Looks like a promising product. But it will interesting to see that how Maruti will slot this new sedan between Dzire and SX4. The sedan like a well designed car.

By the way great scoop.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

Wow the VDI/ZDI looks really nice. Kizashi style alloys are fabulous. Many reports online suggest a 2014 launch? Is it true? Why wont they launch it in 2013 (by Diwali?). The next gen city will be out in 2014 and it makes sense for Maruti to rake it in till then. Lets face it, the next gen City will be the car to buy in 2014 and this car if launched simultaneously may lose out on sales to Honda.

What i find surprising is the way in which they have ripped off a VW interior. Its clearly inspired (im not complaining) even to the extent of the design of the side air vent and sound system buttoms.

Impressed with the interior pics. Looks to me like a first genuine attempt to provide a premium looking vehicle, from the Maruti stable (other than Kizashi). Interiors looks nice and cohesive, well planned. Projector lamps, 16" alloys will do well to compete with Vento, Verna, etc. Looks like Maruti did their homework well. The 1st Maruti I'm keen to wait to know more about.

Anshuman's 'details' didn't mention this but is what I've circled looks like steering mounted telephony controls? Is seems to be a bit recessed and behind the steering wheel.

The European Suzuki SX4 [S-Cross] crossover seems to have the same steering wheel with voice control on it (same position). [The S-Cross is yummy too and news reports claim Maruti to be bringing it next year as well, code named as YL7].

Truly, a great effort by Maruti. And knowing how Maruti crazy India is, this better effort will also see brilliant sales, if Maruti prices is sensibly. Only wish, like few other members, that more powerful diesel engine makes its way into this car.

Thanks a lot for the info. Hope the engines dont lose any CCs or cylinders in the 'indianization' process.

Mods: Wish the watermarks on the pictures could be toned down - in their present form, they're a mite too intrusive.

Even I was excited by seeing the pics and all the excitement was gone. July 2014 seems to be too far. This looks looks like a perfect product for Maruti in the current scenario to boost their sales, but not for 2014.

Hope they expedite the process and bring it on roads soon.

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

Excellent.

Big thanks, anshuman and your birdie friend. I have been hooked to this thread for quite some time now, and the latest pic of the ZXi/ZDi variant has peaked my interest.

The car looks absolutely smashing from all angles, I must admit, even if it has borrowed styling elements from almost all good-looking cars one can think of - front has those Ertiga-esque headlamps with Kizashi-styling inside (and projectors too!) coupled with that SX4 grille, side profile resembles the D-segment cars, alloys look like they were inspired heavily from the Linea, and rear tail-lamps/boot styling resembles the Kizashi a lot, plus the high boot and boot lip remind me of the Honda City/Civic.

The interiors look really premium as well, but I hoped for a better steering than that Swift/DZire one. Also, is that faux wood-fibre finish I see lining up the dash? That's also a bit of outdated styling. Instead, they could have provided something else.

Another disappointing factor I see here is the offering of 1.3 MJD/1.4 petrol. This car screams for a 1.6 under it's hood. I can understand MSIL trying to keep the price in the affordable range but those 2 engine specs will make the car underpowered, IMO. Still, MSIL engineers are known to do some superb tweaks to their procured engines, so let's hope the engines are competent enough.

Lack of ESP is another disappointment as well. If it turns out to be a powerful car, ESP is a must.

I predict a starting price of 5.99L for the base petrol of this one, and not more than 9L for the top diesel. Any more and this won't come in as a VFM offering.

Maybe we will have a 1.6 offering in the future, sold at a slightly higher premium than the 1.3/1.4. Who knows? Let's wait and watch.

Thanks again. Keep the good work going, my friend.

A few bits of the car are very much like the Vento. The instrument cluster & the gear!
The car looks really premium and if priced right, will out sell the Vento just because it is a Maruti! But, what worries me is the 1.3L DDiS. It is no match for the Vento's punchy 1.6TDi !

Maruti should find a way to get the horn controls closer to the steering; i drove my friend's new swift dezire and had to shift my hand to use horn. This steering setup will have the same issues IMO.

I like this, I like this car a lot. This car seems to be a clear winner according to me. Bring it on amaze!!! Although it may be pricier than amaze, clearly it will be a category above, and may say along with sx4 a notch above, and many people would pick this due to the legendary customer service and reliability. Where is cannibalization when money goes to the same pocket?

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

So looks like Maruti would have something tempting to keep me in their fold next year. One bit I am not so sure about is the engine. Somehow a 1.3 multijet seems too puny for a car of that size. Perhaps the 1.6 Fiat multijet.

Though Maruti's first attempt at venturing into segment first fall flat they tend to come back with a bang - the Swift, the dzire replacing the Baleno, the ertiga these are all now class leaders - and they manage to do it without relinquishing their grip on the segment they already have. So I am very hopeful of a great car in a segment that they have failed with the SX4.

Drive on,
Shibu.

The 1.3 MJD in the Swift is quite nippy, especially if you keep it in the meat of the torque-band. The 1.3 MJD in the SX4 replacement is the same motor doing duty in the Ertiga. This engine produces peak torque sooner than the engine in the Swift. It boils down to the VGT in the Ertiga vs the FGT in the Swift.

I think the engine is more than sufficient for city driving. It should be able to munch highway miles effortlessly too. However, I have noticed that the engine begins to run out of breath at around 130-140 km/h.

A bigger engine would have been nice, but let's not forget that it will require a helluva lot more investment and the homologation process might contribute to further delays. Mid-2014 production-commencement is late enough as it is.

Not sure if I really like the looks of it. It looks like it is again based on the Swift platform by looking at the front doors. Linea to me is still the best looker in the segment especially with the new 16 inch alloys.
