If these pieces are customizable am all for it But I doubt, its the case. I don't want this as a reason to reject in an otherwise impressive car, as I am one of prospective buyers.

Interiors were one of the biggest brickbats Etios twins received even though they were mechanically sound. I don't want Tata to start their launch of a new model with a reason to reject, when they are several thousand miles behind the competition.

The orange inserts don't look all that bad in person. I had a look at the interiors during the Zest plant visit. Though it must be a preproduction vehicle, the color wasn't all that repulsive. If any thing it brightens up the interiors a little. Much better combo than say, beige black. IIRC even Figo used to come with some weird dash colors.

Re: On the Tata Bolt Hatchback

Overdrive seems to be very impressed with the Bolt.
  1. The car has elements of the Indica, but looks good from the outside, save the view from the back, IMO.
  2. The inside is similar to the Zest mostly.
  3. It appears that Tata is planning to reduce the power on the Revotron to 85 PS from 90 on the Zest.
  4. Tata Motors have tweeked the gear ratios and gear box for a peppier response for the petrol.
  5. The engine bay appears cramped from the picture gallery
  6. The suspension is "an independently setup MacPherson system with an anti-roll bar" both at the front and the rear.
I am looking forward to see how the Bolt does. These cars are going to set the near future up for Tata Motors till the come up with completely new cars on new platforms.

Re: On the Tata Bolt Hatchback

Exciting preview... What Tata Bolt needs to be is peppy to drive!

With the new Swift update showing very clearly that only cosmetic changes Suzuki will continue to rip us Indian's!

No new information there. We already knew all that. Only thing we don't know for sure is the launch date which still remains a mystery as they already have the car in hand, holding the launch for this long is something I don't understand.
Also, if somebody could confirm for sure the bhp numbers for the Bolt Revotron, 90 or 85, it would help.

Re: On the Tata Bolt Hatchback

I don't think Tata will put orange dashboard in production version. I will prefer same from Zest which is black & beige combo. I would prefer full black as an option as well. Car looks good in photos. I liked it better than Zest to be frank. Zest looks odd from some angles but not this one. Rear is simple but still elegant, much better than previous Indica. Considering Zest pricing, i am sure they will price this very aggressively too. Hope they will continue good things from Zest like basic model is also well equipped with so many features including Alloys. With good aggressive pricing i hope they will do good numbers. They need to improve their A.S.S. & marketing ASAP though.

(Removed the video here)
What makes me all the time is that absolutely everyone at Tata Motors when interviewed makes the effort to say "We started with the Zest & then after it was all finalized, we derived the hatchback from the compact sedan".

Obviously it is one of the directives to the teams to say things like that so as to try and make both these cars look like absolutely new creations.

But they who are they kidding? Themselves perhaps? The HB and CS from a body-shell perspective are the good old Vista. It doesn't take an auto designer to spot that. Yes the underpinnings like power plants and suspension setup are much different - absolutely agreed. The driving experience and pleasure is much better - agreed again.

But then - only launching the Bolt after the Zest doesn't really support their claim that the Zest was conceived earlier. The Bolt runs with different tail lamps, headlamps and slightly different door creases as the Vista since 6 years now. (So does the Manza, but then the visual difference between Zest and Manza is much more than that in the Bolt and Vista.)

It may be optional, just like how it was in the Figo.
Bolt seems to be a neat package, it all boils down to the pricing now.

Don't worry about pricing dude. Look at the Zest pricing, its very competitive. In fact its great when you compare what it offers at that price. So Bolt pricing will be on similar lines only. My guess is it will be 50 K less model to model than Zest. That makes it real VFM package. If it is more than that then it becomes steal deal

Mahindra has been having a similar theme running for the Scorpio of different interior colours depending on the exterior (I think its even extended to the XUV500 as well)

Re: On the Tata Bolt Hatchback

I saw the Bolt at the toll naka on the e-way. Looked way better than the zest with the wheel wells filled and more balanced rear. Zest seems to be sitting on stilts with a very awkward rear and skinny tyres

Actually its not due to the skinny tyres( in fact the tyre spec is best in the segment ), its due to the short track length at the rear in comparison to the body width.

@narayan
Like you said it's a perspective issue. Looks odd in my opinion. Bolt looks more matured and sits better

Yep, Mahindra offers 2 interior combinations in the XUV - Black and Walnut. Walnut is available in black and white exterior colours whereas Black interior is there is all the other colour options.
But I was referring to something like what is available in cars like the Renault Clio or VW Up in Europe. A red exterior colour car has a red dashboard, blue has blue interior and so on.

Although it doesn't seem likely now with all the new test-drive reports and spy shots that have been coming in.
