Knowing Mahindra, i guess Quanto will continue to be sold in Rural markets. With the Chassis based construction and rugged underpinnings it sure will carve a loyal market for itself in Rural and Semi-Urban markets.

Anyways Quanto is not talented and polished enough to compete with its modern competition. It must have been a makeshift arrangement till the S101 arrives.

Providing seating for two in the front row in S-101 reminds me of the Force Tempo Trax, which is used in rural areas as a people-mover. Going by the looks, certainly seems to be carried over from the XUV5OO, looks much decent now. The rear is toned much better. It seems Mahindra will be also developing S-102 variant as well which will have an 8-seater option and will be a more luxurious version.

With SsangYong and Chevrolet expected to bring their mini-SUV’s in the market, it seems India will be flooded with compact SUV’s soon. Ecosport and Duster, watchout!

Looking at the front and rear, I just hope it is not going be a car which starts off looking like an Ecosport clone and when we get to the rear, it becomes Ritz like. That would be really ugly

Indian car & utility vehicle major, Mahindra &Mahindra has been testing a compact SUV over the past few months. The compact SUV, code-named the S101, is said to be a product that will sit under the Quanto, in terms of price and positioning. Team-BHP's rendering artist, AntlerRoad, has put together this speculative render of the Mahindra S101, based on the various spyshots of the SUV on the interweb.



The Mahindra S101 compact SUV is expected to compete with B-segment hatchbacks in terms of pricing to signify its value proposition as a butch yet compact alternative. A high ground clearance and seating capacity for 6 adults could be the other highlights of the S101. A unique front seat construction, with the gear shifter located on the dashboard will be instrumental in the S101 being able to accommodate 6 adults, in a 3+3 layout.

This seating layout will give Mahindra designers the leeway to package the compact SUV in a sub-4 meter form factor. On a side note, a similar seating layout will also be seen on the upcoming Datsun GO hatchback, a budget car that will be launched in early 2014. The S101 could take the monocoque route, a-la-XUV500, as Mahindra's second SUV to adopt such a body construction.

As the Quanto's body-on-ladder frame has resulted in the compact SUV tipping the weighing scale at a portly 1,640 kilograms, the monocoque construction for the S101 is expected to boost fuel economy and performance while cutting tail pipe emissions. Engine options on the S101 could include the 1.5 liter-3 cylinder turbo diesel engine from the Quanto and a motor from the new crop of small capacity petrol engines that Mahindra is jointly developing with its South Korean acquisition Ssangyong.

Rumours suggest that the 1.5 liter twin turbo diesel engine on the Mahindra S101 will be mounted transversely (east-west layout), making for a front wheel drive layout. Apart from boosting fuel economy, such a layout will also reduce weight. A 2014 launch time line is likely for the Mahindra S101 compact SUV, with a sub-5 lakh rupee price tag for the base variant.

Very reason being it starts with "rendering", someone piles it up further, finally ends up in a fight b/w 2 or 3 brands. So, this being M&M, I am pretty sure, the other side will TML

Thanks for the frequent and on the time news JayPrashanth. And thanks to AntlerRoad as well. Now from the render, the dual section bumper is so much. Why can't you make a render of the contour in the headlamp area? Looks to me like they will surely do the headlamp in the contour area. Have also provided an image for reference. Can we also get a render of the rear of the S101?

So here it is, the S101. The looks defenitely take inspirations from XUV, It would get the 3 Cylinder 1 Litre Mhawk engine. I hope that engine comes out well and that it be priced much below the EcoSport.

Thank you for your feedback. This render has been based on scoops/spyshots. The excellent mod team will take care of the brand battles. The thread's purpose is to kick start a healthy discussion and for outlining what "you, the car buyer" want from the product. :-)
