Anurag.

Does it also mean that the pricing could be close to the City, since they feel they have matched the City?
Another way of interpreting this is - City is the ceiling for us and we can't really go beyond it.

I guess a lot will depend on the feel good factor - Maruti needs to really improve the interiors to give this a premium feel. This is absolutely critical for this segment.
Also, is there any concrete news on the launch date or at least when the press drives might begin?

Right. It means Ciaz is their best effort for a premium product and they won't go beyond it. He clearly stated Suzuki is not interested in higher segments so Maruti will also stay till City segment.

That's indeed an interesting comment from their chairman!
Where will they place the S-Cross then?

As I mentioned earlier, as long as 1.6 engine is imported and not produced in India, Maruti will have to make the S-Cross premium. Else they just cannot sell it cheap. Because the engine as an import will command quite some margin being eaten into. But the moment, the engine production starts in India, they will (may) start cutting corners and then bring the price down. But till then, they just dont have a choice but to make it premium.

But the curios part is with Vitara also being unveiled where does that leave the S-Cross? Is the new Vitara an answer to Audis and BMWs? Or the new Vitara wont just make it to India? But that is for a different thread to discuss.

Thats why my question. In Europe, the S-Cross is in the lines of Qashqai, and hence (if launched in India) should cost at least in the range of 15-20 lakhs. So if they say that the range of Honda City is the limit for Suzuki in India, its a bit puzzling

The new Vitara is not a direct replacement to the current one. They're taking the name Vitara to the new small SUV, which will go against the likes of the Ecosport, Nissan Juke etc. in the UK; definitely a segment below the S-Cross.

Vitara will not come to the Indian market. What we will get is the SUV based on the XA Alpha concept, which will bear resemblance to the Vitara. My guess is- Indian version will be less than 4m compared to the 4.2m length of the European Vitara.

They seem to have learnt this the hard way with Grand Vitara & Kizashi. I don't think Maruti can never be an aspirational brand for buyers in the >10 lac segments. 10 lac segment itself is a stretch for Maruti. Ciaz is probably their ceiling and its good to hear that they know their game.

Ciaz commercial shoot begins! Features Bollywood star Ranveer Singh! Unveil of Ciaz to start soon ... Sept first week?

The Maruti Ciaz sedan is about to be launched anytime soon and has been spotted being shot for its commercial at a scenic location, which appears to be either Pondicherry or a stretch on the NH 17 where it touches the Arabian Sea. However, we got to know it is somewhere in Gujarat. The commercial will feature young and popular movie star Ranveer Singh, who is seen in the pictures as a sharp, well dressed young achiever

What's that black SUV? Is it just my mobile screen size, or that SUV is masked like a spy car?

I bet Ciaz in black would look brilliant! Those proportions are near perfect, and there are no unnecessary design funkiness.

The black SUV Ranveer seems to be getting into, is different from the SUV seen in the last pic.

A matte black wrap is always used to mask the vehicle on which camera is mounted to reduce reflection/ glare while shooting moving vehicles.

Even I doubt if Vitara would come to India. This looks quite premium. The XA-Alpha I think will have a much lower price bracket to play with.
