Very good move indeed!

Fortunately or unfortunately, AMTs are being perceived as the "poor man's automatic" (according to what Maruti Suzuki feels). In a segment where perception matters a lot, an AMT Ciaz would be at a disadvantage. Apart from the slight jerkiness, AMTs are also yet to prove themselves in the long run in India.

A 5-speed torque converter gearbox or a CVT (with torque converter) would be a much better option.

Well, its good to see black interiors, dead pedal and a auto dimming mirror. IF only the engine, especially the diesel was a 1.6L MJD :(

The interior materials are temporary placeholders, right? They're downright pathetic!

It's a test car so the interiors are only templates without the IP coating for the texture.

The soft touch or the grains in hard plastic are added on later not when the car is in testing phase so let's not say pathetic by looking at the heavily camouflaged, pre production prototype car.

They are testing the car for dynamics, performance, FE, road behaviour so for all these the 'basic' car is enough. No point in spending money on adding trim, coating etc for a R&D vehicle. If the ride, handling, comfort, performance, FE are as thought, when the car is production ready all the beautification will be done.

Really hoping for at least a 1.5L/1.6L petrol engine and not the 1.3L Ertiga one. If it's the former, this is definitely taking precedence over the Honda City 2014 for me!

+1 to anuraag and vidyut. None of the trim parts from suppliers would have been approved my Maruti during the pre build phases. All tools design will be frozen post part validation on proto vehicles which will undergo fit and performance testing. These pre build vehicles are tested on real life environment for mileage accumulation and durability. These data will be used later during vehicle homologation at ARAI.

The grain texture will be added to the mold very close to the production build units only.

Cheers!

In this below image, dashboard looks really nice.

I guess we are getting proper infotainment system here in the top end model. Good to see MUL providing high end features. Really looking forward to this car now. Will give some serious competition to Verna & City

That is the same plastic quality seen on the Swift. Which is not bad nor good. Lets wait for the final version.

Though when I spied the Mahindra Quanto, it was in the earlier phase and they materials used were the same on the final product.

No it is most definitely not. This is how interiors of a prototype car under test look like:

Notice the reflections in the top half. The production car has a matte finish with grain on it. The grains are the final step which are not needed for a car on test.

Maruti is going to pull out all stops to offer a car which is stylish and comes with top notch interiors and even a bit of non-characteristic bling on this one. They have always suffered at the hands of Hyundai on these parameters.
So even if they dont offer the 1.6 MJD straight away, the fit and finish should be ahead of normal Maruti standards for sure.

As per Gaadiwaadi's latest report/ spy pic, the car will get projector headlamps. Refer below link for their report:

I hope people still remember the pictures on page 1 from Anshuman.

They show the projector lights in both variants as well as the climate control, audio system and rear AC vents.

Yup nearly a year ago and they were spot on.

Kept referring the first page of this thread to several folks who had questions about the car not much else has been revealed in the 30 pages that followed

Kudos to you Anshuman Sir!
