Re: VW Polo 1.6L GT TDI coming EDIT: Now launched

Had been to 2 VW showrooms to book and TD the car, unfortunately haven't made the booking yet, but was part of the launch at VW whitefield

Drove the GT TSI though, what a brilliant hatch, it easily is the best hatch i've driven till date. The manager was ready to offer a small TD of the GT TDI but drove the Vento TDI instead, since the display car *might* just be sold to some customer.

The pricing on-road in bangalore is 9.91 lakhs, I have 20% NCB so both showrooms were ok with me taking insurance outside.

The Vento TDI was a cracker of an engine to drive, superb superb drivability and the turbo kick is gradual and progressive. The Polo will feel like a jet with this engine, mostly will get a TD by monday. This engine outclasses the 1.5TDCI in the Ecosport easily, except may be on refinement.

The GT TSI is 9.7L on road Bangalore.

Also, the Vento is exactly 2L more than the Polo GT TDI. With the Vento you get you get boot and more space at the back for 2L more. If you don't need the boot, this car is reasonable priced.
Seems like a fair price. This is the high-line trim correct? Although they are not calling it that?

Does the i20 have any features that the GTD lacks?

I think the Polo highline has 60:40 split. I had a 2011 model which had this, not sure if its been removed.

Ya. But both the GT doesnot have 60:40 split as it has a different set of interior to Polo highline. Personally have checked both.

Nope. No driver armrest dude. The i20 has a foldable armrest not the centre console type armrest.

The kerb weight is 1156 kgs, just 11kgs over the regular Polo Highline with 1.2 TDI engine. It should translate to much better performance than in the Vento i guess.

May be you want a hot looking hatch that smokes cars a segment higher without much damage to your pocket.

If the power and torque figures are high then it would be a hoot to drive.

You are correct, my budget is strictly about nine lakhs on road here in Guwahati. I wanted to get the ecoboost even though my running per month might exceed 1000 kms, just because it's so much fun to drive. I thought polo gt tdi will have hill hold etc, as the petrol sibling has it, but that dream is also shattered. In reality I would feel cheated to buy tdi gt as it's just a regular polo with 1.6 Vento engine and nothing else. I find tsi more value than this. Now that, ecosport has seen price rise, I think that dream is also going to be shattered.

I agree with you but see it this way like you could fool your friends as they would think it is the conventional Polo but only you know is a 1.6L TDI. Waiting for the specifications to go live. Want to see the power to weight ratio for this GT. This car with a Remap + improved brakes + improved suspension + subtle changes to exterior, this car is a Sleeper.

One thing I didn't understand is why VW have named it as 'GT' TDI. A normal 1.6 TDI would do the job. I know it would attract customers by still.
