Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Maruti Suzuki commits to building electric cars - Looks to Suzuki- Toyota partnership which is in the final phase of agreement. Banks on Hybrids as an intermediate phase between the current and Full EV implementation.

Chairman cites :
Quote:
"work in progress," eyes tech from parent's partnership with Toyota
Quote:
Electric cars will come. We will make electric cars. I can't give you a date just now, because it's all very much a work in progress
Quote:
the outlines of an agreement signed by parent Suzuki Motor with Japanese compatriot Toyota Motor include hybrid and electric technologies.

"I believe the talks in Japan are still going on," he said. "What happens at these talks 6,000km away from here we don't know, but Toyota certainly has a lot of electric technology."
Quote:
Suzuki will give their technology if we start making electric vehicles.

Hopefully by the time we do that, Suzuki and Toyota will come to some kind of settlement. Suzuki will get the technology [from Toyota] -- and because this company is a Suzuki company, that [technology] automatically comes here
Quote:
electric cars cannot grab 100% of sales overnight from virtually no presence in the country right now.
"Other cars will continue to sell"
Quote:
During that period, it would be better to sell as many hybrids as possible to reduce fuel consumption and [pollution]
Quote:
A hybrid car as compared to a conventional car is a superior product, because it gives better fuel consumption and mileage [and] less pollution

No Plans for Petrol/AT's for Vitara Brezza or S-Cross in the whole of 2018?

Is there something that only MSIL knows which they are not telling us? Surely they would have done some sort of research and deduced that these won't sell enough to not release. I don't see any other reason they won't release them.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

I wonder how Maruti is adjusting its plans for its diesel engines, given the upcoming tectonic shift thanks to BS 6. Come June 2020, no new BS 4 vehicle can be registered in the country (except Delhi, where BS 6 cometh this April 2018).
The fun part with BS 6 requirements is that the emission norms are the same for Petrol and Diesel engines and for BS 6-grade Diesel engines to be brought to the same emission levels as their Petrol cousins, there are components such as a DPF (some kind of a particulate filter) and more which will be needed.
The result?
I have seen news reports quoting the Auto Industry stating that to manufacture a 1.5L BS 6 Diesel will be 1 lac costlier compared to before, to manufacture a 2.2L BS 6 diesel engine will cost 1.5-2 lacs more and so on.
The Indian budget car buyer (the typical Maruti customer) will start to avoid higher-priced lower-end cars (with 1.5 to 2 L engines). Maruti should be planning to lower its planned Diesel-engine volumes.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Maruti Suzuki to launch cars with 6-speed gearbox this year, will effectively make its cars even more driver-centric.

The first six-speed transmission car under this programme will likely be the Swift hatchback.

Quote:
A six-speed transmission, which is codenamed MF30, will substantially boost the overall driving performance of the car.
Quote:
This will not be the first time that Maruti Suzuki is using a six-speed gearbox. It had used this technology in the previous generation S-Cross, a premium cross-over with a 1.6 litre diesel engine
Quote:
Maruti is looking to shore up the use of six-speed transmissions in a gradual way. Starting with 50,000 units in the first year the demand is projected to go to 400,000 units per year by 2020

6MT transmission news is true. I had posted about this few months back here.

Maruti was testing this gearbox in their new 1.5 L diesel engine (Ciaz). I doubt if Swift would be the first car to get this, very unlikely.

Driver-centric? I am skeptical about that. But, fuel efficiency improvement might be one of the strong reasons for the extra cog.

Report from SA indicate the follow plans from Suzuki.

2. Celerio face-lift - Q2 2018

3. Vitara face-lift - Q4 2018 (International market)

New model introductions set for 2018 include the Swift in the second quarter, a Ciaz and Celerio facelift, also in the second quarter, and a Vitara facelift in the fourth quarter.

I thought this thread was about Maruti's plans. Don't see the relevance of the update about Vitara face-lift on this thread as there is new Vitara in the Indian market under Maruti. I hope you are not confusing Vitara Brezza with the international Vitara.

International Vitara face-lift will be the speculated upcoming Vitara for the Indian market - 2019 or beyond. That is the relevance and is no way connected to the Vitara Brezza.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Maruti plans new SUV's in its portfolio. One above and another below Vitara Brezza.

1. The first SUV will rival Hyundai's Creta , launching in 2019. Likely to be the UPDATED Global VITARA.

Quote:
This will open up a market of around 15,000-20,000 per month to the company.Renault Duster, Renault Captur, Mahindra Scorpio, Nissan Terrano, Tata Safari and the Honda BR-V are part of this segment.
The crowded segment will be joined by new comers like Kia, Fiat-owned Jeep, Toyota, Tata Motors, MG Motor, Volkswagen and Skoda .

2. Could look at a vehicle of a smaller dimension that could become a new entry model SUV for its brand.

Maruti may upgrade Omni, Eeco to meet crash test norms before the October 2019 deadline.

Quote:
Maruti is working on the emission and safety norms for Eeco and Omni. Both models account for 10% of Maruti’s total monthly domestic volumes and hence is crucial to its plans going forward.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

When we think the Vitara will be the next SUV for India, Suzuki hints at a new Global SUV being developed that would arrive in 2020.

Also the sighting of the un-camouflaged Vitara seen testing in India, all the more supports the speculations of a NEW SUV is in works. Likely to have a new power train including the optional Full - Hybrid as seen in the new Gen Swift and the current range of Suzuki products.

Quote:
Suzuki has hinted an SUV coupe is on the list of 20 new vehicles it plans to roll out around the globe by 2020.
Quote:
new Suzuki SUV derivative such as a coupe could be based on the compact Vitara.

Quote:
of the 13 new vehicles still to come as part of the ‘Suzuki Next 100’ mid-term business plan, some of which will be Japanese domestic and some for global markets such as India, where it is the sales leader.
