Re: Ethanol blending to be made mandatory

Apparently, the additional Rs 2/l excise is applicable on all all unblended fuel including diesels. I wasn't even aware that diesel was blended.

Re: Ethanol blending to be made mandatory

Layman question

How to identify blended and non-blended fuel on any petrol pump? Will all power/speed etc premium variants always be non-blended?

Side question:- Which petrol type will be suitable for the 2.0 TSI engine in long run?

Re: Ethanol blending to be made mandatory

Can we blend methanol with petrol? Reason why I'm asking this is that Indian govt is mulling over setup of several coal to methanol projects in India. Announcement from yesterday's budget:

Re: Ethanol blending to be made mandatory

India would soon have cars with flexi engines running on either 100% ethanol or 100% petrol.

Though such cars would have hybrid arrangements to run on electric as well.

Govt. says:
Quote:
Hyundai, Suzuki and Toyoto have promised me to launch their products in the market as soon as possible. Cars with flexi engines will be on the roads in the next six months,
Quote:
Coal is a costly fuel and not commercially-viable. Although ethanol can be produced in abundance, especially in Eastern India with rice bran, green hydrogen would be most efficient,
The government was in a bid to promote operation of construction equipment with bio- CNG and bio-LNG. It was looking forward to fast-track the use of alternative fuel, in transportation in view of the emerging energy crisis, especially in the wake of the Ukraine-Russia war.

All Maruti Suzuki Cars Will Be E20 Fuel Compliant Before April 2023. Goes Hybrid on the path to Electrification.

Maruti Suzuki is on track to launch E20 material compliant vehicles by 2023. Adding to it, the company will also launch cars with strong hybrid powertrain in the near future.

On the powertrain technology, the company’s electrification strategy is to follow the route of introducing mild hybrids, then strong hybrids and EVs.

Many petrol vehicles affected due to this 10% Ethanol mixed in petrol especially in petrol filled from IOCL Guwahati. Now who will bear the cost of repair?

Jamkhandi to get India's first flex fuel station.

Quote:
Jamkhandi in Bagalkot district, nearly 500 km from Bengaluru, will get a ‘flex fuel’ station that will be India’s first, according to the company is setting it up.

The flex fuel station coming up at Bagalkot will provide bio CNG, ethanol-blended gasoline and a charging facility for electric vehicles.

How come we have not come across this issue in Chennai/TN yet? Ethanol is blended to petrol here as well. Do we have any way of buying unblended petrol except going for 100 octame fuel?

Re: Ethanol blending to be made mandatory

^^ I think it is 10% across all fuels except 97/100 octane. Soon to reach 20%.

Problem could be any of these 1. Moisture/water containing ethanol from sources. 2. Petrol pumps not having leak proof sumps. If 2 is the reason we could have got same issues in TN as well.

Re: Ethanol blending to be made mandatory

One reason to start thinking about EV is to rise above the fuel mix anxiety.

Does anybody know if there are ways to adulterate / mix something with the electricity used for charging the EV?

I want to find an authentic source in reference IOCL XP 95 ethanol content if any.
There needs to be a public awareness website or something.

Re: Ethanol blending to be made mandatory

I think the fuel sold in TN currently is E10. My 2009 model Alto has not given any problems so far. I think it was designed for E10 even then. I am worried what will happen when we have E20.

I have a 2000 model Splendor, which has also not shown any problem so far. I am sure they would not have designed it for blended fuel back then.

Edit: May car's manual states it is good to go with ethanol blend no higher than 5%. It is running smoothly on 10% blend. But still I am worried.

Re: Ethanol blending to be made mandatory

This popped up in my Twitter feed -

Ethanol blending to be made mandatory-img_20230323_104835_605.jpg

Source

So does it mean car makers will have time to be prepared until 2025 - 26 to be E20 compliant? Will they cover car models sold in the past too, or will we have to eventually scrap them after messing up the engine and fuel lines with E20?!
