This was bound to happen, as the price of Amaze would have overlapped with that of Jazz, further reducing the customers for this hatchback in this sedan-obsessed nation (when it comes to 5 seaters).

Considering that Amaze is a sedan and Jazz is a hatchback with same length, Jazz definitely offers more space.

I hope Honda launches an estate version of Amaze to replace the Jazz.

Aren't we going too unrealistic? Estate version of Amaze would be a 'large' sub-4m hatchback! What next? A sub-4m limousine perhaps? :D

^ Guys, production of the Jazz is being "temporarily" stopped until a "relaunch" next year. It is not going to be discontinued. A new Jazz will be out next year.

Expanding a product portfolio, always remains a big dream for a company/business organization but shrinking it does raises a questions on the expectations from the big-H(Honda).

Honda is really getting rid of great products in India, i.e CIVIC, Jazz.
Maybe a strategy to create vacuum till their re-introduction after an year, IMHO.

Great products but not great in the current market. Civic was already under terrible pressure, jazz was moving minimally. The launch of amaze would have killed what was left of jazz sales.
A right step forward

If this is true its very sad news indeed. Having said that, we have booked a Jazz last week and hope to get the delivery by the end of this week. Registration is in process and should come through by tomorrow. We hope to keep this car for a long time. I checked with our dealer again after reading these posts but Honda has not informed them about it officially. Finally our dream of owning a Honda comes true!

I don't think it's a case of bad pricing considering the timing of the news. The Jazz was initially a very expensive hatchback and then went on to become affordable and competitive - but it never lost its strength during it's journey. The engine, space and looks are still, even as of today, quite capable of challenging the top selling hatchbacks in this country.

Like someone said earlier, Honda might pull the plug on this one as of now only because they are positioning the Amaze in the Jazz territory. The Jazz will make a comeback with a model change in 2014, after the solid success of the Amaze starts settling in that is!

It was a case of not being able to meet the demand more than anything else. Honda was really struggling to to make room for Amaze & the Brio on their lines, which are really the ones they are focusing on. So the whole exercise was to trim the product portfolio to make more room more than anything else. That is actually what i've been reading. The Jazz had a huge waiting list but they couldn't deliver enough.
I think Honda would have kept their portfolio intact if they had the capacity.

Isnt Accord the flagship model?
City is more like the bread and butter model:D

Well its a shame nevertheless , its a great little car with a lot of potential and i can only hope that its return in 2014 is going to be much more successful than its been so far. I think the Jazz developed a strong fan following , which is great for Honda but unfortunately as a company they have been unable to capitalize on that.

Disheartening news indeed. A good car killed by bad pricing. If only Honda had priced it correctly at launch it would in all likelihood been a runaway success. Sad news for potential buyers and more so for owners.

Hope Honda is able to reposition new Jazz with a diesel heart and at a correct price point.

I believe the looks could be one of the reasons other than the initial pricing. It just doesnt have the regular long hood car like appearance compared to an i20 or something.

For any prospective car buyer, the first point of contact with the car company is the dealer. Agreed that the Jazz is a great all round product. But, please note, from the customer view-point, the word all-round also applies to the way the dealer deals with the customer. In any high value purchase, customers look for the product+service. In this case, the product was quite good, but the service in terms of dealership experience leaves a lot to be desired.

I had the same experience with a Honda dealer. This was even before the price cut. I was on the verge of walking into a Honda dealership, and book the Jazz without even TDing it merely based on reviews on Team BHP and having driven my close colleague's Jazz. But the moment I walked into the dealership and let them know that I am interested in the JAzz, I was given a not-so-interested look by the sales lady at the desk. Moreover the attitude of the sales persons completely put me off. They did not care to talk to me about the car nor its features. Heck, I was not even given a price-list. I walked off to the nearest Hyundai showroom and booked the second car in my list, the i20. The dealership experience at Hyundai was awesome, to say the least.

Such an attitude does not do good for any company. Who in this world would get treated badly by the Company point of conatct and still want to plonk their hard earned money, even though they may have a great product line-up. Surely, I wouldnt. At the end of the day, I am not the loser, Honda is/was. They finally paid the price. Only if the dealership attitude changes, will any of the future products sell well. And this is a fact. Hope Honda and fellow TBHPians agree too!!

So true! One of the reasons that Fiat kept the Palio in production, even after the Punto's launch, is to portray stability & consistency in the mind of the consumer.

Doesn't make a difference; an "overpriced" tag is hard to shake off. Look at the new Fiesta. At some dealerships, its available for a whopping 1.5 lakhs discount (thus, making the price quite reasonable). Problem is, no new car buyers are giving it a second look.

I think this demand thing is absolute rubbish. The Amaze is entering a high-volume category. The Jazz' 200 - 300 monthly units wouldn't make any difference to so-called capacity constraints.

This is so very true! My brother and I walked into the showroom with a cheque in hand (and this was the second visit!) to book the Jazz and when we ask for a test drive, we get a shocker of a reply!! "saar test drive car alli petrol illa!" (there is no petrol in the test drive car!) Folks there were hardly talking about the Jazz and were trying their might to convince us to go for the City instead!!

The failure of the Honda Jazz reminds me of what happened to the Ford Fusion. Back in the day, you could have a Fusion for 7lacs on road. It was powerful, reliable, well built, had plenty of room, very good to drive and had a diesel option. Not very good looking though but it had its small customer base, just like the Jazz. Off course, the other thing going against it was Ford. The market had simply not matured to accept a giant hatchback like the Fusion. It was a little odd ball of a car and I can only say the same for Jazz. Even if the Jazz had a diesel, i doubt if it would have clicked. Though I like the Jazz, 99% don't and its not for just having a petrol engine. Its not a very like-able hatch design for most folk. The Jazz is one giant car. Has acres of space and beats most cars for practicality. The Ford was not expensive to me but the Jazz was priced wrong from the start which is probably where it all ended. I don't recall Honda marketing it well enough too. However, just like all the Fusion owners who will never ever sell their rides, the same will apply for all the Honda Jazz owners. Nobody will sell it. It is so brilliant.
