Re: BMW & Mini @ Auto Expo 2014

Super coverage of BMW! I just loved the looks of the X3 & X5. Some very beautiful cars they have got there on display. The BMW i8, though a very good car, lets see how well it sells. (I feel they should not price it disproportionately to put it out of the reach of prospective customers.)

Won't the 3 Series GT kill the 520d? The way I look at it the GT is cheaper (I presume), it's more spacious in the back, can carry more luggage and has the same engine - what's not to like?

I agree. I'd buy the 3GT over the standard 520 but given the target profile of the 5 series/E class i.e. middle aged (40+ ) corporate types, i think the GT may be a little ostentatious (If i can use the word liberally). Corporates tend to go with the established, understated class.

I'm not sure about how the two compare on the technicals though.

Re: BMW & Mini @ Auto Expo 2014

Awesome coverage...Thanks...

Somehow when it comes to the 7 series, the newly launch Mercedes S class beats the 7 series hands down in terms of exterior and interior. The S class feels much more premium.

The i8 looks better than lot of other much pricier sports car. A big round of applause to designers and to BMW for launching it in this form. Typically these kind of cars are always seen in concept model

Big screw up by them on the 118D and 320D display cars, surprised no one noticed this, the wheels have been mismatched, look closely, the first photo shows the 118D Sports plus with a M Performance wheels for the 3 series.

The second photo shows the 320D with wheels which would have been better on the 118D since it matches the Car body paint of red and black

India-bound BMW i8 to come with laser lightning tech.

New laser headlights will be first seen on the BMW i8 and will be subsequently available in other BMW models in future.
The India-bound BMW i8 will be the first production car to be sold with advanced laser headlights when it goes on sale by the end of the year.

Re: BMW & Mini @ Auto Expo 2014

Till now I had been hearing and readin a launch price of approx 1.4 cr for the i8. But according to my SA at Bird Automotive the launch price will be more around 2.5 cr as the media hasn't accounted for the import duty tax on the car which would obviously be a CBU and hence attract a lot of duty.

Thanks, may be, some among you might feel good to know that an enthusiast among you has a small contribution to the heart, which beats inside the i8.

Cheers

Hi Parry, The car is an absolute stunner from the BMW stable. The headlamps provide it a very aggressive look and the front profile overall looks well designed to me. Another plus point that I see is the instrument cluster looks lavish and well designed.

Thanks
