Correction: The Ertiga is 1235 Kg. Still, weight savings of 150-200 kgs is significant and I agree with you - the Ciaz will surprise many!

It would be great if Suzuki offers an automatic gearbox on the diesel variant.

MSIL - One word... EXCELLENT

The car looks as if it is from a segment above. The car is HUGE with neutral looks. With a little bit of bling from the Chinese version, this car will be a looker.

Eagerly awaiting to read the Team BHP Official Review.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

Wow!! I think we can safely say that based purely on looks, this is the benchmark for the segment now. Knowing Maruti, the ride and handling can be expected to be pretty sorted out. Add the class leading space and good enough interior space, I guess it has the makings of a winner. Ertiga has proved that people are willing to spend 8-10 lakhs on a Maruti.

My only grouse is the engines on offer. Atleast as an option they should have given the 1.6 litre petrol of SX4. Will the public overlook the below segment standard engines? Well if Toyota can give us a 80 odd bhp engine for 14 lakhs, why cant this sell? Lets wait and watch!!!

Engine options are sad!
The Baleno was /is a hoot to drive(945Kg/91BHP),but hates Bangalore(Low G.C).
The SX4's engine was even better(the car, however does not feel as good as the Baleno,to drive) and the G.C was epic.
This should have had a 1.4turbo petrol!
BTW,neither the SX4 nor the Baleno had sub-par FE!

Wow! How did they acheive that?

The same engine in my Punto returns around 17-18 kmpl only. And even the ARAI rating is around 19kmpl if i remember.

OT here.
Well, Corolla is for those chauffeur driven who really don't care about anything but rear-seat comfort. For them, what matters is:
-Back seat comfort
-Low maintenance
And plus good FE is a bonus.
Elantra doesn't make the cut as the chauffeur will get the ventilated seats whereas the owner won't.

Also, VAG cars have bad ASS.

But coming to Ciaz, it will be a primary self driven car for many. Not seeing how it will make the cut for many enthusiasts. Shorter gearing could help it's cause. Time for 7 Speed manuals to come to India

Since the Ciaz is a new design,it might have lower drag and the gear ratios might be taller.
Also, knowing Maruti, they would have used tyres with low rolling resistance.

What about the car weight, gearing?

Punto is heavy IMO.

After looking at the above pics and them reading this, looks like you are describing Ciaz here.

Infact, for chauffeur driven segment, Ciaz looks like 90% Corolla for approx 70% money.

The rear seats definitely looks beefed up and seems comfortable however I somehow feel that the front seats may not be offering the best under thigh support but the back support should be pretty good with the fat cushion.

I personally did not like this finish looks like a mismatch when compared to the rest of the interior also power window buttons look too basic.

This is really cool, and just seconds everyone's thoughts that the target is mostly chauffeured driven customers.

The center console looks neat and tidy , however there is no cabin light provided for the rear passengers , but they get a charging point for sure.

cheers,
pdma.

Relay love those blinds. Good thought by Maruti for Indian customers. Now lets wait and see what will be the argument to owners of Ciaz for this.
Definitely a good package. Need to wait for after sale experience from owners.

Gross vehicle weight rating - 1760 KG
Ertiga Diesel
Curb weight - 1235-1255 KG
Gross vehicle weight rating - 1845 KG
(Taken from the Ertiga owner's manual)

Hence, performance wise there may not be much to differentiate between Ertiga and Ciaz. Also, all sedans weigh around 1100 to 1200 KG.
1010 KG in my opinion is a low weight for such a big looking sedan.
Lets hope build quality is not compromized with super thin metal sheets.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

Ciaz is a fresh and innovative approach by Maruti to tackle City and Verna. I'm impressed by the car's stance. However:-

1. the hood loooks a bit small compared to rest of the cabin. If only it was a lil'bit longer.
2. The stylish fog lamp housing and LED tail lights as showcased in the Chinese Concept will be sorely missed in this production-spec version. It's as if Maruti willingly downgraded a dashing beast.

Positives:-

1. The seats look amply supportive and comfortable.
2. Provision of blinds on the rear windows like Audis & BMWs is a welcome move.
3. Rear blind is also nice, only Fiat Linea provides it in this segment if I'm not wrong.
4. Central armrest looks good.
5. 16" alloys give the car a handsome stance.
6. 1.4 L petrol will be a real fuel efficient one.

Expectations:-
1. Are rear AC vents provided?
2. Will the ZXI+ and ZDI+ receive AMT as well?
3. Will front and curtain airbags be provided.
4. How much will be the ground clearance?

Looking forward to the teambhp review.

Regards.
