Looks Gorgeous in beige n white. I'm sure it looks even better in black considering those proportions ! Finally a new design that has not been slashed with a sword all around to make it look modern (read fluidic). Elegant and timeless lines, finally... Well done Maruti, impressive stuff.

But... 90 BHP DDIS on this size :(

All is well.. Now what is the heart of the car? Does someone have any concrete news?

WoW! This looks like the spiritual successor to the Baleno! Lets hope that Maruti prices this logically...

Both engines are from the Ertiga.

Petrol: K14M aka 1.4L K-Series
Diesel: 1.3L DDiS with VGT (90PS).

When is TBHP's official review for this MS Ciaz coming! Can't wait for it.

Interested to see the engines it comes with.
To compete in the segment, it needs a powerful petrol and a super efficient cum powerful diesel.
Else, Honda City will just continue dominating and so will the Hyundai Verna.

But a beautiful interior though.

Source of this info? If I'm allowed to ask you.

If what you say is true, nobody will buy it. Except a person who rarely uses that car or will be chauffeur driven.

i think the diesel is quite competent since the power and torque figures are similar to the Honda City diesel (90 bhp, 200Nm @ 1750 rpm)

The petrol option with 1.4 liter engine is definitely underpowered - more so due to the low torque figures of 130 Nm.

Since engine details are not official yet and I am guesstimating based on the Ertiga engine options, I could be wrong - infact I secretly wish to be proven wrong by Maruti!

Here you go:

I feel the interiors would look great with 'all-black' interiors.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

More info from Twitter:

Dimensions:
Length: 4.43 metres
Width: 1.73 metres
Height: 1.48 metres
Boot capacity: 510 litres

Weight: 1010 kg!!! ( The Ertiga Petrol meanwhile weighs 1760 kg! This might end up being a sprightly performer after all)

Wheelbase: 2650 mm
Ground Clearance: 170 mm ( This looks a tad bit low to me)

Engines:

1.4 Petrol: 92 PS & 132 NM. Claimed Mileage 20.73 KMPL
1.3 Diesel: 90 PS & 200 NM. Claimed Mileage 26.21 KMPL ( Thats aggressive!)

Features:

7 Inch Multimedia Screen with Voice recognition, Nav & Rear Cam
Projector headlights
Engine Start Stop Button

Other Stuff:

Available colours: Biege, Black, Brown, Maroon, White & Silver

This looks like a Big car, loaded with features & with frugal engines. The perfect recipe to woo an Indian car buyer

Sorry, but the 1.3 MJD for 89 horses has a lot of turbo lag. The engine wakes up just under 2000 rpm. Also City has got 10 bhp more. Shorter gearing can help.

But the K14B motor is way behind competition. It'll help Maruti in the cost factor as they don't have to start production of a new engine.

Thank you! Yes, I guess you have to compromise on Power to own this thing. Agreed that it might be more spacious, but why compromise on power?

Correction: Nobody in 'team-bhp' would buy it, at max! But the general market wouldn't care much about the power and torque figures if the engine is fairly competent. We live in a country where the entry D-segment best seller is a 88.4 PS / 205 Nm car on a heavy 1270 kg body.

Compared to that the 93ps / 200Nm figures of the lighter C-segment Ciaz sounds much better. And as the pics show - the overall package looks very promising indeed for many people to forget about this limitation.

Exactly my thoughts. I loathe this fad of all OEMs with regards to beige overload. Cant we have it at leat as an option, in all black interiors?

Thanks for those clear images. Must say, the sheer length and clean lines triumph over anything else.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

Any reason(Other than FE considerations) why they(Maruti) are equipping it with the K14?
The SX4 has the bigger K16!
Even the Baleno has/had the 1.6L G16!
Is it because of reduced emissions?

Just to ask you have you driven the Ertiga with these two engines? You'll not believe what you are diving and mind you the Ertiga is a heavy car approx 1600 kgs or more and both the engines feel good to drive and not strain.

The Ciaz is just 1010 kgs so this set of engines should do well without a doubt. We have no idea about the gearing in the Ciaz

This car is coming from Maruti so the " Kitna Deti Hai?!" question needs to be satisfied. If FE is priority, Power is to be sacrificed. Simple thought, 'to gain something you'll need to lose something.'

I am eager to see how this car drivers with both engines on board. Just what I feel is the lack of a 6-speed MT.

You have answered your own question. It is due to FE that these engines have been chosen.

The SX4 doomed due to that engine which was thirsty. Thirsty engines aren't accepted by Indians.
