Both are front wheel drive 140PS 6 speed manual box. Features wise actually comparable with no xenons, sunroof and other stuff.

Ground clearance of Jetta is 160mm and Q3 is 170mm. Interior space is way more in the Jetta than the Q3.

Plastic bits inside maybe of better quality but the price difference is almost 9lakhs between a Jetta Highline and the Q3S.

Essentially you are getting a Jetta but paying for an Audi. My advice to anyone looking at the Q3: don't get fooled by the SUV tag and go get yourself a Jetta. If you want to spend more than buy a EcoSport with the money left over after buting the Jetta for the bad roads. :D

Same goes for the Yeti I believe?
As far as I know the Elegance 4x4 has all wheel drive, xenons and ACC!

Also I believe the Q3 S has fewer airbags. Cannot confirm on this.

Don't think the Yeti Elegance 4x4 has Xenons. They come with standard reflector headlamp assembly.

The Yeti is immensely capable but the reason I did not mention it is because it does not have the same premium tag associated with it as the Jetta for some reason. Looks and style of the Jetta are what matter in this segment and those are the buyers that will look at the Q3 also.

My bad, just checked the Skoda India website. I have seen a few Yeti's with projector lens, maybe they were offered on earlier model year cars.

I agree with you there. I am also shopping in the 20 to 25L segment. The Yeti and Superb are on their way for a facelift with an all new Superb expected in 2015. The new Octavia looks promising. I hope they launch a truly high end model with bixenons, 8 way powered seats at least with memory (optional), ACC, reversing camera and genuine leather interiors with soft touch plastics. It is pardonable to skip out on features like TPMS or so but when forking out this kind of dough, I expect a minimum level of equipment whatever said. The BMW X1 is tempting at the price it is being offered right now but once again basic features have been skimped on and rear interior space is on the lower side though I am sure the lovely gearbox, engine and chassis make up for it. As a family of four adults, I look towards the CR-V and Toyota Camry. Both are petrol cars and the Camry definitely is priced more than it ought to be but in the longer run they might just be cheaper to maintain. We are mighty happy with our 2009 Corolla Altis GL. All said I am waiting for the new Octavia and Yeti Facelift to make my final call.

On another note, are there any discounts on the 2.0 TFSI Q3? The ex-showroom price is about 2L more than the Q3 S however it has much more potent engine coupled with an automatic gearbox and few more creature comforts like ACC etc.

You missed a very important one: Jetta looks like Vento, Q3 looks like Q5 :D

Jetta also looks like the Audi A4. Park both next to each other and the Jetta rear profile can easily be mistaken for a A4.

Q3 looks compact at first sight, the Jetta is long and wide.

No way. A4 looks stunning from the front.
I love A4. Don't break my heart :D.

BTW, they say Q3 S is locally assembled so it's cheaper. Is it? Does local assembly result in such miniscule saving??? Price difference of ~3 lakhs (in fact even lesser if we account for the missing features)? Audi is milking us. And it's the same car, so if they can assemble one trim, why can't they assemble all 3? This is nonsense...

Hi Himanshu, it might be few owners who've gone ahead and either imported headlamp kits with projector lamps & HIDs or made local modifications to the existing headlight assembly to set in a projector lamp shroud.

I could be wrong but as far as I've known, Yeti never came with projector headlight setup in India. I think the Yeti sported projector lamps only when it was first unveiled in India in one of the earlier Auto Expo shows.

Vid, its things like looks, chic style, prestigious badge, exclusivity, interior, high seating position, SUV tag etc etc.......mostly intangibles.

If you just look at gizmo_count : price ratio, any Hyundai will come out on top anyways

Likewise its hard to justify a Superb over an E-class 4cyl

Apologies if this has been shared already, but just read this.

Audi rolls out Q3 S edition at Rs 24.99 lakh, offers online booking.

German luxury car maker Audi launched its latest Audi 'Q3 S Edition' sports utility vehicle in India, priced at Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). Audi India Head Michael Perschke said the new sports utility vehicle (SUV) has been launched by keeping right balance between power and fuel efficiency, delivering an average of 17.33 km per liter.

The Audi Q3 S Edition is our answer to ever-increasing demand for luxury mobility with the thrill of self-controlled driving. We are confident that the Audi Q3 S Edition will be yet another successful addition to our success story in India," Audi India Head Michael Perschke told reporters here.

The company also launched online booking of its vehicles through, which the company claimed as first of its kind initiative in India. The innovative online booking process introduced by the company contributed to the spectacular debut by giving Audi enthusiasts across the country an opportunity to book their favorite SUV online, Audi said.

As part of the text they write

........with features like the high revving six-speed manual transmission .......

as far as I know transmissions are not high revving, engines are, or is this a new VW family invention!!!.

Saw Peashke on the Box. Now the source of the error is obvious. He said high revving (pause) manual transmission. The copywriter skipped the pause!

Audi Q3 local production starts.

Audi India has started the production of the Q3 compact SUV at its Aurangabad plant, Maharashtra. After the Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi Q5 and Audi Q7, the Audi Q3 is the fifth model to be produced in India by the Ingolstadt carmaker.

Saw the review of the Q3 S by Autocar India. The car indeed looked pretty good. Yes, it misses on the signature LED strips, ACC, Quattro and few other gizmos, and also slightly low on power compared to the regular version. But I feel it’s a pretty good package when compared to the B180 CDI, or the base X1. And this probably is the only model from the big three Germans with a manual gearbox.

Audi Q3 S discontinued due to poor demand!

God damn it!! What is it with these rich people and their inability to use their left legs!! With the discontinuation of the q3 s, I think nobody in that segment will come forward to offer a stick. So there goes my dream of owning a stripped out petrol a3/a class/1 series with a stick. You just can't seem to have involvement with cars these days. It's all about electronic this and automatic that.
