Looks like a good replacement of SX4. By the looks of it I think it will be the most spacious car in the segment. Hope the built quality will be atleast as good as that of swift.

Wow! The interiors sure are stunning and there seems to be lot of thought behind the design, considering the amount of detailing (e.g.: the steering wheel).

If that claimed FE of 26+ kmpl for DDiS is true, then this sure is a winner provided the top-end is priced a bit below that of the City (at least the "introductory" price ).

And considering how the City production is currently being throttled, MSIL has an advantage.

At the media unveiling of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the carmaker announced that it will launch its new C-segment sedan in the thick of the festive season – mid-October.
The Ciaz will get features like a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, rear AC vents, keyless entry and go, projector beam headlamps, window blinds, 16-inch alloy wheels etc. The Ciaz will be offered in a choice of seven colours including a signature brown (same as the Ertiga) and a maroon (similar to the new City). The car is expected to come with a competitive price tag between and will introduce new trims like the ZXI+ and the ZDI+.

Many have quoted here that SX4 had low FE. The engine was fantastic on highways, the real torque lied in mid range and helped in overtaking. VVT improved it.

SX4 was derived out of what is essentially a crossover. The higher than segment standard weight indicated that too. SX4 weighed at around 1200 kg, which was way higher than competition, more so than any City ever to hit Indian roads. Aerodynamics were also not designed for a sleek sedan for SX4 as it was actually a crossover.
These two parameters ruined FE of SX4 and gave it a bad image.
M16 motor which is powering SX4 has been updated and can be tuned to 130+ bhp. That state of tune in M16 is offered in Swift Sport. 120 bhp is what is offered in SX4 in EU markets.
SX4 was a sturdy car, more sturdier than Honda City IMO. Yes, Fit and Finish, plastic quality might not be as good, but lets not label the engine bad. SX4 diesel is a nice iteration, but the car was dated as per the public opinion.

Coming to Ciaz, a few things I have observed in limited set of images available :

1) Front grille is Baleno-ish! Nice.
2) Shut lines in and around boot is better than expected.
3) Space looks good, seats do not seem to have low placement like in Verna and also do not seem to have low under-thigh support. Apparently, Baleno had a very very nice rear seat.
4) Baleno had rear independent suspension, Ciaz wont have it. Lets see how is the ride quality.
5) Chrome grille should have been black in white and silver color.
6) From set of images by Overdrive, it seems that electric folding of ORVM is available.

.
. Whole design is done by Suzuki and Maruti had produced it locally.
Only thing we need to wait and see is the quality of interiors(especially rattles) and services. Really liking the new gear knob design. Steering could have that extra piece of covering around the buttons though. Instead they made a steel wrapping at the edges i think.

Precisely my concern. A big but light sedan

Unless it's made of aluminium...

Is it just me or does the side profile and rear three quarter view reminiscent of the old Chrysler Sebring from earlier 2000's and Chrysler Intrepid. Take a look:

Nice. Never thought it would look this good. The overall profile, the stance, the alloys, the interiors, the tried and tested engine all make it a brilliant package. Doesn't reek of cost cutting either like the Honda City.

That maroon colour looks smashing.

Honda - you better start worrying.

Tail lamp is looking similar to what it is in VW and Audi cars. Too early to comment though. Mods, Can you get us a pic when it glows

Any information as to what differentiates the Z and Z+ trims

Also i see the kerb weight being mentioned as 1010 and 1105 for petrol and diesel respectively, can anyone confirm this because i didn't see it anywhere else.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

Finally a car that can go head to head against the City - let's face it - the Vento / Rapid / Fiesta / Sunny gang always had major disadvantages against the City - either sales experience / ASS / Price / perception. The Ciaz to an extent carry some perception baggage for the brand conscious, but for the average Indian looking to upgrade to an entry level premium car, it ticks all the right boxes (assuming Maruti doesn't goof up the pricing)

I hope the quality is a clear step up from the Swift / Ertiga. I've always felt Maruti interiors look good in pictures, but are not finished very well and don't age well either. Hope this changes everything. Good luck to Maruti. When I replace my City, this will be one of the contenders!
