Isuzu @ Auto Expo 2014

Isuzu Motors displayed the D-max pick-up truck and the MU-7 SUV at the Auto Expo.

The D-max Space Cab was unveiled. Isuzu is targeting the owner-driven pickup customer with it. It is powered by a 2499 cc 4-cylinder, turbo diesel engine, developing 100 kw (134 bhp) @ 3600 rpm and 294 Nm of torque @ 1800-3200 rpm. It comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. Isuzu will assemble the vehicle at Hindustan Motors Chennai car plant. Pricing of the Space Cab will be disclosed when it is launched.

The Space Cab is available with either a flat deck or an arched deck. There is space behind the front seats for storage. The front seats can be reclined.

The flat deck variant is bare basic and looks more suited for rural or semi-urban delivery truck duties.

Isuzu started assembling the MU-7 SUV in India last year. The variant displayed was the BS-4 complaint one. It is big and spacious, and good-looking, but still available only in a rear-wheel drive configuration and falls short in terms of quality.

Re: Isuzu @ Auto Expo 2014

The USP of Isuzu range would be the very familiar and famed powerplants that have powered umpteen vehicle in our market.

Other than that they are competing in a highly cut throat market where economy and costs play a major role and have very well entrenched players in the names of AL, Tatas, Mahindra and Force Motors.

Would have loved to seem more pics of the MU7 though.

We stressed more on new products during our visit to the Expo. The MU-7 has been covered in our past reports and there was nothing new in it. Just in case you'd like to have a look, here is the link to the Isuzu thread.

Call me crazy, but I actually liked that D-max Space Cab (arched deck).

Re: Isuzu @ Auto Expo 2014

Whats with the completely disinterested "model" standing beside the Grey DMax pickup? The least Isuzu could have done to cover up for the bland looking (and soon to be proven as dud) vehicles they have launched - was to spice up the scene with a few good looking models. But i guess from a company which has the business sense to partner with HM - i am asking for too much.

Re: Isuzu @ Auto Expo 2014

The MU7 is priced a good 10lakhs than what it actually is, but the Dmax is sure sweet.
I love my homegrown domestic companies but it was high time a Japanese pickup truck came to our market. Especially the pricing and the engine specs are spot on.
But where is the double cab version, or did Isuzu stop offering it? The website gives nothing about the vehicles, it still shows only the single cab, and that too offered with airbags as standard. High time they updated their website.

Re: Isuzu @ Auto Expo 2014

Thanks for the nice coverage of a very able player in the international "real SUV" space, as opposed to the faux SUVs being launched by all and sundry here. But then the mice always play when the cat is away !!!

Did you get a chance to speak to any of the officials to learn about their national roll out plans? They seem to have concentrated only in South India so far, except for the lone dealer in Delhi. When do we lesser mortals in eastern India get a chance to drive their invincibles?

I am also curious to know how their new plant in Andhra is coming up and whether the Telengana/Seemandhra dispute might have any negative impact on their plans.

Nothing on eastern or western India has been mentioned so far. All we know is that Isuzu aims to open 9 dealerships by the end of March 2014. Eight of them will be located in south India and one in Delhi.
If Isuzu is really serious, it has to get aggressive with regard to both, marketing as well as expansion.

Re: Isuzu @ Auto Expo 2014

considering its not really allowed in cities, it should have been at least 5-6L cheaper. would have made a great competition in the sub 20L OTR range
Interestingly Isuzu and Mitsubishi have strong ties
