I personally experienced the amount of space in the new Octavia and the current A4 and would have to say the Octavia is actually even more spacious than the A4.

So to say A3 is an Octavia DSG in a fancy dress is already an over statement. It is more or a "mini Octavia in a fancy dress" - at a 50% higher price.

The only way I see for Audi to rake up decent numbers in our space-obsessed market is to launch at a really mouth watering price point - say Rs. 21 or 22 lacs ex-showroom.
The A3 is effectively a Golf - both on MQB platform, almost identical in dimensions, and infact have identical wheelbase. On length this should be closer to a Vento but much wider (probably wider than the Jetta).

If you compare with the other cars on the same platform from VAG stable (say the Octavia), the A3 definitely look like a small toy, but you are paying for the brand premium. Almost every small Audi will have a connection to its lesser siblings, but that does not really dilute its value IMO (Polo -> A1, Golf -> A3, Yeti -> Q3 etc.).

Personally I liked the clean lines and mature looks of the A3 sedan compared to its immediate competition - the Mercedes CLA.

I am told that the A3 is going to launch with a starting price of 23.xx lakhs. If Audi can price it accordingly, it will definitely grab a good market share as customers of Octavia, Jetta, Elantra might just want to spend a little more and own an Audi.

I love this car and the only thing i find astonishingly missing are the paddle shifts. Come on Audi, why leave out important things such as this which could have made the A3 so much more appealing??? I would have bought this i swear. It adds a lot of character and fun to the car.

I wish that were true mate. I don't see it being priced at 23xx !!
I am expecting a price of 27.99xx and On Road price of 30+.

Why is the steering so different compared to the European and US version??? We get the ugly 4 spoke and they get the nice looking sporty 3 spoke. Why does India get all the downgraded or outdated stuff always??? And i know i said it before, Where are the paddle shifts Audi ????

All they need to say is, this is a VW Jetta TDI DSG/Octavia TSI DSG in a fancy frock (which to my eye isn't as pretty) and suckers for the badge can definitely pay a good 10 lakhs above the pricetag and can enjoy mentioning at parties that they drive an Audi.

Awaiting an unbiased review from our Team-BHP folks to actually figure if this car is actually any different from the ones I just mentioned.

Regards,
I don't know to what level that review has been bought, maybe it has, maybe it hasn't. But the A3 is a pretty accomplished car from what all the international reviews say as well.

Check out all the international reviews of the car and you'll find Auto Express, TFL CAR, and many others all singing praises for it. And don't forget they have a much better and wider range of options for much cheaper to the A3 in their countries.

Even US reviewers like the car. America! A market obsessed with size, likes it. Can't really be that bad, can it?

Both will be a simple swap. You can get the 3 spoke with paddles, just order it off the internet and it will be plug and play. Some coding may be needed, but its definitely possible.

somewhat agree, they were even telling an ex-showroom price of 28L is very good. And while the omission of an auto-folding outside rearview mirror is clearly mentioned in the list, there is no complaint made about it. Come-on, honda amaze has it.

Audi will be changing the nomenclature on its models with the launch of the A3 in India.

Source: http://www.motorbeam.com/cars/audi-n...ture-to-india/

Quote:
The A3 sedan gets the 2.0-litre TDI engine under the hood and the same badge denoting the engine spec is found on the rear boot-lid. However, as per the new nomenclature, the A3 gets a new ’35 TDI’ badge that replaces the ‘2.0 TDI’ badge at the rear. The 2.0-litre TDI is tuned to offer different outputs depending on the model and that does not reflect in the current badging system. On the A3 petrol variant, the 1.8 TFSI badge has been replaced by 40 TFSI.

It seems they are just trying to obfuscate the engine/transmission sharing issue across VAG brands with some unrelated numbers. After all, Audi wouldn't want a customer walking in and asking "Why should I buy an A3 and not an Octavia?"

The A3 would also feature Auto folding mirrors. In a video review by Autoportal India, in one of the frames they show the mirror adjustment button and it clearly had the auto folding feature. I am attaching the video for reference, check it out
