re: Autoinspekt & other used car evaluation services

While searching cars on Olx or Quikr I came across several inspected by Autoinspekt. The report seems quite comprehensive and I wouldn't mind paying Rs.1200/- for it. Of course you have to do your own checks too.

Re: Autoinspekt & other used car evaluation services

Not got too many first-hand reports about Autoinspekt, hence I'll stick with my usual recommendation. Either get the car checked at a competent authorised dealership of that brand, or from an expert mechanic who you really trust.

The advantage of an authorised dealership is their familiarity with the actual model, access to its service history, tools & equipment, underbody check etc.

The last 3 pre-owned cars I bought have all been thoroughly checked by the authorised dealer. Payment ranges between 2 - 4k for most cars. The report is worth its weight in gold.

Re: Autoinspekt & other used car evaluation services

Autoinspekt is starting point. Once i was checking a TSI model and Autoinspekt mentioned it as Diesel Fuel. It is better to take any car to both independent mechanic and an authorised service centre. Why independent mechanic? because the guy will have much more dedicate time to do check up. Why Authorised service center. They have standard checklist to make sure nothing is missed out. (dependability of the process) But the skill level of the actual technician will vary (and may fill out a TSI car as Diesel fuel).

Re: Autoinspekt & other used car evaluation services

Has anyone used Cars24?

Their online evaluation website gives you low values however at the store level they have a 150 check point system after which the car is auctioned to a large network of their dealers. Apparently within 15 mins you get bids in and you can go with the highest one. Payment given immediately.
Sounds too good to be true but a friend of mine sold his car on it and verified the above was indeed true!

I had the same question - however have the same doubt - that the online quotation you get for your car is really low (not sure if intentional).

Did your friend get more than the quote range in the website?

Don't think he checked online. But he was very satisfied with the price he got and also the hassle free and quick process.

I will definitely give them a try in the near future as they are conveniently located all over too.

I usually keep the carwale price evaluation as the benchmark, if cars24 manages to give a price at par then its a deal.

Vehicle inspection services

Does anyone know of a company who provides vehicle inspection services in Mumbai?

I read about VeriCar on the forum, and also that they had shut shop. I googled them, and found that they have resumed operations under a new management and website and boast of an impressive client list.

Does anyone have any experience with them, or with any other such service provider?

I want to really be sure before I make the purchase because I've had horrible luck with a second hand vehicle in the past. Alternatively, anyone who has any knowledge if Maruti does such checks for cars not bought through their second hand division?

Any help will be appreciated.

Yes, they do, and there are two ways of getting it done.

1. Drive the car you want to buy to any Maruti ASC and request the Service Manager to help you out. They generally do it FOC in 30 mins while you sip coffee.
2. Maruti ASCs officially check the condition and the history of the car upon the payment of INR 550.00 (I guess that is the amount). They dont give you anything in writing but a receipt for your payment and the report of the car verbally.

Hope this helps.

I sold my Innova around 4 month ago. Went in at 11 am and came out by 2.30 pm with the money in my Bank account. All that you mentioned is true. They evaluate the car thoroughly, click pictures, post them on their online auction and within 30 minutes, inform the highest bid. It is upto us, whether to accept or reject.
I personally felt that the price offered was low. Secondly, I went with the assumption that they would be better than brokers, who keep you hanging for transfer of ownership. These guys are similar. They give a printed out delivery note and the works, but even after 4 months the Transfer hasn't been done.

Used car inspection services

Hi bhpians,

I was curious what kind of inspection services you use for reliable and unbiased used car inspection.

There is one risk always, that is what if the mechanic is not thorough enough or, what if the mechanic turns out to be a friend of the seller and biased towards them? I am considering that if I book the inspection through a professional service (such as online) in case the inspection was done wrongly, I could pursue them to at least recover some damages. Thoughts?

I have shortlisted a few services during my research:
  • GoMechanic
  • Droom

In Kolkata, do you have knowledge any other reliable car inspection services?

Thanks

Note: Not a promotion, I am just doing a survey among the forum members.

In the basic plan an engineer will physically asses the car condition and will submit a report to the customer in 24hr.

Here is a sample report.
The link doesn't seem to work anymore :(

Hi
Even if you go with any of these organized players, you would still be in the hands of a mechanic. These branded players would outsource this to local mechs. As for recovery of anything, good luck with that!

If you have grown up in kolkata, am sure you would know garages, ask a mechanic to accompany you. Regardless of the source, you would have to take the final call yourself, so that risk will remain

I know as a matter of fact that they are a mixed bag. Some are very gentle. Some are crooked. I am also concerned that a local mechanic will ruin the sweet deal I cracked, and try to broker the car himself.

You are spot on though, most of these platforms are intermediaries. I'm really considering dropping the idea of buying used altogether. Can't trust anybody nowadays!

Any reliable mechanics that you know of, in Kolkata?
