Re: Datsun GO: A Close Look

Looks like a volvo met a liva.
Looks good, deinitely looks alright compared to the manifestations rolled out by the existing biggies.
But the interiors are SUCH a letdown. You may feel all well and mighty looking at it from the outside, but you better hope legislation brings back tints....you seriously dont want anybody to see what youre surrounded by, ensconced in the cheapness.

Apart from the gaps, and the "chindi-chori" that is apparent, what the hell is that thing in the middle with teh aux and usb slot? Is that a stereo?
Kudos to datsun for localizing indian content. That looks straight out of a shop in kashmere gate!

This is supposedly the rebirth of Datsun, innit? This was what you came up with?
Pity.

Looks like the interpreters and reviewers have goofed it up by calling it a head unit or ICE.

Datsun simply calls it a Mobile Docking station and nothing more.

Why get a music player just for your car, when you have all your favourite tunes on your device? With the Mobile Docking Station, you can simply use your accustomed device on the Datsun GO just like how you would at home. Now that’s being built with your lifestyle in mind.

However, the Datsun Go weighs much less (more than 125 kg less) than the Micra on which it is based. I wonder if it is going to be as safe as the Micra/Pulse/Micra Active?
IIRC, The Datsun GO is based on older generation Micra, or the current Micra platform modified. ACI did mention that the rigidity of platform might not be as good as Micra due to weight reduction procedure.

For me, safety is a compromise as compared to Micra, but at the same time, this also shows the lack of stiff govt. norms.
The product itself is good if its available really cheap, like in the range of Alto 800. The Micra active does confirm that the car has to be priced lower. Reasonable space utilization, long lasting underpinnings, supreme reliabiltiy are prime requirements which I believe this car could deliver.

The only remaining part is how it feels. The Alto 800 does not feel damn cheap or very basic/minimal. Eon makes Alto 800 feel spartan. Go has to beat them both I believe as the space does not happen to really exceptional. Minimal attitude beyond a limit does not help.

Re: Datsun GO: A Close Look

I can already see the 2014 NANO's advertisement saying - More car per car than a 4 lakh ruppee car!

What were they thinking. Like most have mentioned this looks cheap on the inside (where the buyer spends most time). But, the Indian market being as it is, never know!

Re: Datsun GO: A Close Look

One thing is not clear enough. Datsun is trying every steps at cost cutting. Then why do they want to provide unnecessary extension of the front seats if it is not meant for seating a third person? Couldn't they have saved some amount by not providing seat material there? Why do they want to go the old Amby Padmini way instead?

It's the location. Anybody peeping inside the car first time will definitely ask 'what's that audio system' ( HU / ICE )?

That "Mobile Docking station" - particularly the 'charging only' letters looks like very cheap print work, probably this 'station' cost couple of hundreds a piece for Datsun. They can just cover the hole with a blank, leaving the buyers to insert an after market version.

I seriously think it's a trap so people protest loudly about it more than any other 'cost-cutting' & finally when it's launched, this mid-variant will come with a proper (albeit cheap) HU. So it counts as they 'listened' to the public opinion.

Their accessory list (posted already in the thread) lists the HUs that are being offered in place of this. It includes Sony HUs as well, so its purely upto the user whether to throw this out and replace it with a proper HU. Giving a mobile holder for those who don't want an ICE HU isn't really something that we should hold against a manufacturer.

No, no, I saw the upside down pic of the usb port and thought that it would play music from the pen drives. But that's not the case as is evident from the replies on the thread.

Exactly. The whole setup is so crude, that it looks like an old walky talky set from an old antique police vehicle.

Re: Datsun GO: A Close Look

Micra Active is way better, in all respects and starts at 3.5L. Why bother launching this, unless they want to withdraw the Micra Active? Probably better margins must also be a good reason. After sales support is unknown - good that they arent going with Hoover, but how good?

I am sorry but this just doesnt make any sense.

Assuming GO+ is built on this, it seems squarely targeted towards the fleet owner segment :( Even the Enjoy would look/feel so much better, let alone Ertiga/Mobilio.

Probably the "feel" of an additional capacity matters more for the buyers of the segment and might work as a USP for GO. The cost factor may NOT be that higher since there is NO additional setup required for this extra protrusion.

This is correct. The 'availability' of extra space is very attractive to buyers in this segment. How this extra space is likley to be used - now this depends on the buyer and we have seen quite some varied opinions and suggestions on potential usage.
