Re: Ford India equips EcoSport with life-saving system

If the owner goes ahead with this facility, only then will be the calls be made. Secondly, in the event of an accident, the system tells the car occupants that it will initiate a call to 108 and then waits 10 seconds. The occupants can cancel the call during these 10 seconds. If not, then the automated calls goes ahead and the GPS co-ordinates are shared as well with the 108 operator.

Hope this explains.

Ford India organized one of the largest media drive events for the EcoSport compact SUV, the most awaited car in India currently. The drive event spans over a period of two weeks and is in it’s last phase. During the drive event earlier today, one of the EcoSport was involved in an accident, as you can see in the image above (credit Stuff India, they also mention that they were not the one driving this car).

Luckily, no one was injured, in this mishap. But, one of the features of EcoSport, Emergency Assistance, which could have not been tested in any other manner, was tested, and it worked like a charm. Thanks to this feature, the ambulance arrived on the spot with medical help within a matter of just 5 minutes. So how did this feature came to the rescue of those who were inside this EcoSport? With the help of SYNC (another new feature of the EcoSport), you can connect your smartphone to the car, and can operate it with voice commands. You can order to play songs, make calls, take calls, and similar things.
In an event of accident, when a airbag is deployed, or emergency fuel pump is shut off, SYNC Emergency Assistance is activated. This feature will automatically call the emergency operators, using the connected smartphone and give the location of accident. This very same feature, which is offered free of cost with EcoSport, was in action today, and it came out as a hero. You can read more information on the Emergency Assistance in the media release or the image below.

Hope this was not on the lines of a dummy fire drill we are used to in our offices.

Re: Ford EcoSport revealed with PICTURES : Inside & Out!

If the news is indeed true that Diesel will not be available in the Titanium and higher variants, then I don't think Ford is doing anything wrong here. Whatever profits they want to earn, they can earn so by selling the Ambiente and Trend Diesel variants which anyways will sell like hot cakes if priced sensibly.
This is exactly opposite of what Renault did to Duster Petrol which again I feel nothing wrong from their end. dCi is the flagship product from Renault winning several awards and hence Renault decided to give priority to it over the petrol variant.
Similarly, Ecoboost is the flagship product for Ford winning Engine of the Year and several other awards. It's but obvious Ford would like to market it over its not-so-new diesel engine.
I guess the old times are coming back . No offense to DieselHeads

It will be a shame if the TDCi is not available in Titanium or Titanium +.

Btw, that review put up by Motoroids was great with awesome pictures and very good detail.

Ah,Thats a shame. A year down the line im sure they'll add this along with a few more features.

Still nothing to whine about as the overall package is still quite incredible.

I'd pick the 1.5 DCT TITANIUM. A SUV feel, yet compact enough to squeeze through traffic, high tech autobox perfect for the congested metros, decent FE, loaded with features....not too shabby i say

A good way to compare the three visually.

I had seen the pics of Trax before this, but something I had not noticed is the fact that the Trax looks like a proper jacked up Hatchback, especially from the side profile and the rear.
In comparison, the EcoSport and the Duster seem much more SUV'ish in their proportions.

The trax is more like a ritz blown up in front and stamped with a Chevy badge. The rear is completely different though.

If launched in India, should be a strong competitor

Re: Ford EcoSport revealed with PICTURES : Inside & Out!

Nice video. I found the Chevy the best-looking of the lot, both on the exterior and the interior. It also seemed to be the fastest from zero start.

  • In India, the Ford EcoSport will be available in an exciting rainbow of seven colours – Mars Red, Kinetic Blue, Sea Grey, Moondust Silver, Panther Black, Diamond White, and Chill.
  • In India, the Ford EcoSport with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine achieves 18.9 km/L and emits 126 g/km of carbon dioxide
  • The TDCi engine(1.5 Diesel) delivers a class-leading fuel economy of 22.7 km/L and carbon dioxide emissions of 117 g/km1.
  • With a stick shift, the 1.5-litre Ti-VCT engine returns 15.8 km/L and carbon dioxide emissions of 150 g/km. With the PowerShift automatic, the petrol engine returns 15.6 km/L and carbon dioxide emissions of 151 g/km

So the Petrol 1.0 is almost as low on CO2 as the 1.5 Diesel.
The Yellow will come, but later on sometime....

Re: Ford EcoSport revealed with PICTURES : Inside & Out!

I do not know whether this is off topic, but could not resist posting a link for your perusal:

http://editorial.autos.msn.com/blogs...0-198b17e15543

This refers to crash testing data of small SUVs in USA, where only Mitsubishi & Subaru could earn 'acceptable' & 'good' ratings on the small overlap test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, & many small SUVs & crossovers did poor job in protecting occupants in offset frontal crashes in the tests conducted by these agencies.

Now my question, whether it is just to pay lacs for these wannabes or I am better or having premium hatches like the Swift, i20, Polo or sedans like the Vento, City, Rapid, Verna as compared to these. IMO only the ground clearance & maybe better luggage space are the redeeming pluses for these SUVs as compared to these cars, which can easily trump these on other parameters.

Mods, I hope we do not need a new thread for this post.

Re: Ford EcoSport revealed with PICTURES : Inside & Out!

Kind of relevant to this discussion:

http://www.autoblog.com/2013/05/16/f...boost-defects/

Now this doesn't affect us here in India, but interesting to note.

Also, while I'm looking forward to the launch of this vehicle, the 1.5 D is the most interesting variant and doesn't seem to be covered/reviewed/discussed in detail anywhere. Has anyone noticed any new info on the 1.5 D?

Sorry for going offtopic. I have not been a close follower of this thread and was kind of surprised to know that the eco-sport has not yet been launched. This is because, I saw one orange eco-sport with permanent AP registration at Hyderabad. Is it possible that someone got hold of it as a pre-launch offer? Pls enlighten me.
