Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

I saw a fully unmasked i20 Elite (test drive vehicle) today. If the logos were masked, you may think you are looking at a Renault or Peugeot. Totally European!

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

It's really disappointing that Hyundai is offering two airbags only on the top variant. They should restrict the number of variants and offer ABS and Airbags standard across all.

Its really frustrating that companies like Hyundai do not want to take a stand and make basic safety features accessible to all.

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

The magna variant has everything which a regular customer would need. I just wish they would have provided 1 airbag in the magna, 2 in sports and 4 in the Asta.

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

As per the LIVE stream, the variants are as follows:
  1. Era
  2. Magna
  3. Sportz
  4. Asta

The brochures published above have different variants listed in them.

At 7.66 lacs (Ex-showroom), the top-end diesel ASTA variants will be close to 9 lacs on-road in most cities, which makes it pretty expensive.

If I want airbags, I have to buy the top end model?! Why can't Hyundai make ABS & Airbags standard across the range like VW?

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

I think Hyundai has hit nail on the head with its pricing of Elite i20.

Name: Hyundai.png
Views: 15913
Size: 6.2 KB

Surprisingly pricing of Sportz (O) was not revealed.

While comparison of the features show that lower variants of the previous generation i20 were more loaded than the new one, there are a lot more new feature additions in Elite i20 which kind of compensates for it.

Following are few features in the previous generation i20 which is missing in the new one
-Sunroof
-Side & Curtain airbag
-Rear disc brakes

Following are features in the new generation i20 which was missing in the old one
-1 GB internal memory
-Driver arm rest
-Intermittent variable front wiper
-Clutch footrest
-Rear AC vents
-Seat belt pretensioner
-Auto Up Down (Old one had only Auto Down)
-More Leg room
-More shoulder room

Fuel Economy
Petrol
Era and Magna -18.6 km/l
Sportz, Sportz (O) and Asta - 18.24 km/l

Diesel
Era and Magna - 22.54 km/l
Sportz, Sportz (O) and Asta - 21.76 km/l

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

Though we already have a proper insight on all the official specs and pics and brochures, Hyundai's website still haven't have them. But currently the website is down. New pages upload is in progress I believe.

This new i20 is a hit definitely and a big miss on a few points. Specially the safety features. IMHO Magna is the most VFM and Sportz is just about everything anyone needs. But the lack of safety features on Magna is absolutely disappointing. Sprotz on the other hand has ABS but misses out on passanger airbags :O ... Thoroughly disappointing. Pricing is competitive except for the Asta IMO.

It is alarming to see that car manufacturers are aiming their products only to which market demands in India is. That is fair enough in a way. But neglecting the safety norms in favor of market demand is something we are definitely not looking forward to.

BTW the official website is finally updated

Top end if you want dual airbags. Else the Sportz and Sportz (O) has single airbag.

Single airbag is pointless IMO & probably only seen in countries like India. For all the talk about Hyundai taking Indian's seriously they have been upstaged by VW in safety features.

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

Well, the bad news is that they have cocked up pricing vs features to some extent.

The good news is that because they have cocked up, some people are likely to stay away, which is likely to keep waiting periods down, which works perfectly for me as this is the only car in this price range that makes sense to head and isn't a ticking time bomb(read VW and Fiat)

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

Hyundai have surely done a good job with respect to adding some segment first features again, like :

- Driver Armrest
- 1 GB internal storage

They have also adopted the 'European Look' design on their Elite.

In my opinion, they have missed a lot more, like :

- AT transmission at least as an option or offering
- All round disc breaks for atleast Sports (O) & Asta versions
- Air bags as standard fitment

Until an expert from TBHP reviews these new Koreans, one can only hope Hyundai have fixed the performance flaws in the I-gen I20, especially the VTVT.

OT - So, only few makers like VW in India feel Safety does not come at a price.
