re: On the Tata Bolt Hatchback

Was checking out the Harman infotainment system video and saw (at 5:57) this Kooltunes app made for Indian target audience that is available on the Harman Club platform. Can't wait to see the functionalities of the infotainment unit.

Which brings us to the other question, was there an NDA at another test-drive? If there was, I'm guessing we don't get to find out which one, but at least then we know if there was actually something to the whole story.

I suspect the infotainment in Tata Zest is derivative of Android or the platform in video you posted.

Balenos, I am not really counting on the 'best price' for this car, BTW, it is an LXi, pearl silver, done about 1L KM and we are second owners, one more glitch, it is Delhi registered and I need a dealer in UP to take it, I don't know how it would even work. Also, before proceeding to Zest's delivery, don't the dealer people like to evaluate the exchange car? I can only give them the old :

Call a trusted friend who can take the baleno saying that he needs it for some reason. He can drive it down to the dealership and get a quote. Take pics when quote is taken. Post on some sites to find best price. You might just find some enthusiast who wants to buy it. .

Once the dealer okays it you can exchange it in a couple of days and buy the zest.

Most probably the unit uses QNX (read somewhere) as it facilitates very easy connectivity with other electronic controllers on board a vehicle.

I really appreciate the prompt response buddy. Problem is that my parents moved to Mathura just the last year and I am in Bangalore for last 3 years, so got no friends in Mathura. I can post about the car on olx etc but the prospect buyer has to be inside a small radius which limits options and again, he would want to see the car in person, so not possible.
Can the dealer not agree to take the old car one or two days before the day of delivery? Can the old car be adjusted against the 15-20% of on road of the new one which is left after bank's 80-85%?

What blanket statement i made ? I only mentioned what i saw in an online review (ET i think), that Zest AMT doesnt come with driver seat height adjust and driver power window auto down.

Its a pity, since cars like Xcent and Amaze comes with these features even in mid variants.

Low, Mid and High are actually price points! More so in the volume segment. Feature content has to be judiciosly chosen to match the price points.

Aren't we comparing apples and oranges here? Simply because none of the cars mentioned actually have a diesel AMT version?

If we are to go by your reasoning & Tata do have a manual mid-variant with driver's seat height adjustment wouldn't they have covered the bases WRT competition variants?

Also variants and kit do undergo changes between First Drives & launch versions, case in point being the rather OTT wood fascia on the Mobilio dashboard.

At the end of the day it just boils down to priorities, there are reports that the AMT Zest has ABS as standard whereas the Xcent only offers it as an option on it's mid variant. The Dzire mid variant doesn't have ABS even as an option, the Amaze though has it as standard, go figure.

Ensure ownership transfer whether exchanging with dealer or selling to an individual. Check the how to sell a used car thread for some tips on ensuring ownership transfer when selling to a dealer.

A different advice. Ignore if you don't have anyone in Delhi who can keep the car for you.

If its Delhi registered, sync up with some relative or friend in Delhi and post an ad. Prospective buyer may inspect it at your relative's premises. When something is finalized, drive down to Delhi, complete the transfer formalities at the RTO and drive back. Much more easier than trying to sell an out-of-state car to a dealer. You will be assured of ownership transfer if you sell it yourself, plus get a better deal. With dealers this is always shady.

Driver seat height adjust is a very basic feature.

I expect a lot of potential buyers of the Zest AMT to be females. Seat height adjust is something the ladies will appreciate a lot.

And some people have taken offensive to my raising questions on a missing feature. Guys, who knows, TATA might just end up providing this basic feature after the feedback they receive before launch. I see no reason why we shouldn't positively criticize car manufacturers - that too even before the product is launched.

I do NOT think that he has made any statements which warrant a response like yours. He has asked a question and did NOT make a statement.

We really need to stop getting worked up on every not-so-positive statement about Zest or TATA cars for that matter. Lets appreciate where credit is due and also welcome the improvement points.

The same way, Xcent has a much weaker engine & Amaze has a spartan low cost interior. We can't really expect everything to be in the Zest and still be priced great. So there will be some deletions that's inevitable; though I agree it would have been a good feature to have.

As of now, my preference is Zest over Xcent or Amaze or even Dzire, for my needs.

Tata Zest to come with 3 + 3 years warranty, 3 years maintenance package & 24 x 7 call center with nationwide Road-Side assistance. Will be offered as a very good deal initially.

Hi, there was no offence meant anywhere, if I did offend you I do apologise, that was never the intention. But the thing is, on what are we basing statements like 'potential buyers will be females'? I don't thing there is any data to support that.

Also the difference here is in terms point of view, personally I look to reserve my opinion till I see the final product - across industries & segments - that having being said, I can appreciate where you're coming from even though I don't quite agree with it.

Tata was among the first companies to bring seat height adjust to their hatchback cars (research when we bought the Vista 4+ years ago). But it wasnt really appreciated by many. Frankly most people don't even know its use and other than the enthusiast / people in the know, very few care. As is the wont in India - we will 'adjust'. A small pillow or cushioned seat cover or something else will surely be ready in the aftermarket.
