re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Love the front and i actually like the notchback looking rear too. It beats the whole add a boot to the hatch look. And ford is probably being clever or trying to be clever by launching the CS before the hatch in trying to move away from people looking at it as just another hatch strapped with a boot. It worked for the zest, Maybe it will work for Ford too.

Good looking car (except the rear), hope ford gives enough importance it deserves in Indian market and not repeat the Ecosport story. This segment already has some serious players with big volumes, will wait and watch how Ford plays this part of the game.

I think only the Honda Amaze has a prominent rear that doesnt look compressed while the front is.
They could have done a notchback to differentiate.

re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Speculated engine and transmission details of the Ford Aspire.

Ford Figo Aspire to come with three-engine, two-transmission options -
More powerful versions of 1.5 diesel and Figo’s 1.2 diesel;1.5 petrol with 6-speed DSG.
Like with the Ecosport and Fiesta, the automatic Aspire will be powered by the larger 109bhp 1.5 Sigma engine mated to a six-speed twin-clutch auto transmission.

Quote:
The base model of the Aspire is expected with a 1.2-litre petrol which according to the company will set a benchmark in fuel efficiency. This 1.2 motor is the same Sigma engine in the previous Figo, but gets a four-valve head and twin camshafts with variable valve timing. The extra hardware is expected to boost power from 70bhp to close over 80bhp.

The diesel option in the Aspire is the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre DV5 motor which powers the Ecosport, but company sources have hinted that the Aspire’s diesel engine could have a slight increase in power and torque. Some sources say that power has been increased to 100bhp whilst the hatchback version will get the current 89bhp version. The increase in power hasn’t come at the cost of fuel efficiency and in fact the revised 1.5 diesel is understood to have even better efficiency than before.
The Aspire 1.5 auto is expected to be more expensive than its rivals, all of which are powered by 1.2 litre petrols which get a 12 percent excise advantage.

re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Overall package looks promising. Although rear design looks bit bald but it is not bad either when compared to Swift Dzire or Zest and unlike Brazilian model which is overall 4.2m length, Ford will chop off the boot to bring it under 4m which will make it more ugly.
When it comes to engine I am bit surprised 1.0 TiVCT being left out. Although 80bhp engine is a naturally aspirated one but on performance and on paper it is way above the one we are getting .

I do agree with you on this one. The rear is bland when compared to the front. Maybe its the picture making it look worse that it actually is. I do not like that chrome strip. A clearer picture might change opinions.
And C'mon, those tail lights on the Zest are way too XXL sized for that rear. A more sleeker unit would've done the job!
Lol

It's not like that mate actually. In fact I am the one who like Ford's cars and do wish to buy one for myself in future. I used my X Boss car way back in 2000, which was Diesel Ford Escort. It was way to good car considering those years when India didn't have many good cars. Turbo kick i experienced first time in that car. It was good handler too. My close friend has Ford Figo with him for four years and I drove it multiple times. I used to like the way it used to run on the highways. Only things i hated in it was ingress and outgress was not easy and at the back you don't have power windows.

I would like Ford to launch good models in India for us. IMHO they are good car maker but fails in understanding Indian mentality. They should learn from Hyundai. It will make them better

This seems to be true at-least for 1.5 Sigma. The Ford KA+ in Brazil is powered by 1.5 Sigma delivers 110BHP. It is evident from Ford Brazil official website and here is the LINK

Need to wait and watch how much 1.5 diesel is going to deliver?

Cheers!

re: Ford's new Car & Engine plant at Sanand, Gujarat

That right there is the face of a winner, which it will be only if Ford-India doesn't pull off the another long waiting list debacle like the Ecosport. This car hitting the showrooms before the festive season will sell good if they can take advantage of the initial rush and impulse buyers. Looks like its not lean and narrow like the Xcent, which is good and with decent build quality and a new engine (?) this thing will surely shake up the compact sedan segment.

re: Ford's new Car & Engine plant at Sanand, Gujarat

Somehow I feel By looking at the Pictures that the car looks well proportional and attractive.
I hope that Ford does not mess up with the pricing of this decent looking vehicle.
Ecoboost 1.0 should come definitely in the market ASAP as it is well ahead (performance wise as per my thinking ) than the Revotron present in the zest.
Considering its a Ford, build quality will be good & driving it will bring a smile on the face.
Eagerly waiting for the launch & Test Drive.

re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Am I dreaming???

Take a close look at this picture:

Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire-image.jpg

Is this the first Ford in India to have the extremely welcome RHD control stalks i.e. the headlamp and turn indicator controls on the right stalk and the wiper and washer controls on the left stalk?

Clearly, the left control stalk in the picture seems to have the wiper and washer controls (including the intermittent wipe adjust feature).

If my eyes aren't deceiving me, then Ford India is finally on the right track by providing the much needed RHD control stalks! And those first-in-class 6 airbags! I think Ford isn't going to sit back and relax when they launch the new Figo twins. They are certainly going to aim for a top 5 position on the monthly sales chart.

Request to Mr. Mark Fields, Global CEO, Ford Motor Company - kindly give the person whose idea it was to provide RHD controls a nice pay raise. And another fat one to the person who pushed for the inclusion of 6 airbags. They deserve it thoroughly indeed!

re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

For those who are complaining about the rear - I think there's very little chance a car can look good if it has to:
1) Offer so much space inside
2) Looks like sedan, i.e. have a proper boot, not an elongated hatch
3) Less than 4 meters.

Even the Zest, which in my opinion, the best of the lot, doesn't look that good from rear. One of the options is to make it look like the SRV to get the big boot, but none will buy because it's not a sedan.

You have a very keen eyesight! I didn't notice it before but yes, it does look like the wiper controls on the left stalk. Very happy to see they have fixed that

re: Ford's new Car & Engine plant at Sanand, Gujarat

I hope the Figo "Aspire" lives up to Ford's aspirations. Does it go the EcoSport way or the Figo way is what we need to wait and see. I hope this time at least Ford concentrates on the local market rather shipping out majority of the Aspires outside. And will Aspire be able to grab a piece of the market considering they have to contend with DZire, Amaze, Excent and Zest? Ford, as usual, is a late entrant to the segment. I suspect the initial buzz will get Ford some numbers but then it will take the Figo route: stabilize at around 2500-3500 per month.

re: Ford's new Car & Engine plant at Sanand, Gujarat

This is one of the first Ford products I would consider buying myself. The pricing will be key.

If you notice, the sub 4M sedans are almost at a price band where the likes of the City/Vento/Verna were just 3-4 years back. So am guessing anyone who has a budget of 10L is going to look a lot harder at going for an Aspire/Amaze/Zest/Dzire than stretch the budget to 12L to look at a City/Verna etc.
