If the 1.6Mjd is imported, Maruti may not be able to price it well and it may not go down well and they may never end up getting the volumes high enough for justifying local production, atleast not till they come up with more models to use the engine. By the time S-cross comes it will be too late for Ciaz. A price cut later on may not help even if the product is good. We ve had a few examples of that already.
I don't think Maruti will import and use 1.6 MJD if they plan to use it in Ciaz (YL1). I guess they can source it from Fiat India (They have plant here in Ranjangaon, Pune) or they will manufacture it themselves under Fiat license. Fiat will be more than happy to give it to Maruti as it will bring them lots of business by doing nothing. Importing will be costly for sure and will increase the cost of the car considerably and spares will also become pricey. Maruti will surely undercut Honda city, Verna, Vento etc in terms of price to stay in the market. With imported engine it will be difficult.

But if YL1 is coming with 1.6 MJD, then i am loving it for sure

I feel bringing in the 1.6 MJD as an imported, more expensive variant, is a brilliant move which will let them gauge how much demand there is for a more powerful diesel motor amongst the public. So far it has only been us enthusiasts complaining.

Coming to your questions, I would be really happy if it were the VGT version because then this car would have a true edge over the competition in literally every aspect but then I would not mind paying extra for the FGT version if that's the only one they bring, either. In the end, we are talking about diesels after all so it is time we began talking about Torque and not BHP The 1.6 MJD makes almost 100NM more of it and that is really substantial.

If they get the 1.6 MJD as an import the costs will be too high for any demand to stand for it. They will have to do it the 1.3 MJD way to bring in the success and also the break even point.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

October is way too late!

Honda has already taken a massive dump on the YL1 by whacking those tail lights. The new City with its long list of features / equipment, rear leg room and linear performance will be the pick of the lot. The fact that the City also comes with a CVT will mean that it remains the only choice for those looking for a reliable AT car.

Maruti may sell the YL1 in good numbers but I don't understand why we will have to wait an eternity for a car that essentially seems to be ready?!

Come October and the competition would probably get hotter. VAG may revamp the Vento / Rapid twins, the Verna just received a small update and who knows what Nissan / Renault / Toyota have in store for us!

Totally agreed. I was looking for a replacement for my 4 year old SX4 with a car in the same segment. I shortlisted down to the "new SX4" and the City 4th Gen. After some thought, we went and pre-booked the City (V-MT petrol) despite that I wanted to see the Maruti. In hindsight was a good decision as the City should be here by Feb-end and the Maruti wouldn't have been home before another 9 months!

What is Maruti doing I wonder, unless it's to do something with the new deal with Suzuki...

Some details surface on the Ciaz. Could debut in the AMT Variant ( looks logical for the delayed launch)

Authentics concept

In terms of styling, the Ciaz may get a wider version of Suzuki’s prominent grille on the longish bonnet. The large multi-element headlights look like projector units and the flanks seem tightly skinned with sharp cuts on the doors. At the rear, the tail-lamps remind you a bit of the all-new Honda City.

Mechanically, the YL1 sedan is likely to be offered with a petrol and diesel engine option. The petrol engine is expected to be the same 1.4-litre K14 motor as seen on the Ertiga, while the diesel variant may use the proven 1.3-litre DDiS multi jet engine with variable turbo geometry. In terms of transmission, for its automatic variant, Maruti could also offer an automated manual transmission (same gearbox technology that will feature on the new Maruti Celerio hatchback) instead of a conventional torque convertor. This may give Maruti a significant price advantage over its competitor’s equivalent automatic models.

Looks awesome! However, the final production version may be toned down to a great extent. Those alloys are mighty drool worthy.

Wow! They look terrific!
Even if the production version loses a lot of that bling, they will still look the best in their segments.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

Both cars will be on launched this year.

CIAZ
The Ciaz concept will get two engine options, petrol and turbo diesel. The petrol powered versions will get 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic gearboxes while the turbo diesel engined versions will be manual-only models.

S CROSS
The 2014 Maruti Suzuki SX4 Crossover will also get naturally aspirated petrol and turbo diesel engines. However, the engine capacity of both the petrol and diesel engine on the SX4 Crossover will be of 1.6 liters each. A 1.6 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 1.6 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engines will be offered on the SX4 Crossover. A 5 speed manual and a CVT automatic with 7 stepped ratios will form gearbox options on the petrol powered models while a 6 speed manual will be standard on the diesel powered models.

Cheers!

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

More on the SX4 S cross.

> 4 m length, would be pricey( 15-20 lakh) and a segment below the Grand Vitara in India.

The car shown today in a Black color comes with features such as Suzuki’s ALLGRIP 4WD system and a double sliding glass sunroof. Maruti also points out that the S-Cross is rated 5-stars by the Euro NCAP for its crash safety protection.

The petrol motor is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox, which sends power to the front wheels in case of the 2WD model and all four wheels on the AWD model.

When it is launched in India, it will be powered by the 1.4-litre K14 petrol engine and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine with a variable geometry turbo, both from the Ertiga. It will be offered in automatic form, with Maruti likely to offer the automated manual like the one on the Celerio hatchback.
