Will we see some more discounts on available stocks with the dealers? Any news on what is being offered?

Mitsubishi is not going to hear thousands of loud cries from India and elsewhere to bring back Lancer / Cedia / Evo etc. They are busy at the Pikes International Hill Climb with a 560 bhp all electric race car! And the safety car for the race is All New 2014 Outlander - a Hybrid. And sure not any remote chance of bringing Electric cars to India in the near or distant future. So, all we can do is - Sigh! Mitsubishi as we know for the roaring rally machines will or has become a thing of the past. Like Yezdis and Rajdoots, in future people may be talking about Lancer and Evos.

I think HM-Mitsubishi must be the most frustrating car company / partnership in India!
They totally killed great cars and potential new ones unborn or still born.
Regarding launch of new model, they have never launched a new model before it is rumoured to be launched for atleast 2+ years :-(
wouldn't advise anyone to wait on new launch!

Mitsubishi should not have given up hope in the Indian market. They should think about what FIAT has done now. Breaking up from HM and setting up independent chain would have been a start.

Anyways, they know whats best for them and if discontinuation is their mode of survival, its a loss for enthusiasts. Sometime back, I was hoping if they could bring the ASX in the C+ segment of ours.

Tell me one performance car which sold in decent numbers in India... one?

There are two Japanese companies which are doing bad financially at the moment. They are both having low focus on India - current focus is on those markets where they are doing decent numbers.

1. Mitsubishi (in automobile segments)
2. Panasonic (in electronics segment - mainly in Audio/ Video entertainment)

So, please do not get very emotional about these brands.

I never implied that plonking the puny 2.0 engine in it would make the Lancer a performance car. At 115 horses, other cars outshine it quickly. But there is a market for the all-show-and-no-go performance cars which are poor cousins of their international high performance variants.

This is where the Lancer SLXi's and SFXi's and the first generation Honda City Vtec's come in. Both were sold in more than decent numbers. The 1.5 Vtec was going at a rate of 3/10 Honda Citys (the rest being made up of the normal 1.5 EXi's and its poor 1.3 litre cousins). The Lancers never had engine options, it was just the 1.5 litre 77 horses engine. But the SLXi's and the SFXi's sold at a rate of 4/10 Lancers (the LX's, LXd, LE's making up the rest).

One performance car which i really wished would have succeeded was the Invex with the highly advertised man-o-matic shifter. That came with a 1800 cc mill.

Mitsu finally woke up! May be they made this decision last year and because they are slow in everything that they do, the decision got implemented so late!
Jokes apart, the decision to stop production of Cedia and Outlander was long due. no diesels, declining reputation, sales & service levels worse than Fiat, so what else was due in the horizon, really?
Back in the Mid and late 90's the lancer commanded such premium image, at least in the south from whatever I have seen while growing up. One of my friends was crazy about the lancer and he bought a new diesel lancer even in 2008{i think the production was already halted and they were selling what was available}.
Mitsu did not capitalize on this huge brand equity that they had.
Outlander--No diesel, 20 lakh+ SUV, in india against the fortuner, no chance! Even SUVs like X-trail and Captiva in spite of Diesel engines have failed, so where is the chance for a petrol SUV at this sort of a price?
Do I think Mitsu will do a revamp? NO! Globally they are brand that was known for the rally bred lancers and pajeros and their image sadly hasnt changed beyond that.

Chennai seems to be loosing its sheen yet another time.... Is there any chance of picking up a new cedia for 5L due to this news? Or do they announce such news only if all units are sold out....

Mitsubishi is dead in India. And the reason is NOT HM, as most seem to believe. It is the parent company's inaction/lethargy/lack of focus that's the chief cause.

Last i heard, mitsu non-performance cars draw yawns across the globe too.

Did you know Mitsubishi has even shut down their Indian website www.mitsubishi-motors.co.in is no more existing. Something is cooking, definitely.

A quiet exit from the market? The domain is valid until May 2014 (few high-profile sites have failed to renew this on time in the past) so it doesn't look like a technical issue.

This is interesting. They seem to be withdrawing from India.

Well I was not surprised listening to this bit of news. Always felt that Mitsubishi were never serious with their products in the Indian Market. Now with the Outlander & Cedia gone, think they will be focussing only on the Pajero Sport? Or do we see something brewing in that area as well?

Such a shame, they were one of the first company to venture into untested Indian Market and could not sustain the demands.

For whatever reason, the website is back online after few days. But only with Paejeo Sport and Montero. Cedia "goes off the road" and Outlander "Moves away from the Spotlight"!
