Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Maruti's S cross to have 2 diesel options - 1.3 and 1.6 l. No Petrol variant?

Maruti Ciaz Petrol production started at Gurgaon factory .

On a time when Diesel is becoming costlier and Maruti cancelling the Diesel engine expansion plan, I don't think they will not launch a Petrol version. At least to have a news that the pricing starts at a lower price point, they need one Petrol version.

Since its a big car, I dont think the increasing diesel prices will make people stay away from diesel engines due to the FE factor. This effect of people starting to prefer petrols is significant in the small car and entry level sedan segments. But for bigger cars, I would prefer an S-Cross diesel with a mixed average of ~16kmpl compared to a petrol with an assumed average of 11-12kmpl. Makes a difference on the highways too. My petrol SX4 gives at best 14-15 whereas the diesel can easily give 19-20 and even more if driven sedately. Hence I assume the same with the S-Cross too.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Engines to run Maruti S Cross are a 1.6 litre engine (possibly Peugeot DV6 HDi engine with Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT)) producing 110 hp maximum power and a 1.3 litre MultiJet oil burner in 90 HP tune

Maruti's Ciaz, is also believed to share same diesel engine options from S Cross crossover mentioned above. Petrol trim will host 1.4 litre K Series engine doing duty in maruti Ertiga, producing 95 PS max. power and 130 Nm peak torque.

This diesel also has the benefit of high toque at Low rpm. This is especially needed in hills. Thought the Multijet 1.6 is said to have a turbo lag, it will be much better to drive with approx 32 KGM of torque than a 1.6 petrol with approx 15 kgm.

32 kgm is almost 313 Nm of torque. Wow.
This engine will be a hoot to drive but I hope the gearing is not messed up and the engine shouldn't be detuned heavily for FE concern.

Would spoil the fun factor.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

The S cross is the first case of joint development MSI and SMC engineers and therefore the rate of royalty will be lower then the normal rate of quality based on the efforts which are being jointly .

Speculated the S cross to come only in the diesel avatar, the joint development in the case of S cross could be the engineering of the new powertrain of 1.3 DDIS to the variant and also may be a New 1.6 diesel engine (Peugeot DV6 1.6-liter HDi )

I don't think the S-Cross was co-developed by Suzuki and Maruti. It is a global product designed by Suzuki.

They may be referring to the XA-Alpha whose production details / spy pics are yet to surface.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Suzuki displays the S cross at the Moscow auto show as the ‘New SX4′, whereas the older car is rebadged as the ‘SX4 Classic’.

The crossover measures 4,300 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, 1,575 mm in height and 2,600 mm in wheelbase. The car is shod with 16- or 17-inch wheels depending on the variant. The turning radius is rated at 5.2 meters. Top-end variants are equipped with ABS, ESP, Brake Assist and 7 airbags.

The CUV will be avilable in a total of 10 variants in Russia, and is priced between 749,000 Rubles to 1.099 million Rubles (INR 12.54 lakhs to INR 18.4 lakhs). The 1.6 l petrol is the only engine option in Russian market.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Is it the XA- Alpha shown at the left corner of the first pic? Is it still at the same stage of development as in the Delhi Auto Expo 2014?

Not much seen here, but i think there are more details in this prototype.

Nope, it is the IV-4 concept that Suzuki displayed earlier internationally. Not sure whether there is any connection between XA-Alpha and IV-4.

IV-4 is a much bigger car and is supposed to replace Grand Vitara. No chance that Maruti Suzuki will bring a sub-4m version of it as XA-Alpha production version.
