re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

The car looks fabulous - long, wide & proportionate, a sleek silhouette, nice big alloys, good GC and an adequately meaty rear bumper (the last two being absolutely essential for India). Even the chrome highlights are neatly done and look excellent, especially on darker colours. It looks like body-coloured mud-flaps are a standard feature.

One thing I don't see anywhere in the pictures is the antenna - where is it? Does it come with an internal antenna?

The interior design is also very neatly executed, much better than the outgoing SX4 and the rear bench appears to be spacious & supportive. Only the touch-screen music system does not appeal to me, may be because I personally prefer the meatiness of knobs and buttons as far as cars are concerned.

A big thumbs-up to the features list! Electrically-retractable mirrors, rear A/C vent with twin adjusters, rear power outlet, centre armrests at the front & rear, Bluetooth enabled audio with steering controls, a navigation system, true keyless entry, push button start, roll up/down sun blinds, electro-chromic IRVM and (presumably) a rear camera too. This has got to be the most well equipped car to come out of the Maruti Suzuki stables (excluding the imported Suzukis). I wish they had provided rear adjustable neck-restraints and 6 airbags as optional.

The engines seem to be okay. Given the light weight, I think performance should be adequate with both engines. If they've worked on the turbo lag, the DDiS may turn out to be quicker than cars like the Fiesta, Sunny/Scala and of course, the Linea diesels. If the suspension & steering are like those on the Swift, the Ciaz may do to the Linea what the Swift does to the Punto.

I guess the CIAZ has a glass antenna printed on the rear glass much the same like it was in the SX4.

Cheers

11.3 seconds for 0-100, that too with the same 90hp engine that takes around 15 seconds in my hatchback?

And 26.21 kmpl!

Suzuki sure knows how to tune and engine properly and devise proper gear ratios for it!

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

The rear and side profile looks stunning, the front could have been better. Nonetheless, Maruti has a clear winner.

I understand the need for a better, bigger, VFM proposition from Maruti being a late comer into the segment bandwagon but having said that an additional engine option for the enthusiasts could have added more spice.
1.4 petrol for a car of this size will just be drivable. it wont bring any wow factor to the spirited souls.

Not sure about the City, but Verna will have to bite the dust again unless Hyundai comes up with a more VFM package. Well, I am a bit sceptical now about Honda City too, Indians trust everything that comes from Maruti's plates.

Seriously CrAzY dRiVeR I couldn't possibly agree more with you man.

I mean, how does Suzuki manage these figures with a Bigger Car but the same 90hp Engine from Fiat.

Maruti have not built Ciaz in Plastic have they ??

OT - I can only imagine what a Swift with 1.3 MJD in 90HP tune will dish out. It will probably be faster than the GT Brothers !!

Can not see any outside antenna stick or Shark fin. Wonder what it is? Also, Can't get a view of boot yet.

Any idea delivery dates?

Well Well!! this looks exciting with "Kitna deti hai" Maruti venturing in to new segment with neutral looking car loaded with features. I am sure this car will appeal to masses if not "live to drive" folks. Plus this "BIG" looking car with frugal efficient engine will surely pull more customers.

Pricing is going to be key. i hope pricing wont be Mobilio-us

PS: For people cribbing about under powered engine, we do have tuners/remapping specialist for "national engine".

It is a thin metal strip embedded in the glass which acts as the antenna, like the rear-defroster.

Autocar has an image of the boot.

Is it only me or others feel that the Ciaz resembles the Kizashi when viewed from the sides?!

Here is a picture for reference:

I think the cars that have the metal strip also will have to have antenna stick or something from where it will get the radio signal. My Duster as well as Fiesta have both. Am I able to explain it clearly?

Hope it does not go in the same Kizashi way because of pricing expected to be agressive. The target is Honda City. Therefore it should be sub 10 L range.

Ciaz doesn't have a physical antenna or a shark fin for radio recpetion. There is an antenna printed on the rear glass along with the rear defogger. The defogger runs across the glass with multiple horizontal lines, whereas the glass antenna is printed in a single line vertically on the rear glass. The SX4 was the first and only car soo far in its segment to have a glass antenna IIRC. Even today only more expensive next segment cars like the Corolla etc come with glass antenna. Whereas the 10-14L segment still has to do with the ugly looking roof mounted variety.

Cheers

Sorry for going OT... But my 2009 Aveo has glass printed antennas and it costed a whole 2L lower than SX4.

Back to topic, Ciaz is surely a winner here and I agree that unless something fast is being done to Verna, both City and Ciaz will kill it. Vento will be unaffected as it would still lead the build quality department and people who prefer it will still go for it.

11.3 seconds to the ton from the 1.3 VGT ? Where did this number comes from. That looks wildly optimistic.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

I was ready to accept sub 12 second 0-100 timing from the petrol and sub 13 second 0-100 times from the diesel BUT 11.3 seconds from the diesel? :o Anyone care to share the source of this claim, cause if true, this is certainly the best all rounder out there (also glad to hear that it is planted and feels like a big sedan on highways which is an indication to its dynamic capabilities)

Those who are asking about the antenna, I think Prince has explained correctly; the antenna is printed on the rear glass in one single vertical line running down the middle of the horizontal de-fogger lines. Even, I found the concept crazy and only knew of it because of the Kizashi. Makes for a sleek no nonsense design and an easy way to spot ricers However, people have reported issues with reception after installing some forms of tint film so do be careful to buy and install any form of sun film from a reputable source.
