So many people whom I've interacted with having their parents living with them end up buying a 7 seater MUV like the xylo, the ertiga or the innova simply because when there's a need for an extra seat beyond the 5 seats avalable in a hatch/sedan, it isn't there. So if you see this from the perspective of the typical Indian joint family- 2 grandparents, 2 parents and 1 or 2 kids, a 6 seater "small" car/SUV would make the most sense.
Although from the safety concepts of today, I don't quite know how ok it is to have a kid sit upfront in between the driver and co-passenger.

Now that is one good looking compact SUV!
I wonder if M&M would bring that to India, since it might cannibalize the sales of it's own compact vehicles. Or maybe they will follow Maruti's mantra- If you don't cannibalize your own sales, someone else will!

Seriously.

Japs have gone towards practicality and quality way bit too much i feel. Toyota styling is seriously questionable and Honda designs are decent but nothing extraordinary

And suzuki only churns out square soap boxes

Koreans started offering more for less price to beat the competition in countries like USA and EU. Sadly the hyundai charges a premium in India

Atleast M&M seems to be bringing designs from its Korean acquisition unlike Tata who own JLR and earning profits but have no idea why Indian market is not liking their own designs

Re: Scoop Pic! Mahindra's S101 Mini-SUV spotted

Looks to be quite good and proportioned. Let see how much the vehicle is capable of.
There should not be much of bodyroll, unlike the Quanto, else this will also be a flop show from Mahindra.
They should do some changes to the dashboard, the ones in Xylo, Scorpio, Quanto looks dated.

M&M is on roll!!
Looks proportionate unlike typical M&M's. It does look as big/small as Ritz?

This is Korendo in concept version which was showcased way back in 2008!
M&M is gearing up to launch this here in India.

I remember 2007 Chevrolet Trax Concept and though they had 3 different designs to choose for the final production car, which they selected 'Beat' design, looking at the current market trend and demand for compact SUV's, Chevy should revisit Trax concept.

Re: Scoop Pic! Mahindra's S101 Mini-SUV spotted

Spotted the same test mule on Pondicherry-Tindivanam highway last evening.

Couldn't take a pic as i was on the opposite road. I guess the size of the vehicle(when all body panels are fitted) would be similar to the ecosport.

ACI has got an in-depth look at the upcoming mini-SUV.Here's the link http://www.autocarindia.com/News/343...er-look.aspx/0
As per their rendering it looks similar to the XUV5OO.It also mentions that there will be a turbo-petrol option.
Looks like everyone is targeting the Ecosport with similar strategies.

Quiet impressive with the Mahindra styling ! (I still wonder what these guys were smoking while designing Xylo). Looking at the style and spec this mini beast has the potential to take the market by storm !

Found this through a link on facebook. Sure looks like a competitor for EcoSport and Duster

Re: Scoop Pic! Mahindra's S101 Mini-SUV spotted

The Mahindra S101 has been caught testing again.
Question is, is this S101 carrying Mahindra’s all new small petrol/diesel engine?

Exactly this was what i thought i looked at this picture. I am really shocked at this compact SUV trend, there is nothing SUV about this vehicle or even Ecosport etc.

If this classifies as a SUV, add some more ground clearance(just a inch or two!) to cars like i10 and Wagon R and there you have another new segment- Budget Compact SUVs. And even Tata has a great opportunity to go with the wave, they should consider slightly modifying and repositioning the Nano as world's most affordable SUV. :(

Re: Scoop Pic! Mahindra's S101 Mini-SUV spotted

Is it only me or everyone here agrees that the front styling especialy the shape of the headlights looks very similar to the EcoSport? I hope this is a dummy front else I wont be surprised if Ford takes M&M to the court for copying the design!

Re: Scoop Pic! Mahindra's S101 Mini-SUV spotted

I got a news from one of my sources that Mahindra is working on this car to compete with Ecosport mainly. They will be taking ESport head on with this car. The engine options they are considering are 1.2 Liter Petrol engine and 1.5 Liter diesel engine. They are targeting a price tag of Rs 5 Lac. Lets see how it goes. The vehicle is planned for second half of 2014.

Come on Mahindra, give your best. Make a solid car out of this, you will get the success for sure

Where does that leave the Quanto? Lots of criss-crossing happening in this segment. Looks like all it matters is to get one product right and the rest would follow!

From whatever I can see, the front end looks like some Ecosport threw up on it.
