Is it shorter wheelbase than the current figo, or does it appear that way because of the height?

Wheelbase is pretty much the same.

I had done a comparison of the current Figo vs. the Brazilian Ka (aka new Figo hatchback) earlier in this thread, see here: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ml#post3630734

  • Width (excluding mirrors): 1695 mm (1680 mm)
  • Height: 1525 mm (1427 mm)
  • Wheelbase: 2491 mm (2489 mm)
  • Ground clearance: Not specified (168 mm)
  • Turning radius: Not specified (4.9 meters)
  • Kerb weight: 1007 - 1034 kg, depending on engine/trim (1040 - 1090 kg for the 1.2 petrol Figo)
  • Trunk capacity: 257 litres (284 L)
  • Fuel tank: 51 litres (45 L)
  • Tires: 175/65 R14 or 195/55 R15, depending on trim (175/65 R14)
  • Its interesting to see that the length has increased by 9 cm but wheelbase hasn't changed - this implies that at least one of the overhangs has increased.
  • Body width increases by a negligible 1.5 cm, and given Ford's history, its unlikely they've liberated much (if any) shoulder room in the Ka compared to the Figo.
  • Height increases by a clean 10 cm, so that will definitely make entry/egress easier. I wonder how this alters the dynamics (not much, I presume).
  • The Brazilian site did not specify the ground clearance - apparently that's not a matter of concern for buyers there We Indians will keenly look at this, since the Figo was prone to bottoming out while loaded over tall speed breakers.

But I hear your concern. Getting rear wiper is so much important than getting alloys. The latter can at least be fixed after market. Sadly, Hyundai is doing that with the new i20. The rear wash wipe is available only in Asta. 2 variants below gets alloys though.

Doesn't look like Ford has picked up that bad habit here.
I was referring to the yellow one - didn't realize those were just hubcaps, my bad.

Both the Figo & Aspire look really good both inside & out & being Ford's I am sure they will drive well too. Just wish the hatch & sub-4m sedan segment get at least 1 performance engine for the enthusiasts specially from car makers like Ford & Fiat since they make good driver focussed cars.

The yellow Figo posted earlier has absolutely no camoflauge! Maybe since Ford has unveiled the Aspire they don't feel the need to keep the hatch a secret.

A front view of the same yellow one, looks just like the sedan version. Hope they do have the same color at launch.

While this is a definite improvement over the existing Figo design, after the i10 grand, elite i20 and soon to come Jazz, this design fails to excite and looks dull and old. I do hope it drives like the old Figo and also come with an AT.

Looks being subjective, I kind of prefer this over Grand i10. Looks more butch. That said I'd reserve my judgement till I see this car in person. I've been disappointed a few times when the car looks good in photos but not so in-the-flesh(metal).

Re: Next-gen Ford Figo unveiled! Details on page 6

The 2015 all-new Ford Figo (Ka) hatch will be launched a few months after the Figo Aspire sedan is launched, according to Mr. Nigel Harris, President and MD, Ford India.

Quote:
Speaking to Indian Autos Blog about the market launch of the 2015 Ford Figo hatch, Mr. Nigel Harris, President and Managing Director of Ford India, said –

It’s a few months later. We’ll do a drive with you guys, its a couple of months away, so there’s a few months gap between the two of them
[between Figo Aspire and hatchback].
This could very well mean that the all-new Figo hatchback might be launched sometime during the festive season ahead, as Ford has planned to launch the Aspire sedan sometime in the first half of August.

Engine options are likely to remain the same between both siblings.

Ford has missed a trick by not offering the 1.0 EcoBoost + DCT. The way Volkswagen is shifting TSIs and 40% of the Jazz's bookings being that of the CVT, I'm a little surprised why Ford hasn't ventured into the AT scene, inspite of having a competent auto-box in their arsenal.

There's a tradeoff. Put the 1.0 Ecoboost and save on excise benefits but higher cost of the engine technology. Or put the old simpler 1.5 Ti-VCT but lose out on excise.

Looks like the Aspire will get the 1.5 Ti-VCT and 6 speed DCT.

I think it's only a matter of time and they may even get the hatch with the same.

The label on the front seat fabric looks like airbag label. So, Titanium+ with 6 airbags is pretty much confirmed in the hatchback as well?

Well, I believe the 1.0 L Ecoboost engine has not been mated with the DCT anywhere in the world even though the same engine is mounted in the Fiesta, Focus and even the Mondeo apart from the Ecosport.

I'm surprised to see so many people opting for an automatic when they are used to driving a manual transmission. I for one wouldn't shift as long as a manual transmission option is available.
