Re: The next-generation Ford Endeavour. EDIT: Now spotted testing in India

Fortuner as always being a Toyota product, will stand at its number one position in India.

I expect Ford product to chase the Toyota brand and would be a close second in terms of sales volumes.

Chevrolet Trailblazer, with close resemblance to the current generation Fortuner will be "also ran" product.

The only way to catch up with the Fortuner is to beat it in price and a VFM package.

Re: The next-generation Ford Endeavour. EDIT: Now spotted testing in India

If true ford is not doing themselves any favors. And if true i just went from " Ford take my money" to " Toyota ... How you doin!!!" (In joey voice from friends)

So as per NDTV we will be getting the current 2.5 and 3.0 engines and not the new 2.2 and 3.2.

Quote:
Though the 2015 Endeavour will get 2 engine options - a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel and a 3.2-litre 5-cylinder diesel engine - internationally, the India-bound model will get the existing 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre diesel units. Furthermore, Ford might replace the existing 5-speed manual and automatic gearboxes with a 6-speed transmission to better the SUV's fuel economy and performance. Ford will most probably price the new Endeavour SUV between Rs. 20 lakh - Rs. 25 lakh.

B.B

Let me contradict it 😬.
The Endeavours imported to India are having the new 2.2 and 3.2 litre engines.
And to pacify you a bit more these auto journalist have pointed out wrong info inthe past too.
Eg Toyota Fortuner to get 1KD FTV in the 187bhp tune.

Do we know if the new Ford Endeavour will have creature comforts like sunroof, cruise control, paddle shifts and the like? One of the 'spy' websites claimed it comes with a panoramic roof.

Agree that the digital fuel gauge looks a bit gimmicky in a SUV but the interiors are smart! The dashboard top looks to have leather which will obviously be chucked out for the Indian variant but even without the leather, the dash looks really smart. Leagues ahead of the current Endeavour.

However, the Fortuner will continue to rule this segment even if it's priced about 4-5 lakhs more then the Ford. Still, I expect this new one to do much better then the current Endeavour at the box office.

PS: Damn that steering wheel is full of buttons!

looking at Toyota's aggressive marketing strategy for Hilux in Thailand ,i doubt Ford should be able to achieve decent sales even in India.

"TMT (Toyota Motor Thailand) has already started production of the new Hilux Revo, and reports state that the first batch is on its way to dealerships nationwide. Toyota intends to start sales of the new Hilux immediately after its unveiling it appears."

http://indianautosblog.com/2015/05/2...#ixzz3afvnOYpk

I'm hoping Toyota will continue the same strategy for New fortuner as well.

Re: The next-generation Ford Endeavour. EDIT: Now spotted testing in India

Having read a lot on the Endeavour in the Australian (where it was designed) media, seems like the full fledged variants will be competing against the like of the Toyota Prado and Jeep GC. And the smaller 2.2L engine with fewer goodies will be competing against the new Fortuner (current Fortuner was not sold in Australia).

This coupled with the fact that some media outlets are saying that in India the older engines will be retained (Another one), one can only speculate that we will not be getting some of the more premium features. Most likely to undercut the fortuner price and compete directly with it.

Hope i am wrong!

And this is where they will go wrong IMHO. For more, please read here

Ford is an acceptable brand as far as SUV goes, both EcoSport & Endeavor put up very good sales. Some may feel Ford might not be able to sell a 30-40L SUV [I am not saying to price the Endeavour at 30+] but I think, if they are a bit aggressive and take their service aspect more seriously [top management takes it very seriously, have personal experience] there is a market for a SUV at 30-40L. Maybe launch a stripped down version, with less cubic capacity and MT at a lower price and full bells & whistle at a premium price.

When a hatch can sell at 10L, when a good cross over can be priced at 20-22L, why expect a full size SUV with quite a lot of features [some being segment first] at 25L?

But please Ford, do not go overboard with prices.

IMHO the Indian car market is still very immature. Its a combination of lack of knowledge of the aam janta, compounded by set in stone perceptions of brands and this unending addiction to the term "VFM". Which i believe is great if you are looking for an inexpensive car but the moment you cross that 20L mark you should be looking for a "good deal" and not "VFM". You could argue that my statements are skewed because we are a poorer country and the majority of sales will be of under 10L mark.

Even on this forum i have read statements along the line "At 40L its prices are the same as the C Class and for it to sell they have to price it better". Well in most countries mid size SUV's (Prado, Explorer, Pathfinder, Pilot, Montero, Durango) are direct competition to C -Class, 3 Series, A4 and so on for cross shoppers. They don't want to price it close to the entry level luxury brands, it just costs that much to build with all that equipment (Plus stupid tax system we have). To get the same cars as EU or US we will have to pay the same, even Americans and Europeans want VFM, but are ready to pay for it when they know its worth it!

I would be extremely happy to get my hands on the fully loaded version if available to us mere mortals for around 35L ex-showroom. Ford knows how to build trucks and they last. I would keep it for at least 15-20 years and use it appropriately over its age. Lets see perhaps Ford will surprise us yet!

PS. Toyota be crazy with Prado pricing. I was contemplating last year to buy one just to import it into India as returning NRI and sell it. Decided against the hassle, mostly because of time consumption and one year capital tie up.

Cheers

Wow, I must say not to greedy pricing. I am now seriously hopeful of the Titanium (O) version being less than 30Lacs
