I am so glad. The magazines can now write that bags and suitcases won't feel claustrophobic.

The car looks like a very good package. I can see a lot of bits from the Fiesta/ EcoSport in there.

No, if you notice, the fuel gauge is as big as the tachometer itself, which I find unusual.

Re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

interiors other than the dash are little to drab and do not gel well together at all.
especially the door pads in single colour is a big negative.

Re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

The Speed console reminds me of the 4th Gen Honda City Console.
Only difference is that the City was amber and the Aspire is White/Blue.

The interior colours would also be difficult to maintain and so is the boot carpet.
The boot size looks decent though and should be close to 400 lts.

Although Ford offers better handling, drivability and is feature rich. Pricing holds the key here with competitors like Dzire and Amaze sweeping the entry level sedan market.

Re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Figo Aspire was on display at EA Mall in Chennai, checked it out. Front seats comfy but probably a bit snug for other bigger frames. I am only 5'7"" but "healthily" built.

Rear leg room is good, but I found that the under thigh support was less due to the angle of the seat, rear seat is strictly for 2 passengers. Before I got in, a father and his teenaged son were on the rear seat and there was hardly any space in between them.

Boot release on the "right" side and electrically operated on the Titanium variant, tires were Amazer 3G, audio system sounded decent for an OEM unit.

What was jarring was the over enthusiastic guy in a Ford T-shirt inside the car using the word awesome about the car twice in every sentence.

Re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Saw this parked at Cyber Hub in Gurgaon today. It was better than I expected especially with the curtain airbags at this segment level. Driver and Passenger airbags will be standard across all variants. Really positive move by Ford. Rear seat legroom seemed good, better than the Figo it seems. The light colored interior gave it an airy feel, didn't really seem as small on the inside as it looked from outside. Felt slightly under-tyred. Overall if they price this well it should be a runaway success like the Ecosport considering its competition is Honda Amaze, Toyota Liva, Hyundai Xcent. It feels a segment above these cars on the inside.

Thanks for the pics @RavenAvi.
The boot looks alright for a compact sedan. It looks like it can easily take most of the airport luggage. And Thankfully, Ford has swapped the indicator and wiper stalks; this is much welcome.

Any idea what this marked pipe is for? The air intake one seems to be on the right just infront of the battery, running from the air filter to the turbo.

I believe that is the return pipe from the intercooler to the engine inlet. Unlike the 1.4 TDCi, this 1.5 TDCi has an intercooler.

At the right is the air intake & filter assembly, as you've rightly pointed out. The silver stuff in the middle is the turbocharger, and the inverted U-tube above it is the pipe from the compressor to the intercooler.

Re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Zigwheels has reported that the build quality of Aspire displayed at the malls is lighter than the current Figo model. Can anyone confirm the same?

Re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Grey one looks like a mid-variant.
Lighter build quality and 14" wheels all point towards bettering the FE which was a very sore point in the Figo petrol in addition to the power.

As long as the build quality betters Amaze and Dzire, it is acceptable to the customers. Dual airbags as standard is an excellent move. Kudos.

People often use the perception of lightness/heaviness of parts and sheet metal and door-closing feel etc to describe build quality and it is not necessarily correct nor technically sound.

For example:
Maruti cars feel light, and yes they have shabby build quality
VW cars feel solid and the build quality is relatively better
However Toyota cars feel light (esp lower end models like Etios) but the build quality is pretty good

The build quality might be worse than the Figo (or better) so-called 'lighter build' might also indicate improvements in technology with higher technology levels of metallurgy and newer manufacturing processes that enable the use of thinner/lighter materials with the same or better safety, rigidity and structural integrity levels.

Completely agreed with Chncar, lighter cars do not necessarily mean shoddy build quality. Most high-end cars have gone the carbon fibre way, to reduce resistance by doing away with unnecessary weight.

But what are the chances of the manufacturers in India, given that most of them are at similar price bandwidth, and evolution as far as technology is concerned to employ cutting age metallurgy and obtain lighter metal that gives similar, if not more, stability in crash scenarios.

The awkward and unfortunate truth of the current times is, that manufacturers often indulge in skimping the metal strength in order to eek out the last drop of mileage from their cars and also to reduce the bottom-line in the financial books. Given this scenario, I, as general car buyer, would like to believe that a heavier door means better build.
