As for the 2016 model, I think it looks a lot better than the F10 but its really time they did something with the interiors. Atleast change the gear lever.
BMW interiors are a big big let down compared to Merc and Audi who have both taken the bar up really high. I recently test drove a 2016 X5 to replace my raging 2007 X5. The interiors of the new car were almost identical to my old one. Even the dealer didn't know what to say.

re: The next-gen BMW 5-Series (G30). EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49.90 lakh

2017 BMW 5-Series leaked ahead of world debut

A set of images that are being claimed to showcase the all-new 2017 BMW 5-Series have surfaced on the Internet. The car is expected to make its global premiere tomorrow, while a European launch will take place in early 2017.

The new BMW 5-Series is built on the German automaker's CLAR (CLuster ARchitecture) rear-wheel drive platform. This is the same platform that also underpins the new-gen BMW 7-Series. According to the leaked images, the new 5-Series appears to be a compact version of the 7-Series. It gets a wide kidney grille, which connects to the headlight assemblies on either side.

The interiors too appear to be inspired by the 7-er. A new steering wheel, a fully-digital instrument cluster, and the floating i-Drive monitor are the major elements visible in the image leaked. Features on offer will likely be borrowed from the flagship sedan as well.

BMW is expected to equip the new 5-Series with petrol and diesel engines, with a displacement ranging from 2.0-litre to 4.4-litre. These engines will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Further details about the new BMW 5-Series will be revealed tomorrow, i.e., October 13 2016.

Does anyone feel the rear similar looking to the Ciaz. The new 5 does not make anyone feel the urge/greed to update. BMWs are becoming boring / non-innovative on the design front.

re: The next-gen BMW 5-Series (G30). EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49.90 lakh

The new 5 misses out on the wow factor in images much like the new 7. But it will look the part in person i feel. The subtle changes in body character lines and some new design elements from the 7 will show when you see it on the road.
Overall, the current 5 still looks the part and the new 5 is expected to freshen up its appeal. A drastic redesign was unnecessary and even foolish. Glad BMW didn't do so. Volvo needed a fresh lease of life, they redesigned. Jaguar like BMW didn't and hence the new XF with subtle changes. Mercedes needed to be more dynamic and hence the entire lineup went through a drastic design change.

I quite like the rear of the new 5-series. The blackened lower portion on the rear bumper looks pretty good. Seems like the screen in the middle of the dashboard has gesture control.

re: The next-gen BMW 5-Series (G30). EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49.90 lakh

2017 BMW 5-Series makes global debut

The new-gen 2017 BMW 5-Series sedan has officially been revealed. The car will be making its first public appearance at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. This marks the introduction of the seventh-generation of the 5-Series moniker.

Aesthetically, the new 5-Series appears to be an evolution of its predecessor's design language. Multiple cues have also been borrowed from its elder sibling, the BMW 7-Series. The new 5-er has slightly grown in dimensions. It is 36 mm longer, 6 mm wider, and 2 mm taller than the model it replaces. The new car's dimensions stand at 4935 mm X 1868 mm X 1466 mm (L x W x H). The wheelbase too has been scaled up by 7 mm, as it now measures 2975 mm.

The new 5-Series is built on BMW's Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, which also underpins the latest-gen 7-Series. Built using light-weight, high-strength materials like aluminium, the CLAR platform has helped the 5-Series to be around 100 kgs lighter than its predecessors.

On the inside, the increased dimensions have resulted in a relatively spacious cabin. The legroom, shoulder room and head room available for rear occupants is claimed to be improved. Features on offer include Head-Up Display (HUD), latest-generation BMW iDrive system with gesture controls and a 10.25-inch touchscreen display, massage function for the rear seats, wireless charging, and Intelligent Voice Assist.

The new 5-Series also hosts various semi-autonomous technologies. These include Lane Change Assistant, Lane keeping assistant with active side collision protection, crossing traffic warning, and an optional Active Cruise Control (ACC) system. The car is equipped with a stereo camera, radar, and ultrasound sensors to monitor the conditions around it.

The seventh-generation BMW 5-Series will be offered with 2 petrol and 2 diesel engine options. Petrol options include a 2.0-litre, 4 cylinder unit that develops 248 BHP and 350 Nm of torque, and a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder mill that generates 335 BHP and 450 Nm of torque. Diesel duties are taken care of by a 2.0-litre engine rated at 188 BHP and a peak torque of 400 Nm and a 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit that churns out 261 BHP and 620 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox.

The 2017 BMW 5-Series will go on sale in European markets in February 2017. Expect it to be launched in India during the next-year itself as the company has already imported the new models for homologation.

I actually like it, it gives it a more sporty look compared to the luxury one. Interiors look a step above the current one and I do think the rear will look much much better in person. The only think I don't like is the Hyundai type lights below the front lights.

Oh also they have continued the 188 bhp engine from the current 5/3 into this one.

Wow. This car looks amazing. Even though the design was kind of expected (taking cues from 7 series and 3 series), it is going to look much pretty in person and will have an amazing road presence.

Can't wait to experience both 5 & E. It's going to be a tough choice choosing the winner between the two. Any timeline on when both of them will be launched in India?

I like it a lot. It grows on you.

Its got quite a gangsta feel to it, a more modern, taut'esque Maserati!!

I am sure it would look awesome in person.

The 7 looks wicked in person.

re: The next-gen BMW 5-Series (G30). EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49.90 lakh

Can live with the side & rear profiles, but the front is way too quirky for my tastes. I hate the design direction that BMW is adopting (starting with the new 7-Series).

Am wondering if this is an all-new car? Took a detailed look at all the pictures and the structures of the G30 & F10 sure seem awfully similar to me (in fact, identical from many angles). Take a look at comparison pics here.

BMW has only marginally increased the wheelbase. Unfortunate as I don't think the rear bench space problem would be solved.

I feel that the front end has lost the elegance it once had. The new Beemers are coming with a more butch front look, which I feel is more suited to an SUV, not a sedan.

I had a similar feeling when Skoda launched the facelift Laura. The car looked more muscular from the front, but lost its elegant yet sporty charm.

One of the most appealing things in a BMW was the kidney bean grill. Its not being used effectively in their modern designs. They could make them little upright/aggressive and separate them from the head lights.
They should package their engine compartments better (for such long bonnets) and liberate more space on the interior. They used to talk about putting the wheels on the far corners as unique which again is absent with such overhangs.

I think they really ought to make some changes in the dash layout. It is indeed becoming too monotonous to see the same design in every car from their stable. Also the speedometer needs to change from analogue to digital. The ICE layout is also quite useless now with too many buttons which do not really serve much purpose.
