamics and the overall integrity of the vehicle.
In fact in some areas, i feel - and its a totally personal opinion, that the Aria is actually better than its famed Japanese competitor, especially in the NVH department when cruising at well above ton-up speeds on the highways.

Hopefully, the new upgraded Aria will get the retail numbers it so rightfully deserves and potential buyers will not cock a snook at an "indian badged mpv" trying to win over customers from its Japanese rival.

So as suspected, peak torque is not only available at a lower RPM, but also the range of peak torque has increased significantly, which should improve drivability:

Earlier: 1700 - 2700 RPM: 1000 RPM range
Now: 1500 - 3000 RPM: 1500 RPM range

By the way @rkg power is 150 PS, which translates to around 148 HP.

Beating a dead product, Has not sold, will not sell. Period. Its reputation over the years will kill it.

Which is a tragedy, because finally they may have managed to iron out the glitches, (ofcourse in the true spirit of extended testing by owners), then viola the joke is turned on them that there is no one to buy it. Hearing very little about the post 2012 Aria's, which means the owners are more or less satisfied with their ownership experience or else one should have heard a murmur on T-BHP and other platoforms. Also many taxi owners in South India have now adopted the cheaper variants of the Aria and they too do not seem in great distress. Infact, the numbers of Aria taxis are slowly and steadily on the increase.

As far as power is concerned, it truly seems like gearbox is the only hurdle otherwise even 190bhp is easily achievable.

March 2013 had Aria sell only 13 cars, in June 20013 to November 2013, that's 6 months, they sold less than 100 units. IMAGINE. The reason you have not heard anything from anyone is because the numbers have been SO LESS, that they must be almost none on team-bhp and maybe yours and mine near or far family/friend circle.

LOL @ extended user testing. I am sure none of us will fall for that on the Aria now

Any price corrections expected too? Tata should position it as a MUV against the Innova instead of using the crossover jargon.

May be then, just may be, they'll get some numbers. If the positioning continues to be the same as it is now then I don't see any increase in the sales numbers. I'd love to be proved wrong though

What about the gearbox? Is it a 5 speed unit or a 6 speed unit. We can expect to see it soon on the Safari.

Cars already in transit. concorde is expecting them by 1st week of March. brochure from concorde was uploaded in Aria test drive thread.

Salesguy did not say anything about price hike.

I had an eloborate test drive on Aria Pure LX and also Pleasure for 40 Km on E city flyover.

It is stable at 120 KMPH and stops without any fuss.( both versions)
Pleasure i drove is 2011 make with no rattles and more than 30 K on ODO.

Iam planning to book pure LX this weekend
