Ranveer or no Ranveer, I hope the ad teaches India how to pronounce Ciaz properly. Years of 'Ascent' for Hyundai made the poor guys change the spelling itself !

The celebrity choice makes me wonder if it is Hyundai who is funding this ad! When Hyundai uses SRK for endorsements, it would have been better for Maruti to stick to the common man instead of someone way below competitor's celebrity from the same field. At least they could have went with some sports person.

Message to the public who sees the Hyundai and Ciaz ads back to back:

Hyundai is like the SRK of auto industry while Maruti/Ciaz is the Ranveer. Is this how they plan to boost their premium image?

Disclaimer: I am neither a fan of Shahrukh Khan or Ranveer and by no means intend to start a debate on SRK vs. Ranveer here (That would be laugh worthy)

I do not however agree with the statement made in your post. This really is an individual's opinion. People also perceive SRK as someone who's now done with his era; whereas Ranveer is Young, Dynamic and most importantly dating Deepika Padukone Aspirational for some folks, ain't it?

Also he doesn't claim to be The King or something else and has done very common, boy next door roles which add to his mass appeal. He is known to be raw as well as classy at the same time.

Eventually it's the product and how aspirational it is that will make it sell and No Ranveer/SRK. I mean Imagine SRK driving an i10 as his daily drive, really?

Again, I hope this doesn't spark or fuel this discussion further.

I guess your post has further cemented what I was trying to convey. When someone types Ranveer's name too many times in a post, some of them accidentally get converted to the more famous "Ranbir"

Overdrive in their show this week mentioned that for the next week episode they will have the review of the Ciaz, so i suppose the media drive will be this week. If so then a 5th of september launch looks probable.

The advertisement of Ciaz in The Tribune featuring Ranvir Singh. Looks like the launch is really near.

With the latest price changes for fuels, the difference between petrol and diesel is now less than 10 rupees in most places. In Chennai, it is Rs. 8.63 now at some PSU pumps. In the state of Goa, petrol is noticeably cheaper than diesel now.

This reduces the advantage diesel engines had over petrol ones to a large extent. Those with high average daily usage would still opt for diesel as the fuel of choice, but it would certainly make the majority of buyers think twice or thrice before they pay huge additional sums ranging from 1 to 1.75 lac rupees on-road for a diesel variant over its equivalent petrol counterpart.

In the C2 sedan segment, this is going to turn out to be advantageous for Honda, as the City may extend its dominance further, much to the chagrin of all rivals. The i-DTEC's NVH levels have turned away many potential buyers, great FE notwithstanding. Those who wanted a diesel automatic in this segment also have only one choice now, and that is the Verna. Unlike in diesel, Honda have the option of a well-mated, stepped CVT for their petrol engine, which is another advantage for them.

To adjust to the changing conditions, Maruti Suzuki will have to concentrate more on petrol now. It also suits them, as they don't have to pay any royalty to Fiat on petrol engines. The K14B's power output needs to be upped to at least 100PS, which they are reportedly doing. They can also look at introducing a K15 engine (obtained by boring out the K14) for use in the Ciaz, Ertiga and maybe S-Cross too.

Then, they need to bring in an automatic gearbox for the petrol Ciaz. The Indonesian Ertiga exported from India already has a 4-speed torque converter (shared with the Ritz AT & DZire AT, I believe) mated to the K14. They need to introduce this in the Ciaz (and also Ertiga, to get the first mover advantage in that segment) and price it well, unlike the overpriced Ritz & DZire ATs. Better still, bring in either a 5-speed/6-speed torque converter or a CVT. AMTs are not suitable for this segment, and they have already understood it. Most importantly, they should NOT skimp on airbags for the Ciaz AT (as they have with the Celerio, Ritz & DZire).

As the City is going to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the changed fuel price scenario, Maruti Suzuki and other competitors will have to concentrate on targeting the petrol City more.

Has the inclusion of K14 petrol engine been confirmed? If so, then its also the death of MS's 1.6 VVT, which has defined driving pleasure for the past 5 years...and that'd be really really sad.

I would urge MS to leave the engine choice to the consumer, and offer the CIAZ with both the 1.4 and 1.6 engine options. While I am in the advisory mood, may I also add optional reserve cam, six airbags, a bose system and tint glasses.

The 1.6 was actually one of the reasons the SX4 flopped. When someone goes to by a Maruti car they expect fuel efficiency. When owners started reporting fuel efficiency figures of 8-9kmpl, the SX4 was doomed.

Even a superb diesel, the 1.3L with 90HP and softened suspension could not revive the fate of the SX4. To top it off Hyundai launched the Verna and VW launched the Vento.

The K14 and 1.3L 90HP are very safe choices. Both engines offer decent performance and economy. They may not be the benchmark in performance but they are par for the course.

The Linea, Fiesta, Sunny all are in same league. Only the City, Vento and Verna better the K14 and 1.3L DDiS.

Remember this is MAruti's third try at this segment first with the Baleno, then SX4 and now Ciaz. They are going to try their best to cater to as wide as audience as possible.

How can you forget the T-Jet? Its way too advanced for its segment, Fiat cut the power down because of the fuel quality.

Exactly and as commented by the Chairman of Maruti Suzuki, they have reached the ceiling and no more expectations must be kept from Maruti on Ciaz and their efforts.

If the Ciaz clicks then we can see some light that would help regain confidence in reaching out to the higher segments else Maruti will be A & B Segments!

I was only comparing with popular cars and those which people actually consider when looking for a car. That's why I never mentioned Scala also.

And I think the 1.2TSI is the one that is too advanced for this segment. The TSi has direct injection which is not there in the T_JET.

Anyways, all this is off topic as this is a Ciaz thread and my earlier post was pretty clear in conveying Maruti's thinking so let's stick to Ciaz here.

Saw Ciaz teaser ad in today's Economic Times. With the bookings opening (supposedly) this week, the Ciaz seems set for a mid or end September launch. Considering that Maruti already has 6000+ cars in inventory, deliveries should be quick too!
