Oops! My bad for not reading the suggestion in the context you meant it.
I agree with your suggestion, it is the correct thing to do.

IMO, title should only convey the facts and not mislead anyone going over the forum threads.
Agreed! Please see previous response.

I hope someone with inside knowledge clarifies on this soon enough. I did read reports elsewhere that the Estilo was indeed stopped, but I'm not so sure of it now. I hope the Estilo isn't produced in 2014 at least, and makes way for the production version of the A-Wind.

Re: Maruti to discontinue Estilo, A-star EDIT: Estilo axed

After the rousing response to the Celerio, Maruti declares end of the road for A-Star.

Celerio now replaces the already discontinued Estilo and now the A * too.

Re: Maruti to discontinue Estilo, A-star EDIT: Estilo axed

Celerio will now officially replace the Estillo and the A-star.

Infact, Celerio was the name by which A-star was getting exported to Saudi, back in 2010, as in the pics shared by ariesonu in this thread, Ex-ports thread.

Re: Maruti to discontinue Estilo, A-star EDIT: Estilo axed

This means Maruti Suzuki have done something they've never done before - discontinue three different hatchbacks (A-Star, Estilo and the venerable M800) in the space of one month or so. They can also add the Alto k10 to the list, and replace it with a newer Alto1000 based on the Alto800's chassis (with airbags and ABS as standard), along with fatter tyres on 13" wheels and new front & rear bumpers.

A leaner and meaner product range should free up capacity & marketing resources and help consolidate their leadership position in the market.

re: Maruti to discontinue Estilo & A-Star EDIT: RIP, both

RSR, not sure of the genuineness of the news, but it was said somewhere that Maruti would not get a K10 replacement. Can't see Maruti's angle, as the A- star and K10 seemed to be Suzuki's only offerings in Latin America but I'm not sure.

re: Maruti to discontinue Estilo & A-Star EDIT: RIP, both

If it's accurate, then it would be a disappointment for those who wanted an affordable pocket rocket, amolbh.

I think the Alto800 constitutes the vast majority of the Alto's huge monthly sales numbers now. Other than the engine output and power-to-weight ratio, the 800cc Alto is generally better than the k10 in many aspects. It also offers a driver's airbag on two variants, which is absent on the k10. An Alto1000 with airbags and ABS will be a pocket rocket that competes against the upcoming Datsun Go, which is expected to have very good performance with a 1.2 lit. engine under the hood.

Maybe Maruti want to keep their hatchback range trim and not confuse the customer. The positioning was

M800 - Alto800 - Alto k10 - Estilo - Wagon R (including Stingray) - A-Star - Celerio - Ritz - Swift

Soon it may become a lean 'n' mean line-up of

Alto800 - Wagon R - Celerio - Ritz - Swift

with every Maruti hatchback in the top 10 in monthly sales. Only the Ritz would find it very difficult to get into the top 10 every month, as people don't seem to like its rear looks despite being a capable, practical, value-for-money all-rounder with fine engines (petrol and diesel).

An Alto1000 with safety features would slot in perfectly between the Alto800 and Wagon R in such a line-up and take the fight to the Datsun Go (and a possible 1.0/1.1 lit. Eon).

Do not forget Maruti is working on 'their' latest AMT technology in all the models including DZire. It would churn out volumes from this newly found 'variant' and keep this a major differentiator from their nearest competition.

Cheers!

re: Maruti to discontinue Estilo & A-Star EDIT: RIP, both

An Ode to A Star

You were at first a concept
At the 2008 Auto Expo

You looked so Sharp
Cut like a knife

Could this be the new Zen?
With bated breath we waited for a while

Yet when you were first produced
With your gaping maw

We all went, ewwww....
That looks like a frog!

The road tests of the day
Did not help you any

You were better to drive than an i10
Yet worse is so other many

Aspects which the car buyer wants
Criticized for your lack of space
That was a constant taunt

Yet you solidered on
With a few hundred units a month

As your cheap and boxy cousins
Took the spotlight in front

And then one day
You got an Automatic

You were the most affordable
Way of relaxing in traffic

And yet they ignored you
They still do

In favour of Swift's, wagonR's and Celerio's
You were written off too soon

And yet those who knew
Who gave you a home

Know your true worth
That you're a star who shone

As something different from the herd
A different set of priorities

You gave us handling, steering feel
And good Maruti build quality

They should have given you a new name
Should have called you ZEN

For you are his true successor
Not that Estilo has-been

But alas, you fade away
Replaced by a more practical other

But you will never be forgotten
You're a star, my brother

I actually liked the a* . I think maruti should bring back the alto vxi with f10d motor . It had dual airbags in the export versions . Also it had rear defogger and wash wipe . Give it 13 inch alloys too and electric orvms . Tune the f10d for bs4 . Its still better than the k10 of the wagon r thats a three pot setup . A four pot setup is any day better . P.s. I owned an alto lxi from 2004 to 2013 .

re: Maruti to discontinue Estilo & A-Star EDIT: RIP, both

Maruti's are growing taller and lighter by the day.
Probably, they would one day come with a double decker car, or even a car which you can go standing.

Maruti's next swift weight (Kerb) = Fiat engine + Incremental weight delta
(If somebody still remembers these equations)

One day, they would all end up like this

Re: Maruti to discontinue Estilo & A-Star EDIT: RIP, both

Was the estilo ever launched as a diesel?
I dont remember it ever having a diesel engine, but I saw this on OLX, and was clueless.

It is a listing error, in the same ad under the Fuel field it says Petrol.

Edit it also says 3 "onar". Avoid!

Isn't Celerio really an A-star on a new shell ? I could sense some hidden similarities between both. I may be wrong though !

The A-Star is essentially the refreshed Alto and Maruti decided to sell both the old and new generation models at the same time together. And yes the Celerio is based on the same shell

The Zen Estilo on the other hand is the Suzuki MR Wagon
