Wow! Thanks for the info. Some (obvious) inferences

1. Looking at the engine number (starting with K14B), it is safe to conclude that the petrol will be the 1.4L K Series from the Ertiga. This dashes my last hope that Maruti will plonk in a more powerful engine (M16A).

2. Price difference between MT and AT is 65k which sounds reasonable to me. Can experts comment if the AT will be sluggish with a 1.4L engine?

3. Looking at the petrol motor, it is safe to assume that Maruti will just go with the 1.3L MJD in 90 BHP tune

Even if Maruti prices aggressively, will this segment buyers be ready to overlook the relatively smaller displacement engines and and the tremendous value that the City badge carries?

Looking at choosing between the Ciaz and Honda City myself for my next car, the engines are a big disappointment

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

If we look at the history of SX4, it was priced way below the then existent Honda city and Verna. The top end version was close to a lakh lesser than the mid end Honda city, with equipment levels which was nowhere matched by the top of the line city.

Also, the honda city had a better quality overall. But the sweet pricing and package made the SX4 sell quite a lot in the years 2007-2011. It was later that sales dropped due to multiple reasons.

Now, Honda isn't excelling in quality IMO with the new city compared to the outgoing city. Though equipment levels increased, quality didn't. Guess the Ciaz can at least match this quality if not better. Hence, with a good price package, it can sell some numbers if not a blockbuster since the Ertiga swallows a lot of customers from the SX4 just because of the two extra seats feeling.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

I found this comparison today from another website. The specs show that the Ciaz has a bigger petrol engine , however I doubt the same. Strictly IMO going by the face and the dimensions I loved the Ciaz more. Iam not an expert on suspension at the same time we are not sure if they would be offering the same suspension as mentioned here , however I would request experts to pitch in which is a better suspension. If the interiors look and feel the same as in the spy pictures , then this car is sure to make a big statement to its competition both Verna & City.
I agree that the engine specs may not interest all.Egarly waiting for the launch and the review. I can definitely say that Honda by stalling the City production has opened a new window for people to think and look towards this new option.

The lighter shade gets the cars size in reality whereas the darker one doesn't show the size of the car (length mostly).

Looks are clean and neutral while losing out on the 'Men are back' theme from the SX4. Reminds me of the Vento and Cruze from certain angles.

Has the A-Star not been discontinued abroad? Based on the above pic.

Seems like a well-balanced, proportionate, low-slung sedan (Civic style is back on road!), but spoiled the frontal looks with the overdose of chrome. Let's wait and see how it will look on road.

Agree with you. Today I first time saw the scoop pictures posted in this thread and got disappointed after seeing whats coming as a final product. The actual car is completely different and feeling downmarket compared to what was shown at the Expo

Is that the bakers chocolate in the background of the first pic? Glistening grey is looking really nice on this car!

Edit: never mind! Just saw the new post

Wish the grille wasn't chrome, but that can be fixed. Lovely bumper though.

Was expecting the 1.6L Diesel. Eager to see how the 1.3 MJD VGT will perform.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

So Maruti is playing safe here by putting standard, tried and tested readily available engines for Ciaz. Not a bad move IMHO. It will make sure that maruti will launch it at very competitive price compared to City & Verna. If they price it lesser than city by say 50-70 K ex showroom, it will be great option for buyers. For a normal buyer Ciaz will be a good option as its basically a Maruti. Average person will not care how much horse power it has. For him, its a Maruti & that's all. DDiS is a well proven engine and score on many points over other competition in many departments. Its very fuel efficient as well. Also service is available for it on every corner, so that's a big plus IMO. 1.4 K series petrol engine is also not bad & will do better here than Ertiga for sure due to cars dynamics & lesser weight (hopefully).

Maruti has one more winner in hand, lets see how they price it. Eagerly waiting for launch. I heard it is on 23 August, is it true??
